Sakurai actually used this feature in Kirby's Air Ride four years ago.

It's way better than those stupid achievements from Xbox games. I hate that whole gamer score system. It's just a bunch of penis-waving. Brawl sets goals and gives you rewards for reaching them. Really, it's basically the same thing as the unlockable trophies and characters and stages and stuff from Melee, except this time you have a way to know what the challenges are without checking a guide online.

Not liking the 360 gamerscore system makes him a biased fanboy? Weird, I thought it was just a personal opinion that he enjoys actually getting content for doing things rather than making a number under their name get bigger. Achievements can be fun to go for and unlock, but in the end you don't get anything new for it. Besides, gamerscore means nothing except for how much money people blow on games for the 360. People with 600 gamerpoints can kick just as much butt on Halo 3 as people with 36000.

"Brawl sets goals and gives you rewards for reaching them."

How is that different than xbox live achievements? It's basically the same thing. The problem with xbox live is some of the achievements are poor choices, and you end up with teams of people not really playing the game to buff up their gamerscore. The games that choose their achievements well (Like the orange box) make the system not much different from brawl at all.

What reward do you get from those god awful achievements? Some points and a 30x30 picture. Big freaking deal. It's a hell of a stretch to call that a reward.

My theory about Brawl is that the museum aspect of it is more important than the actual gameplay; the complex challenges system and remarkable breadth of unlockable items play into this.

If you're interested -- that is, interested enough to read another eight hundred words about it :) -- take a look: http://cruiseelroy.net/2008/03/brawl/

i'm trying to at least get every hint before i use the hammers, just in case i need them to unlock something harder i don't know about yet.

so far, haven't been able to do any 100-man, 15-minute, or 100 in endless brawl yet. i managed to do the cruel brawl one by using pit to fly underneath the stage and get them to fall off.

I'd recommend you use the Cruel Brawl strategy for surviving the 15-minute one. I just constantly floated under the stage with Jigglypuff from edge to edge for 15 minutes; dull, but effective.

...I've nearly got all of them...
So close... yet so far...

DARN YOU BOSS BATTLES!!! DARN YOU!!!!
I can never get the timing right for the final boss in very hard mode...

Other than the obvious 100-hours-on-brawl, all final smash trophies, all trophies, 500 stickers (so close... I need like 25 more), 50000 coins (or was it 500000?), and such... I'm practically done.
All stages unlocked, all characters unlocked, all assist trophies unlocked, almost all songs unlocked, all stage builder items unlocked, all events and modes unlocked, and etc...

The only thing that truly eludes me (and pisses me off) is the very hard mode and intense mode for boss battles...
I have bad timing, so dodging that "instant KO through-out the entire screen --attack" is nearly impossible for me.... it was easier in hard mode, when that move wouldn't immediately kill you.

There is of course Classic and all-star mode, but those are a lot easier than the boss battles for me. (as you can see, the boss battles have taken up most of my time)

...because of my constant boss-battling, I haven't even gone to get every boss trophy in subspace emissary...

...the challenge system? Oh, it's cool. It just likes to mock me.

Damn, you make me feel bad. It took me forever just to beat Tabuu on easy, until I found out about sidestepping (I was never very skilled at melee either, mostly just button mashing heh) although part of it was because I was playing with my sister who is even worse than me. But actually it's good that I learned about using dodges effectively from Tabuu because I think I'm a lot better now. How many hours have you played to get all that stuff?

Dunno. I think I got that after 4 days... (not sure how long each day... never timed it)
... It could've gone faster if I wasn't making stages... I'm nearly up to 70 stages now.

I'm working my way through them. I've almost got every blue block unlocked or red, with two exceptions, although I'm pretty sure what they are. It's definitely a good way to keep people playing when multiplayer isn't an option at the moment.

Boss Battles can go off in a corner and die, though. No continues? Seriously?

Boss Battles have been another staple of Kirby games

But we're lucky, they could've pulled the Kirby 64 boss marathon system: No power-ups, no extra lives, no heal items

Like Roto said, this was done in Kirby's Air Ride, and done WELL. Of course, it was a square back then, not a long rectangle, and unlocking a square revealed the hints for the four squares on each side of it. Sakurai even brought over the menu system, with barely any changes.

Since KAR might be my one of my five favorite games *period*, I completely love the inclusion of the old menu and challenge systems. That game did not receive half of the attention it deserved. The replay value really is right up there with SSB. Meteos also stands up to years of play without gaining any gray hair.

I...guess I like Sakurai a lot.

Add me to the Kirby's Air Ride fans. That game was great, but people got turned off by the just "A" controls.

I haven't started obsessing over the Brawl unlockables yet (save for stages and characters), I just kinda like to see the stuff happen randomly. Eventually, it'll be something that consumes me.

Does anyone know if you can use Golden Hammers on the red windows after you have made every window red? I know right now I can't use Golden Hammers on red windows but if I make my entire challenge area red windows then my left-over Golden Hammers would be wasted. Does anyone know the answer to this?

you should be able to use golden hammers on the red spaces. But there are some spots that just can't be broken with the hammers like any of the boss battle ones.

I carefully positioned the hammers I used in order to either unlock or make visible as many things as possible. My main goal is to get all the music, so even if I don't unlock a CD it might give me a hint to unlocking one. I don't particularly care about trophies or stickers, though the stage building parts are pretty nice also.

Replay the boss levels in Subspace and hope that a trophy stand spawns. The higher difficulty level you're at the more they spawn, and there's even stickers that increase the trophy stand drop rate. I put those on Pokemon Trainer since Charizard's pretty much the best boss killer in the game~

I have yet to use any Golden Hammers yet, I'm going to try every strategy on these Multiman Brawls before I use one on these, I'll probably use it on the All Star Mode on Intense with No Continues one. Since that's insane and I'll probably never be able to beat that.

Onto another topic, is anyone else disappointed that MP3 music can not be imported or listened too on an SD card? I thought that it was announced that it could be done back on the dojo a while back.

Just keep pushing down on the joystick or d-pad or whatever, once the cursors on the bottom row of blocks, push down again, and you get to select one of your hammers

I liked it when it was in Kirby Air Ride, I like it now

I use the Golden Hammers whenever I see a challenge that just seems like busywork, like to get Stage Editor Parts Set B you had to build 5 stages in stage editor, seemed like Busy work, rather than an actual accomplishment, so i hammered it

I always keep one gold hammer on hold, though, so I only use one if I have two or more.

I've so far only used one Golden Hammer... and it was on the Stage Builder parts that you unlock after making 15 stages... I think that's a little ridiculous... But then something else weird is that I have so far built 6 stages, but I haven't unlocked the first stage builder parts that you should unlock once you make 5! Is it because you need to save the levels to the Wii, and not an SD card? 'Cause I've been saving them to SD the whole time... But I've tried transferring them over to the Wii, to see if that'll unlock it... but alas, it does not!
Has anyone else had this problem?

I heard some hammers cant break some of the glass squares. I only have 12 challenges left. But i might use a hammer on beat boss battle on intense, and beat 100 man battle with everyone.

- Clear Boss Battles on hard difficulty.
- Clear Boss Battles on very hard difficulty.
- Clear Boss Battles on intense difficulty.
- Clear 100-man brawl with all characters.
- Endure a 15-minute brawl.
- Exceed 300 ft. combined swim distance for all characters.
- Play over 30 hours of brawls.
- Play 50 hours of brawls.
- Play over 100 hours of brawls.
- Collect all songs.
- Collect all stickers.
- Get 500 different trophies.

For the 300 ft. challenge, go on the pirate ship stage with a 3 minute timer...then jump in the water the whole time. When your character's head is only visible(or looking like they are drowing xP) just jump and grab the edge of the ship and let go...then repeat. You can move in the water long cause even if your opponent followed you, he/she can't fight in water anyway.(also, you can move around if you didn't know)

Remember, everyone. Combined for ALL characters doesn't mean every character has to do it too(except for HR challenges...I was mad when I found that out xD).
