Wii Guitar Hero III owners get free faceplate
We think that those playing Guitar Hero III on the Wii have every right to feel like the cast-aside stepchild. Not only does their system of choice not get the DLC from the other consoles, they also got the fun of sending their discs in to be replaced when it turned out that the game was mixed in mono rather than stereo sound. Now, Activision is attempting to make up for one of those slights with a free guitar faceplate for those who had to send their game away. What's especially cool is that the company didn't make a big announcement about the deal, they just quietly went about trying to make things right with jilted fans. Good show, Activision. Now, about that DLC ...

Not good enough.
Doing the refund and getting the 360 version...
So I can own another guitar for RB bass.... and sometimes play GH3.
Ghen @ Mar 24th 2008 4:50PM
Its good enough for me considering I don't have an Xbox.. Plus my tour group on GH.com is almost exclusively Wii anyway, so that would be shooting myself in the foot.

Sure hasn't hurt sales numbers!
loof @ Mar 24th 2008 12:22PM
Some people don't seem to care about the mono sound issue. I told a few people about it and their response was pretty much "meh, I don't have surround sound".
loof @ Mar 24th 2008 11:07AM
Where's my free faceplate?
Shagittarius @ Mar 24th 2008 11:18AM
Guitar Hero is dead to me anyways.
jetsaredim @ Mar 24th 2008 11:20AM
Is everyone getting the same faceplate? Will be easy to see who has and hasn't done the replacement at any local tournaments. Also, can I add my name to those wanting some DLC-lovin on the Wii? I've heard that it's not going to happen until GH4 tho. :(
NickB @ Mar 24th 2008 11:24AM
Nice! Is it just showing up with the replacement discs? My brother should be ahppy about this...
ToRo @ Mar 24th 2008 11:24AM

A free faceplate? I guess it's cool that they are free, but I'm not sure that I would even pick up a faceplate if it were free.

Regarding the mono problem:
When will Europe get a chance to get a replacement disc/refund?
kip @ Mar 24th 2008 11:55AM
So are they giving these to everyone, or just people who have sent their game in recently? I sent mine in in mid-Feb and got it back two weeks later; should I expect a free faceplate?
kip (SSBB:3437-2813-1377) @ Mar 25th 2008 1:53PM
To anyone wondering, yes you get the faceplate even if you had your disc replaced over a month ago..
License to ill @ Mar 24th 2008 12:05PM
Talk about bread crumbs...
BarryOgg @ Mar 24th 2008 12:11PM
Heh, there'll be a GH3 tournamentin the mall near where I study, (Warsaw, Poland) on 6th-7th of April. Man, I certainly hope there'll be some Activision representative, as I surely would have some "kind" words for him, regarding the lack of European replacement discs so far.
Neebs @ Mar 24th 2008 12:35PM
Oh yeah, maybe I should register my disc. I never got around to it but now that I have Brawl to play I guess it doesn't matter.
mykie @ Mar 24th 2008 12:37PM
This has totally cemented my decision to send back the whole package for the $132 check (assuming it won't bounce).
A[n ugly] faceplate and stereo sound is supposed to encourage me not to send my bundle back? Really, that's what's supposed sway me from taking cold hard cash?
Activision has done so many things wrong in the last few years, I'm praying they get rolled into the EA Katamari soon...
Gurei @ Mar 24th 2008 1:04PM

Am I the only one who doesn't care about DLC?
Yeah, more songs is nice... I just feel the prices for them are too high.
Vcize @ Mar 24th 2008 2:42PM
At least Activision gives away lots of free stuff even if they can't keep up with the DLC numbers from Rockband. I'm having a blast with the free Dropkick Murphy's trackpack, and still love playing the free Halo 3 Theme and We Three Kings tracks.

Releasing the boss battle tracks for free was a nice quick-fix too. I bet EA would've charged to re-download those songs that were already in the game.
kip (SSBB:1805-1984-4852) @ Mar 24th 2008 3:18PM
Unfortunately, those of us with the Wii version haven't gotten any DLC (free or otherwise)... :(
Alex @ Mar 24th 2008 2:54PM
I haven't even gotten my replacement disc back yet...
NvM @ Mar 24th 2008 4:54PM
Lame, didn't get one.
Gush @ Mar 24th 2008 9:06PM
I sent my mono game back a few weeks ago, and I received my replacement disk with a little apology note, but no free faceplate.
Gush @ Mar 24th 2008 9:09PM
Oh, wait. Here we go. From the news source: "From what we understand, the faceplates will arrive a few weeks after customers get their fixed editions."
Sigd @ Mar 25th 2008 7:55AM
Well us in the UK ( + rest of Europe) are STILL playing in Mono. No replacement discs are yet available, nevermind a freakin faceplate
daniel @ Oct 14th 2008 12:49PM
I'm sick of reading about Euro gamers feeling even more shafted; yes you are shafted. The European region has always been so, with later releases, fewer releases etc. (But at least you get some of your own games that we don't get.) The lesson here is, Europe will get replacements and service on par with the legal threats that the company or companies would be exposed to. So, if a consumer group in say France were to actually sue, and win, then you will get them. The laws aren't quite as favorable though, so there is almost no risk to Activision that selling a Mono game with DTS surround printed on the box would expose them to legal costs or a lasting bad reputation.
NecroSen @ Mar 28th 2008 2:38PM
Just got my faceplate in the mail today, after getting the game back last week. Looks pretty sweet.
BTW, the apology note does say it's from Activision, but the package said it was from Red Octane Publishing.
Also, where in the hell are the other faceplates for this guitar on the market? This is the first faceplate for a Wii Les Paul controller I've ever seen since I got the game a month after release.
zxon @ Apr 17th 2008 7:09AM
It seems that this doesn't apply to those in the UK who send in their discs, because RedOctane don't ship directly to the UK. I was just on the phone with Activision though, and they say they're looking into how they can similarly compensate those in the UK and Europe. The way I see it, if I've asked about it then they should just comply to us with the same offer.
zxon @ Apr 17th 2008 7:09AM
BTW Sigd, to get replacement discs in the UK/Europe use this URL:

For those in the states, use this one:

Took 6 weeeks to get my game back and there was no free face plate. One pee'd off UK Wii user here
