'Steel' a proper glance at MGS4 PS3 bundle

That Famitsu scan failed to capture the true aesthetic of the gun-metal grey finish lathered atop Japan's limited edition Metal Gear Solid 4 PlayStation 3, so we're posting some proper porn here. Officially, the color is 'Hagane,' steel used for making Japanese blades and other tools. The bundle, which includes the 40GB console, a like-minded DualShock 3, and a special edition of MGS4, is scheduled to arrive June 12th for ¥51,800 ($520). A similar bundle has also been announced for the US market, though it will include an 80GB PS3, which we hereby dub the 'Pittsburgh.'

MGS4 Box is sweet! It will be the 1st Metal Gear Ive ever bought. The rest just never caught my attn. Hope this baby showcases some PS3 muscle. In other words, the power of........THE CELL!!!

It's easy. MSG4 will be a prequel to MSG6 which in turn would be a sequel to MSG2 while MSG1 is not related to any of them and nobody gives a shit about MSG3.

Grab the box set ("Essential Collection" or whatever they're calling it) and have MGS1-3. I'm sure that MGS4 will still be fun without all the plot references, but it will be better with them. I think its only $30.

Yup its $29.99 and has the first 3 console releases.... I figured I better play through all of them again before 4 comes out so I have my sneek down....

Everyone has their own taste and IMO the MGS series is the best ever. The story can get a little out there and be hard to follow but I love all of the games. With this new one having a FPS mode you can toggle into it should make it more accessible to a lot of people who have never played the series and prefer FPS to 3PS. I am intrigued by the MGS:Online component because the game really revolves around being sneaky and stealthy instead of kicking in the door and busting out the shotty. I just don't see most shooter fans getting into the online mode because of the pacing. That is unless it has been changed for faster online experience. I CANT WAIT!!!

MGS4, GT:5 and RE5 are my most anticipated games E-V-E-R... I was hoping RE5 would drop in 08 but I think its more like mid 2009

personally I don't like the grey. I love the white PS3, and the black PS3 is pretty snazzy as well, but this grey is kind of blah to me. I'm not dissapointed that I have a black 60GB.

Now if they were to release a glossy green one, THEN I'd be pissed.

If anyone gets this I'd easily trade my Sleek black for this. otherwise I'll be selling my PS3 and picking up this bundle. Any takers in the phoenix area who plan on getting it but want an 80 gb that is in black let me know. Just picked mine up in christmas, played through my copy of Uncharted, and thats about it...

I don't recall ever reading official confirmation that the 80GB bundle releasing in the US would have backwards compatibility; I think that's just been assumed. Does anyone know if the MGS4 Bundle PS3 has BC?

I don't recall seeing any confirmation that the US bundle would have the custom color. Sony likes teasing us with all of those wonderful colors for their hardware (read: you can get a PSP in pretty much any color in Japan, and good taste is no barrier to the color selections offered) but the US rarely, if ever, partakes of the sweet, sweet deliciousness that is the rainbow. To wit: People STILL ask me how I got a white PS2 (imported, natch).

That said, on behalf of the city of Pittsburgh, of which I am a proud resident and native, I whole-heartedly endorse the nickname and hope it makes it over here.

I don't know if you can consider it an "official" confirmation, but on the Playstation Blog announcement of the MGS4 bundle, one of the Sony people replied to a comment about backwards compatibility:

"Yes, similar to the Motorstorm bundle, the new MGS4 bundle features an 80GB PS3 with some PS2 backwards compatibility."

My concern is that, since the JPN bundle is merely the 40GB model and is STILL more than $500, that the same thing will happen here in the US: Sony will release the standard black glossy 80GB model w/ MGS4, but it won't have PS2 Backwards compat. Sony hasn't said one way or the other, so I think they're just counting on people making the assumption it has BC, only to find out after the fact that it doesn't. Does anyone know if it has BC?

But this looks like an awful trend continues.
Themed consoles - soon EVERY NEW GAME will have a themed "custom" console. The re-release of Burgertime (DON'T LAUGH, YOU KNOW THEY'RE WORKING ON IT SOMEWHERE)
will have a new Wii console with the burger, lettuce, tomato and sesame bun shaped casing.
