(no i'm not starting a 300 joke) but i guess in...15-20 years there will be a new game coming out for whatever system involving master chief and sony's biggest mascot (btw what would you say is sony's biggest mascot? i honestly have no idea)

It used to be crash bandicoot but I don't think there are any characters that are synonymous with the ps3. Maybe solid snake.

The PS3's mascot is the Blu-Ray disc. They should put it in a skirt with visible diaper line (the dreaded VDL), give it a straw hat, martini, nipple piercings; and have it eat a chocolate bar, with a crack pipe in the other hand, while trying hop over Canada's border. That way it could relate to all ages, and phases of life; possibly people.

In all due seriousness, Sony has Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid. Two successful adult titles. I fail to see how they have not yet established Snake as their system's mascot. He's 'cool' enough, appeals to pirates (Sony's diehard fanbase), and stars in a pretty darn good series. However, I think they haven't established a mascot as they figure they don't need it with their 'adult' audience. The thing is: people like to rally around leaders. Whether it's Mario, Master Chief, Hitler, Kristen Bell...

Gonna have to call you out here, chase. Both FF & MGS have appeared on consoles other than Sony's. Can you imagine back in the day Sonic appearing on a Nintendo console, or Mario on a Sega console? It just wouldn't happen.
Final Fantasy especially, has appeared on every console I can think of, this generation and last, home and handheld. Certainly not PS exclusive there. And although this MGS appears to be PS3 exclusive (for now!), the previous iterations have appeared on both Gamecube & XBox in some shape or form.
I recommend Jak & Daxter or Ratchet & Clank. Though not as good, or as well-selling, they are both synonymous with Sony's systems.

Most of the Sony mascots have went multiplatform. However, of all of the mascots left I would probably say Kratos would be the new Sony mascot.

Sorry, Geist... I've actually been calling it that for quite some time. And your faith in humanity SHOULDN'T be gone. Well, actually, it should, but not because people are calling the Playstation 3 by it's more "proper" name.

See, you're doing Humanity a disservice by calling the PS3 by anything other than it's true name. Until it can wise up a little and legally change it's name (by releasing some more *good* games that aren't FPS games) then we all just have to buck up and "calls em like we sees em".

I'm impressed. That model looks just as good if not better than the model in Halo 3. Proportions look off to me, but that's probably because I'm tired.

i have no reason to get a ps3 yet, but tre calling it a gaystation instantly makes him a fucking dumb ass. 1 because making a name up for it is in itself stupid, and 2 using gay as a way of putting something down shows that he is no better then the average 10 year old that plays halo all day long.

I'm not much of a halo fan, but thats pretty damn good.

It looked really good in the image so I had to check it out. Looks even better in action with the Action Cam mod on. Halo would make a fancy 3ps.

Agreed. Colour me impressed(which that colour is an off-shoot of glowing florescent clear). I'm enticed now to buy that used copy of UTIII that I saw at the local store.

As far as I know, you can download a tool to convert mods from the PC version to the PS3 version, but I don't think it goes PS3->PC.

The rest of the character mods on that page look awesome as well! Kudos to the creator.

Uh, that was made by evilengine, as far as I know. Not whatever tool you guys linked to. Moreover, wow-- what a shitty site to decide to link to out of all the Ut3 communities.

And 5 different Spartan (MJOLNIR, not 300) types, everyone from Gears of War, and tons of other models have been available on PC since a little after release of Ut3. Why is it only news now that ps3 can do it?

Because PCs are too hard for everyone to get working, I mean, you have to actually ASK someone for help if you can't follow instructions.

And didn't you know that they also cost a minimum 2 grand to play even a 5 year old game? 10 grand if you wanna play anything from 3 years ago.

Regardless, the mod-authors should be given credit-- not some piece of shit site that hosts the files.

These things didn't magically appear for PS3 users. PC gamers and modders created them through hard work.

Well, here's the bigger question there. Are we sure the Gears characters weren't simply stripped from the PC version? You'd think with the games being damn near identical in formats and such, it wouldn't be too much work just to port.

But yeah, the creators need credit.

the funny thing is, UT3 is actually superior to Halo 3, and this Master Chief character mod looks more detailed and high-def than the Halo 3 Master Chief model which is pretty much an upscaled version of Halo 1/Halo 2.

This just shows why the PS3 version with mods is a better option than the more locked down 360 version of UT3. I have been preaching the mods thing for UT3 since release and this is just another reason why. Mutators, character models and custom levels make the replay ability super high on this game. When you play this game in 3rd person with the action cam it's like a super fast version of Gears Of War. I hope everyone with a PS3 gets to experience this game how it is supposed to be played (with mods). I was also playing against Bender last night as well!!!

Yeah I saw you online playing Rock Band. If I sign out its not because I want to, its because sometimes my connection gets interuppted and signs me out of PSN for some reason. It never does it if Im playing online MP but if Im playing anything on SP sometimes it logs me out and if frustrates me.

Ive already checked my connection settings and it always passes and my signal strength to my wifi router is high so dont know whats happening =(

Actually this is one of the reasons MS has a closed system, and won't let mods on the 360 without being certified before available for public consumption. The very fact people are breaking copy right laws on a regular basis because of UT 3, does nothing but confirmed to MS they made the right choice.

MS has the right to sue Sony and EPIC for distributing content that breaks copy right laws. As well as the modeler. Welcome to the real world people. I wouldn't be suprized if Sony eventually gets sued by some one because of UT 3. Weither its MS, LEGO or one of the other companies whose copy rights and trademarks have been or will be violated.

I don't know if there would be any valid point to be held in possibly suing Sony or Epic over this... simply because this was done by an individual/group source outside of either company. They could go after those guys 'n gals, but that's about it, really. DL it while you can, folks! ;]

HOWEVER... if they wanted to sue because the game has the ability to be modded in such a fashion, that could be done(albeit, a nit-picky case like Gibson vs ROCKBAND & GUITAR HERO); but a case like that would most likely be thrown out as well. There are NUMEROUS games in the market(and even in production)that could/can be modded in such a fashion... so as they say, "go after one, go after them all".

Actually, companies cannot be held accountable for user created content. Or these companies would have been taken on long ago. Copyright breaking happens in the PC modding community all the time and all attacking it ever does is make somebody laugh that some company out there is pissed that the Delorian from Back to the Future had been added to Grand Theft Auto.

you do realize this is only changing basically the file on YOUR PS3... no one else online can see your model of Master Chief unless they got the same mod and changed the file... this is exactly how FFXI works with DAT modding...and this stuff has been done for YEARS in the PC community... so this is absolutely nothing new...

Why freak out about it now?
