Ubisoft announces unimaginative 'Imagine Rock Star'
Say what you will about Ubisoft's Imagine line of games (targeted at girls aged 6 to 14), they're generally pretty original. There are precious few game makers trying to tap into the figure skating, fashion designing, and animal healing segments of the burgeoning DS game market. Unfortunately, the same can't really be said for Ubisoft's latest Imagine game announcement, Imagine Rock Star.
Not to focus on the negative, but when Imagine Rock Star comes out in June, it will bump up against a veritable cornucopia of competing DS rhythm games, including a couple that have a very similar premise of multiplayer, "join a band" action. We don't want to sell it short before we see it, but we find it hard to "imagine" (ha!) that this game will bring something new to a genre that's already getting a bit overcrowded. Especially when the "ability to customize the look of each band mate in order to become the most stylish rockers" is a major selling point. Then again, we aren't girls aged 6 to 14, so what do we know?

Fernando Rocker @ Mar 21st 2008 1:10PM
Why post this here? I don't think that anyone here is a girl from 6 to 14.
Why not a review of Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles? Why not more Soma Bringer? Why not the latest Kingdom Hearts DS news?
This is just Nintendo DS bashing...
Kyle Orland @ Mar 21st 2008 1:40PM
My review of Ring of Fates: It sucked.
A more detailed review should be up on Crispy Gamer today.
Since you asked.
Odog4ever @ Mar 21st 2008 1:40PM
I think they post this because some Joystiq readers have young children that play video games. Is it that hard to understand?

Fernando, relax, this isn't DS bashing.
The DS is open to all sorts of games for all sorts of people, whether young or old: that's the beauty of the system. I'm sure you, or someone you know, has a sister/cousin who would appreciate a game like this. I know I do. It's a game some people will enjoy, relax.

Fernando, i want to ask you something, does Nintendo pay you for all the fanboy support you give them, or what do you get from bashing the PS3 and defending Nintendo?. You onlu want attention from the people who visit the blog, or what do you really want?.
Fernando Rocker @ Mar 21st 2008 1:40PM
I did't wat to look like that... what I meant, they could have use this space to give us a better news.
It's ok to having this game... this week my wife bought Cooking Mama DS (really)...
I was not complaining about casual games.
Nigeria: Cody ChesnuTT Defense Force @ Mar 21st 2008 1:48PM
Fernando, you have a wife?
Wow. I imagined you to be some angsty teen, the kind the likes Nirvana, or something. You remind me of my little cousin.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Zeon Defense Force) @ Mar 21st 2008 2:11PM
Wait, this is pointless DS bashing coming from Fernando?!? THE HELL?!?
Okay, I don;'t really see how this is a rip on the DS. In fact, Kyle made specific mention of ripping on a casual girl series for breaking the tradition of bringing nontraditional gameplay styles to the table. Extra rip for jumping into a genre that is rapidly becoming crowded by the press release. He even went to far as to point out the wide variety on music games on the DS while avoiding the hideously awful Daigasso Band Brothers.
He's basically bashing Ubisoft for following the leader in a franchise they had essentially done everything but so far.
Farseer (GDI) @ Mar 21st 2008 2:33PM
Uh oh Nigeria... you just accused Fernando of liking Nirvana... you're in for it now.
You apparently haven't argued with him on a GH or RB thread before... ;)
elpmis @ Mar 21st 2008 1:20PM
Worst. Logo. Ever.
Omar @ Mar 21st 2008 2:03PM
Yeah, it looks weak.
Nigeria: Cody ChesnuTT Defense Force @ Mar 21st 2008 1:30PM
How can it be unimaginative if the series is called "imagine"?
Daniel @ Mar 21st 2008 2:11PM
worst. joke. evar.
Nigeria: Cody ChesnuTT Defense Force @ Mar 21st 2008 2:13PM
If you get 3 hearts I'm going to be so disappointed.
Mr.ESC @ Mar 21st 2008 2:30PM

*Votes up Daniel.

I guess this might fill the void of Green Day, MCR, Ashlee Simpson, Hilary Duff etc that Rock Band doesn't fill...
hvnlysoldr @ Apr 12th 2008 7:13PM
Those markets are being fulfilled in Japan...
