Japanese hardware sales, March 10 - March 16: The Great Egg Hunt edition

We're sure that many of you currently lay in a Whopper-fueled stupor, unable to will your appendages to lift themselves off of the ground -- but perhaps we could entice you to jump into action for a worthy reward. You see, hidden inside of three posts over the past two months are tiny Easter eggs, just aching to be found by an avid Joystiq reader. The first person to find all three and leave a comment containing the headlines of the stories where the eggs were located wins a prize more valuable than gold -- a B-B-B-Brush with Fame on the next Joystiq Podcast. We've got hints after the jump -- Let the hunt begin!
Those who haven't set off in a headstrong search for fame and glory know that true happiness comes from knowing what consoles sold the most in Japan last week. No real shockers from this edition -- the handheld market is continuing to boom, with the PSP dominating overall (though the DS is beginning to nip at its heels), and the 360 is selling at N-Gage-esque speeds.

Egg #1 -- Finding this one will be as tough as being between a Rock In a Hard Place.
Answer: "Rock in a Hard Place" was the name of an Aerosmith album. We've written stories about Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.
Egg #2 -- This poor egg. All day long, wearing a mask of false bravado, trying to keep up the smile that hides a tear.
Answer: These are lyrics to Player's smash hit "Baby Come Back," featured in a post about the new editor in chief of Gamespot.
Egg #3 -- Can you have help finding this egg? Yes, no, maybe -- I don't know. Can you repeat the question?
Answer: Yes, no, and so on are the opening words to "Boss of Me", the theme song to Malcolm in the Middle, performed by none other than They Might Be Giants -- who performed on the Sims 2: FreeTime soundtrack.

Because there's just something that makes it not as good as the DS.
For the record I don't play my DS anymore and I'm just PSP but theres still something missing. Something big and mofoly vital.

I think it only needs a second analog stick and that's it.I have a Ds but I haven't play it in a while mostly because I haven't bought games for it in 2 months.
Next month I'm buying all the games I wanted to play starting for Sega Superstars Tennis.

No, it's not hardware. It's software the PSP is missing. It's like you have these Sony fans who spout off lists of games but it's like looking at a mediocre list of blandness.
Just 1 truly excellent game wanted. Reward money £25.

In PSP's case, the games actually aren't selling. It's like PSP games have been hit with the UMD curse. Or most likely, people are just buying PSP as a TV tuner and a video player, not as a game console.

I realized the first egg hint said "In" not "And," and the Aerosmith song has "In" in the title. Also, Aerosmith has a Guitar Hero game coming out, so I thought that would be a safer bet. No one from joystiq has told me anything yet so idk what I won.

And of course, Nintendo will outsell again the PS3 again this month in with the NPD numbers, because the release of SSBB.
And even GTA 4 and GT5 will be released next month, Im 100% sure that the Wii, with Mario Kart, will outsell again the next month both the PS3 and 360.

Maybe it will outsell GT5..but GTA IV...i find it really hard to believe since it will be for both PS3 and 360 and the hype is like HUUUGEE

Youre smoking the bad grass if you think Mario cart is going to out sell GT5. It may out sell Prologue but not the full game. GT4 sold right under 9 million copies, Mario cart N64 sold right under 2 million and Mario kart double dash sold about 800K. Keep dreaming. Now that Nintendo has blown their load with refried games its going to be next gen before Nintendo drops any big games again. Have fun with that.

The N64 and GC never had the wide audience that the Wii has right now. Mario Kart Wii will sell just fine.

sigh, Fernando, just enjoy the fact that your console of choice is first place...
Many of us know that the Wii isn't really a fad, but you have to accept that hardware wise, the Wii is a joke this generation compared to how Nintendo have done things before, didn't you find that disappointing? I remember (and loved) when Nintendo meant power and quality, now? not so much, I can see rehash after rehash of 15+ year old franchises....
Also, why diss the PS3? really, I haven't heard any anti-Wii comments by PS3 fans here, or do you need to justify the fact that you don't own one?
Oh, and out of those 3 titles that you mentioned, only Yakuza 3 has been recently released, the other 2 have been released quite some time ago...

Chris: Mario Kart sold around 8.5 million on the N64 and 4.5 million on the Gamecube, remember as well that there significantly fewer of these consoles than either of the previous Playstations.
Now these numbers are from Wikipedia so i don't fully trust them (just for the record though it lists GT as approx 11 million, GT2 as 9.5 million, GT3 as 15 million and GT4 as 10 million) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_games#PlayStation but they are certainly more accurate than the figures that you have pulled out of your ass.

Yeah, but with a gigantic install base... besides, what I meant is that even with the release of both GT5 and GTA, the Wii will outsell the PS3 hardware wise.
Now, the only way that GTA will outsell Mario Kart is because is multiplatform... but MARK MY WORDS, PLEASE. It will outsell PS3 version of GTA.

WTF? They managed to sell a massive amount of software with an lower install base than the Wii!
Mario Kart DD managed to sell almost 5 million and the 64 version was the second best selling N64 title, with 8.5 million copies sold... I dont know where you get those numbers.

i will never understand how someone can defend a game system with broken online, way behind the times specs, enough quality games to count on one hand...barely, and promotes sickening amounts of shovelware while releasing an actual worthwile game every 5 months to keep the sheep calm.
