Rumor: Kid Icarus making a comeback
Pit's feature role in Super Smash Bros. Brawl could be a precursor to the Kid Icarus franchise's triumphant resurrection, or at least IGN seems to think so. On their latest Nintendo Voice Chat podcast, Matt Casamassina and the gang discuss Reggie's recent comments about a holiday blockbuster to be announced at E3, and speculate that it could be the new Kid Icarus that they "know" is in the works.
Now, how Casassamassassassina and crew can be so absolutely sure that Kid Icarus is Wii-bound is beyond us. We'll personally apply a liberal amount of skeptical sauce to this story, although it's also worth mentioning that the IGN team actually hopes Nintendo's E3 reveal isn't the Kid Icarus game they magically already know about. We'll be content either way, thanks.

They always say this, maybe we will all be lucky and make it for the PS3 or 360.

?
Jhongerkong @ Mar 21st 2008 11:54AM
Yeah, and while we're at it, lets put GoW on the Wii, or Halo 3 on the GBC. [/sarcasm]
Farseer (GDI) @ Mar 21st 2008 4:19PM
I love it when the first comment is so full of fail that the first reply to it is simply a "?"
mr mobius @ Mar 21st 2008 5:10PM
And the Commodore 64 will get a Guitar Hero game!
Oh...wait...crap...
Chase @ Mar 21st 2008 4:38AM
Wait a second, this isn't an A Boy and His Blob remake.
*shouts at the devil*
Scooby Doo @ Mar 21st 2008 4:49AM
Actually, that was my first thought when I heard Reggie make the anouncement. It certainly makes me wax nostalgic being part of the "NES" generation.
I really wonder if they'll make it 3-D though. Although I'm used to Kid Icarus being a 2-D platformer, his bow makes me think they'll try something revolutionary and do a Metroid Prime on us. Considering how much I love the Prime series, I can't say that's a bad thing...as long as they do it right.
heyo007 @ Mar 21st 2008 4:57AM
A new Kid Icarus game would be great! Especially given his presence in Smash Bros.
Another game that I'm hoping gets released because of it's characters' exposure: Earthbound (or Mother).
I'll happily take Earthbound on VC, Mother 3 (translated by Nintendo), and any other chewy morsels that are Earthbound goodness.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Mar 21st 2008 5:33AM
Casassamassassassina = WIN
I'm still waiting for Casassamassassin's Creed. ;P

That Cassimassina fella is married to some woman from Nintendo PR so it could be based on relaxed pillow talk after they had some really great sex.
tcc3 @ Mar 21st 2008 8:28AM
Yes because I'm sure he frequently leaks things his wife says casually that could cost her her job.
Any thing for a scoop, right?
FSK405K @ Mar 21st 2008 6:07AM
The next great Nintendo game: Icarus DS.
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Mar 21st 2008 6:26AM
Yeah, didn't IGN Matt also tell us he had definitive proof of Halo DS, while his pants were engulfed by flames?
baby sea tuna @ Mar 21st 2008 8:38AM
I remember seeing video of that.
Markez @ Mar 21st 2008 11:52AM
You can check out his blog on IGN for the vids, dude.
zelderman @ Mar 21st 2008 1:36PM
Liar, Liar, Pants on fire... I see what you did there.
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Mar 21st 2008 3:41PM
You remember seeing a video? Oh, right, the re-skinned Goldeneye DS video.
And, yes, I opted for "pants on fire" rather than the more blunt "IGN Matt is full of shit."
Corbo @ Mar 21st 2008 8:22AM
Rumours of a Kid Icarus comeback have been floating around forever. I remember them being brought up around the launch of the Gamecube. His appearance in Smash Bros is probably a good sign that he hasn't been forgotten about but it's not proof.
baby sea tuna @ Mar 21st 2008 8:42AM
I know I'm going to catch shit for this but, um...Kid Icarus wasn't really that good of a game to begin with.
(point of reference: I've bought this game twice, once in '88 or so when it came out, and once again for the VC.)
Markez @ Mar 21st 2008 11:54AM
I bought it on the VC as well. Hard game, starting over and over again gets real old.
However I have such fond memories of having an eggplant stuck on your head.
Co @ Mar 21st 2008 8:56AM
lmao yeah because we all have a little upcoming Nintendo releases relaxed pillow talk after sex. STFU

New Mr. Game and Watch game = CONFIRMED!
SoulBlade @ Mar 21st 2008 10:04AM
If they do another Icarus, they're probably going to do things similar to Link's Crossbow Training and have it heavily dependent on the pointer. I'm not sure how I'll feel about that.
Yishai08 @ Mar 21st 2008 10:15AM
Matt doesn't generally comment on rumors he doesn't have a factual basis for. He's under embargo so he can't name a source but because the rumor is already out there he's suggesting it as fact. However, he's unable to go into detail at the moment.
Not to mention none of the four members of the Nintendo team refuted Matt's comments. It's something they know about but are under embargo.
Yishai08 @ Mar 21st 2008 10:15AM
also I want to add that Matt doesn't post on baseliss rumors on the site. If they are talking about a rumor they mean they have inside info that they are embargoed on.
Like the untraditional method of voice chat which won't be a head set that's coming from nintendo. They know about it, but it's posted as rumor.
Bucket @ Mar 21st 2008 10:58AM
So one game made 20 years ago = franchise??
*takes notes*
loof @ Mar 21st 2008 11:12AM
There was a sequel on the Gameboy as well.
Count Noobula @ Mar 21st 2008 11:06AM
Can I chalk this one up to "No shit Sherlock"?
Count Noobula @ Mar 21st 2008 11:09AM
It would be cool if they could make it a cross between the new Rygar, i.e. Huge bosses, cool looking stages set in Greek Mythology, and have it so that when you aim and fire your bow it takes the angle of RE4.
baby sea tuna @ Mar 21st 2008 12:00PM
Oh, so when you say 'Rygar' you mean 'God of War'. Gotcha.
Count Noobula @ Mar 21st 2008 1:41PM
No man, no, Rygar (on the PS2) came before God Of War. And the new one on the Wii has all the same levels, except a new 'funky' character and some new enemies.
I hate God of War.
Srayer @ Mar 21st 2008 2:23PM
I'll back you up on that, Count. Rygar on the PS2 and God of War have many similarities, but Rygar came first.
The first time I played GoW, I remember thinking that the gameplay was exactly like Rygar.
They're both good games, though.
Ghaleon @ Mar 21st 2008 11:11AM
Mother 3 first, dammit
Fernando Rocker @ Mar 21st 2008 11:30AM
I second that motion.
Fernando Rocker @ Mar 21st 2008 11:31AM
It would be nice if they make the new Kid Icarus with an over the shoulder camera, with controlos like Metroid Prime 3.
That would be awesome.
Synner @ Mar 21st 2008 11:35AM
Oh sweet Palutena yes!!
This would be awesome.

one of the best characters in brawl
Dannyboi68 @ Mar 21st 2008 12:41PM
Ohhhhh I called this back when that "Holiday Blockbuster announcement at E3" story was posted. I said Kid Icarus: The one that factor 5 is working on.:)
343 Guilty Fart @ Mar 21st 2008 12:58PM
Kid Icarus was the first video game I ever bought, and still have. I remember it took me months to figure out how to use the password system. The idea of turning off the game and being able to come back to where I had left off was waaay above my head back then.
Lewis @ Mar 21st 2008 1:52PM
Yesss, i thought i was the only one that called him that.
Demaar @ Mar 21st 2008 3:02PM
Whether he has another source or not I dunno, but I wouldn't go using Pitt's appearance in Brawl as evidence. We haven't seen an Ice Climbers sequel now, have we?
Jut @ Mar 21st 2008 3:05PM
Mmm. Chicken fingers... with *skeptical sauce*.
Mr Khan @ Mar 21st 2008 3:40PM
It's not totally baseless on Matt C's part, Nintendo themselves have been hinting at the revival of a long-dead franchise for some time, and at this point in the game its either Kid Icarus (because of all the rumors) or Punch-Out!! (because back in 06 they re-patented it for release in a "disc-based medium")
Ghostone @ Mar 21st 2008 7:36PM
2 years ago miyamoto gave an interview at the last E3 saying he started talks about a kid icarus game for the then up comming wii system.
i though his inclusion on brawl was to remind of (I never forgot) of a great game.
hopefully there willbe eggplant wizard wtf is an aegg plant wizard that is just crazy
NESv1 @ Mar 21st 2008 7:41PM
I think it's the next Zelda game. From what I know, they've been working on the next Zelda since before Twilight Princess came out. In fact the reason Zelda:TP was delayed and ported to Wii was that they couldn't get this new Zelda out in time for Wii launch and Nintendo demanded a Zelda for the Wii at launch.
I remember Shiggy being quoted saying "(Zelda:TP) will be the last Zelda as we know it." That probably means this new Zelda will not be in the style as Ocarina/Twlight. That doesn't mean we'll have Celda again. The sequel to Zelda:Windwaker was mutated into Phantom Hourglass.
Personally, I'm eager to see what they can do with the Zelda franchise when it's MEANT to be on the Wii, not with Wii controls slapped on a Gamecube Zelda.
sk8tbrdngpetey @ Mar 22nd 2008 1:03PM
you guys are thinking to hard. A game that would appeal to hardcore and casual gamers is of course going to be wii sports 2.
Think about it....
It will have been two years since the first. Online play. More sports
hvnlysoldr @ Apr 12th 2008 7:57PM
Just because Kid Icarus and Metroid were sister series working on the same engine for both their NES and GB games doesn't mean Retro Studios should make a Kid Icarus Prime game.
