I believe it's got the making to become an epic franchise in the veins of Zelda. 3D adventure Kid Icarus would be amazing...

I think has a potential to be as epic as god of war, but an open world environment like spiderman, and I say spiderman because there has been no game I can think of that a person can fly or glide (spidey swings) and take advantage of the wii-mote that way.

Its Factor 5 all the way and they are into flying.

Pit a la Twilight Princess indeed, would be freakin' awesome.

Or even Pit a la Super Mario Galaxy would be freakiner awesome.

I think it'll be really difficult to make this 3D. How do you recreate the classic feel of the original Kid Icarus, where the object of most of the levels is to keep running and jumping straight up? 3D game play suggests a flatter landscape, where the object is to run around on the same level with just a slight variation on the height.

That being said, with how much I loved playing the original, I would so buy a new release in this franchise.

Set it in a series of towers and cavernous pits and stuff if you want to keep the original feeling of moving up via platforms. You don't even need a Zelda-like overworld, really. You could just use levels, I suppose.

Hmm, is that necessarily true? A developer can do it however they feel like it, it would not be any more dificult to make it a bit more vertical. I think for 3D they should take some emphasis off traveling upwards, but let's not throw it away.

To keep the feel, much of the game could use floating platforms with little or no floor. The platform, no falling feel could still be moderately kept.

That's why it would do better as a Super Mario Galaxy kinda platformer, just without the crazy gravity. Sky World would look like your basic Galaxy stage, a wide open area of sky (in this case) with random objects floating around where the worlds would be centered

I haven't actually played the original Kid Icarus, but I think that it could be very successful with a re-imagining, similar to what they did with the Metroid series. They changed Metroid from a run around-explore-collect-shoot game into an FPS and I think they did quite a good job of it. Maybe KI would do well as something similar to Twilight Princess, except that you could FREAKING JUMP!

Making Twilight Princess with a jump button would be the worst thing Nintendo could do. It's terribly uninspired, I think.

Every game should have a jump button. Every game without exception.

I agree. It doesn't matter what game, as long as I can jump. Need for Speed Underground would've been 10 times cooler if I could jump my car.

I think the reason a sequel is wanted so badly is just the character. Pit seems so badass in the way only an angel can be. I have the original and it's so difficult I doubt current gamers would enjoy it if it was kept like that. They have no need to recreate the feel of the original (Metroid Prime games feel and play very different than the original Metroid games). Make it a 3D platformer, NOT a Zelda-like game. Zelda is in my top three favorite series, but that's a bad move for Kid Icarus. No, a platformer with adventuring elements. 3D platformers are unfortunately dead with the N64, so few exist, and this one has potential.

Oh, and little to no waggle... seriously, what would they use it for, flapping your wings to fly? That'd get very irritating and tiring.

The IR would be cool for mid air flying while also aiming with the his Bow.

This is a tough decision. Kid Icarus definitely has the potential to be as epic of a series as Zelda is, but as far as the 3D goes, that's give and take for me.

I compare this a lot to the Metroid series. Metroid Fusion had its fair share of drama and action perfectly intertwined in a 2D environment. Its jump to 3D was definitely nice for me, but I never felt the same magic that I did with Super Metroid, Zero Mission, or Fusion.

If the rumors are true, and Factor 5 are the ones who are making Kid Icarus, then its 2D, because Lair was a complete failure and I don't even trust them with this title in the first place. If Nintendo is making it, then make it 3D. They will now how to do it better than anybody.

Does anyone remember "Shadows of the Empire". It had a few levels with a jet pack. I remember one that was in a canyon with pillars to land on all over the place. You could take a similar idea with Kid Icarus, except with flight. Falling to your death should be a constant danger.

I think Kid Icarus just has SO much potential to be the next awesome game series out there. I'd be thrilled to see Nintendo make it into an action game where Pit flips out and kills Eggplant Wizards or something.
If I were making it, I'd have a God Hand style combo system for up close attacks, arrow shooting with the Wiimote and maybe a focus on aerial combat over all but having Pit over or fly around for a short period of time. All with level design that forces you to make your way up, of course.

I would love to see a new 2D style game, too, but only as a sort of bonus type thing on Wii Ware. Maybe if it were more like Viewtiful Joe and less like NSMB I would think differently...but I wouldn't want to see Nintendo just apply a new coat of paint to a 20-something year old formula like that. I don't think it (or NSMB) would be a bad game but that would just be wasted potential.

I'm torn on this one. On one hand I absolutely love to play as Pit in Smash Bros. On the other, I don't really understand why anyone thinks the origional is any good. If they do make a new one, they should completely reinvent the series, make it a 3-d Platformer Adventure Game with a flying lead character. That would be fun.

I agree.
Kid Icarus was just not very good. Hell, the GB version was better than the original. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but Nintendo has a TON of classic games that I'd rather see new Wii sequels for, besides Pit. Like...

Punch out!!
Castlevania (Simon Belmont/platformer style)
Contra
Ice Climbers
Bionic Commando
Earthworm Jim
Mega Man
Pilotwings (already confirmed by gamestop.com)

Fernando would love it even if Pit didn't say, "Joystiq Rules!" xP

A sequel would sell...they already have a new model and voice actor lined up...so it is a no brainer.
Waggle would have to be sword only. Maybe a pointer for arrows but no more.
Nintendo has shown how to take a series from SNES to Gamecube with Metroid...lets get a series from Gameboy to Wii! Would it be Kid Icarus 3...or be like Turok?

As someone who never played Kid Icarus, I don't have much of an opinion one way or the other but at least SSBB is a big boost to Pit's popularity. However, "certain Brawlers" do make me loathe the character every now and then...

Nevertheless, better now with this character model than the Melee trophy model!

I knew that...I mean Metroid went in hiding with an SNES game then came back on the 'Cube...Kid Icarus' last game was on the GB.

Oh yea, On N64 Samus went on SSB then GC...new game, and now Pit is on SSBB...COINCIDENCE?!? I THINK NOT!

If it were a 3-D platformer, I'd be all over it. Not a copy of Zelda, but similar in respects of awesomeness and puzzles and stuff. However, I played the original Kid Icarus, and didn't really see the appeal of it. If you guys lie it, that's cool ,but for me it was a little dull. If Ninty made it a bit moe actiony and kept it 2D and released it on WiiWare, I'd buy it regardless.

I would rather they make a Kid Icarus game for the DS as they could keep the nostalgic side scrolling of the original and save the wii for a bigger franchise that we can see as realistic.

Such as a new Starfox, Animal Crossing, Zelda, or F-Zero

It would make a lot of sense, making it the second series revived by the Smash Effect, after Melee inspired Fire Emblem to be brought to North America, Brawl could easily revive Kid Icarus

I also hope that the Smash Effect convinces them to release Mother 3 in some form or other, too. Another pipe dream of mine is a new Ice Climber

I think it could be done pretty well. I doubt it would have the same feel, (no matter how they go about creating it), in 3D, but meh. I think it'd work better as a 3D platformer with action/adventure elements rather than an action/adventure with platformer elements.
