New games this week: Dark Sector edition

We've got to be honest, this pick is as much for nostalgia as it is for the game's importance: Just four short years after it was announced, Dark Sector, the very first next-gen game, is being released to store shelves. Way to never give up, little guy, you did it. Now please be good.

If you haven't been holding your breath (and it's lucky for you that you haven't) there are a few other interesting picks this week like Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword and Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core on the PSP. Check the full list after the break.

Its good to see the PS3 version running well. I was concerned, with Dark Sector being from that first batch of games. Didn't want another Double Agent. Despite the wishy washy statement they made about it, it seems they really did get it running well.

Another mandatory install though. Love the super fast loading times, hate hearing people whine about them. Sword, more than one edge, etc.

Recap:
Runs well, looks great. Was worried because of when it started development. Took a jab at the lame PS3 port of Double Agent.

DS has a mandatory install. No talk of size. Loads lightning fast, but people will whine about the install anyway. Most of them will be people that don't have PS3s, of course.

I've also seen footage of this game running well on PS3 which is a good sign IMO. Although most of the footage of this game is usually on 360 and the Devs said it runs better on 360 I'm glad they are showing it running on both which means they have confindence in both versions.

I cant wait for this game, hope it lives up to the hype. I didnt even know there was going to be multiplayer for this title 'till about 2 months ago. So its that much sweeter =)

Their comments about technical issues are all in the past tense. It wouldn't be surprising if the 360 version ran better just because of when development started, but unless you've got one newer, I stand by them being the same.

Actually if you look up early dev interviews they state that The PS3 was indeed the lead platform for this game yet you see what happened there with the complications. But anyway like I said glad its running well on both systems. Supposedly Gears fans will be able to pick this up and play with no adjustments to the controles since it is so similar.

Guess PS3 owners might have a small taste of what Gears is like? If their PS3fanboyism has made them never want to try Gears for whatever reason. Not sure, but Im just saying because I heard a pre-review and someone called it Gears/RE4 1.5 with a deeper storyline which is great IMO. Heres hoping it doesnt pull a Army of Two on us, although I ended up warming up to that game in the end.

Octamania looks kinda cool to me.

Is Universe at War the RTS they were talking about on the 1up Yours Podcast the other week? If so, it sounded pretty cool.

As for Dark Sector, I second that "Now please be good." I've been waiting a long time for this one.

I'm looking out for Viking. That game looks pretty sweet. Also Ninja Gaiden DS if it was coming to the UK this week, but I don't think it is.

I am going to tear it up in Asgard!

The only reason to escape from paradise city would be if Axel Rose is there hogging all the women.

Otherwise this game wouldn't make any sense to me.

I thought TimeShift was supposed to be the "first next-gen" game.. regardless, taking this long to come out could mean a slew of things - it could be average, it could be great, or it could be flat out TERRIBLE.
I'll give it a rent.

Comment bug: I know this comment will appear, but as of writing of the comment, I see no other comments even though the article claims there are 7. Technically, this should be the eighth. I'm running firefox 2.0.0.12.

Tell me about it. I thought I was "teh banned" but there was no way Joystiq would know what I done to that schoolmarm....

I'm guessing they attempted to fix the comment system from what they heard in their "whats wrong with the comment system" thread, and ended up breaking it worse.

BTW joystiq, this is the second time I've noticed these symptoms. The first was several months ago.

this Dark Sector looks interesting, i just started seeing the commercials for it, i may give it a rent. i was also curious Viking. ive been a fan of Norse Mythology (seriously, its some crazy stuff in there) ever since i took a Norse Lit class as a gen ed. i would love to play a game based on it, something like God or War or something. any know of any other decent Norse Mythology games if this one isnt any good.

Viking: Battle for Asgard is top dog for me with week. I'm hoping it will be as good as many previews (and some reviews) have made it out to be.

Obscure: The Aftermath looks pretty interesting.

Viking Battle for Asgard is freaking awesome. I've got about 7-8 hours in. It's freaking epic. A sleeper hit for sure. It sucks because it'll probably never generate the sales it deserves.
