As excited as we are about new maps for Call of Duty 4, we have to admit to being a bit perplexed as to why we weren't hearing anything about the content coming to PCs, the system that's usually first in line for downloadable content. Now, after reading a recent post on Infinity Ward spokesman "fourzerotwo"/Robert Bowling's blog, we're even more confused.
Bowling writes that while no plans have been announced, "we are working to bring PC users the same content in the future, however logistics are being worked out on how to make that happen." Wait, can't they just download a file? After all they -- hey! Wait a minute, we get it now! Maybe by "logistics" he means "how to charge money for them." Now that would make perfect sense. Sure, there are other things he could mean, but our monetization sense is definitely tingling.

I predict the following first move PC users all over to steam platform in order to help "secure" cd-keys. (if you read infinity ward forums a few posts relate to people having their keys stolen).
And then its simple everyone on steam a micro transaction is a lot easier to enforce. The question really comes down to are PC gamers willing to start paying for micro transactions...

Don't forget that the console versions require a licensing fee to have their game on a it, which is around 7-9 dollars last time i checked, while the PC doesn't. They're not really losing out.

If it goes live on the PC no one will buy it. It will be pirated if it isn't free.

Before I get called a pirate let me just say that I do try to buy everything within steam that I can.

This is pretty surprising. I don't remember many game developers forcing us PC users to pay for addon content (other than the form of stand-alone expansion packs and their downloadable counterparts). IF they are going to charge for this, I would expect quite outlash from the PC gaming community about this.
PC devs DO NOT need to follow the ideas and practices of console devs. The idea of free material in the forms of maps, patches, and addon packs has been a staple of the PC gaming community for YEARS.

this is PC we're talking about, has noone seen the massive amount of custom maps already available for PC gamers? or how about the AWE4 mod that adds game modes like capture the flag, which infinity ward decided to leave out.(how can you have a multiplayer FPS without capture the flag?!)
if IW releases them free it would be nice- but by no means do we need them enough to pay for them. If the map pack is available on steam for under $10 I'll give it a go, otherwise I'll stick to user-created maps and the original maps the game shipped with.

If Infinity doesn't supply them, the maps will be available in no time anyways through some map-maker. I'm sure they'll even be able to extract a lot of it from the console versions. All that this could hurt in the end is people playing on ranked servers. There are already quite a few custom maps out there. I haven't played many because I frequent a couple of ranked servers, but they are there.

Weren't the devs all in an uproar about CoD4 being pirated and so many thousands of online players using pirated keys? "PC gaming has been lost to 'teh pirates!'" or something of that nature. Hmm, sudden about-face then eh boys? Realize that you can try to milk gamers elsewhere, even if they didn't pay for the game? Come on. Make the maps free. I'm sick of the nickel-and-diming DLC BS going on. How long were maps free for games before now? Thought so. PC gamers don't pay for maps when they can make their own. I love the 360 more than most people but the adaptation of nickel-and-diming DLC is ridiculous; enough already. Perfect example: paying for more maps in a map-stricken Worms and Bomberman? Come on guys.

I don't think IW is stupid enough to bother trying to charge for the content. Sure, you get the rampant piracy, but you gotta remember, 3 days after the Xbox Live versions come out, PC map makers will have replicated them, and released them to the community.
My guess is maybe a bit of tuning everything around so it plays better with more PC centric styles of play (Namely, less run and gun, more camp and shoot the idiots, which is a tactic that has worked wonders on the console version the week I had it, and I suck at console shooters.)
A box here, and there can make a nice difference.

PC players wont pay for new maps on the PC. If I was a PC COD4 player (I'm a 360 player and WILL buy the maps on the 360) I would not pay for any new maps. With the mod community being large on the PC I would just go and download the many free maps from various places the community puts out. So many are can be very good, thus no reason to pay for new maps. Even if they are "official".
So probably with that being the case for the PC release of these maps being the delay, no way they will make much on the PC.

I guess IW didn't get the memo about this particular RK map pack with 31 maps in total, free of course:
