Advance Wars
Stimulating, fun, and just the right amount of time consumption.

Picross DS and Sudoku Gridmaster.

Not the best of games, but doesn't tie you down, and doesn't make you feel bad turning the system off mid-game.
perfect for that "I don't know, maybe 20 seconds or half an hour." kind of wait. oh, and it doesn't take all my attention too, so I can still stay fully alert to my surroundings.

++ to Picross DS.

As the author said, maybe it is not my most OMG FUN111!1 game, but it's non-commital. You play through one puzzle and go "OK, I'm fine now".

My other quick boredom killer is Geometry Wars Galaxies.

It used to be Tetris for killing off short gaps of bored free time, but now solving a couple puzzles in Professor Layton usually does the trick, or if I'm not in a puzzling mood, and would rather blast things, Space Invaders Extreme is perfect, that Rez-esque soundsystem is awesome.

Definitely Worms: Open Warfare 2 for me, or the occasional Tetris DS

Recently I've been playing Picross or Shiren on my lunch breaks.

Since you can just put the DS to sleep when you need to stop for a while, virtually any game is pick up and play. But Shiren is one of the very few games that is playable in arbitrary increments without having to sleep or losing even a second of progress. Quite cool.

One game I keep going back to is Sonic Rush or, more recently, Sonic Rush Adventure. Great for when I have a few minute. Just jump in, speed through a level, and tada. Done.

Being a grown man, it's a little embarrassing to say so, but Pokemon Pearl keeps me busy when I'm bored.

However, going beyond that, I would say that I'm addicted to PkMn. I think it's a good thing though, since I started playing for one reason and one reason alone: To quit smoking. Every time I got an urge, instead of reaching for a cigarette, I turned on my DS and leveled my pokemon a bit more. Been smoke free for 15 days now, still going strong, still gotta catch em all.

Couldn't agree more about Pokemon, 'cept I play just for fun. I'll pop out my DS in a class if we have nothing else to do in there (And the teacher allows such acts of antiboredom) and go around resuming whatever I had been doing previously (Which is EV training, something new I've gotten into).

That "mixing records" thing is pretty fun also, albeit confusing to do, as well as going Underground and playing with about 7 people. And I do this on a weekly basis. :D

Electroplankton, EBA, and now Shiren. Actually, Shiren has taken over my life, and I've found a disturbing lack of entries here extolling its many virtues.

Layton, except I don't solve puzzles. Ooooh no. I open up the "music" bonus feature and try to pick out the various parts of the music.

"Oh! Accordion! And a violin! Is that a bassoon?"

I'm such a nerd. Hahahaha :(

I also like Pokeyman Trozei.
