While you're busy downloading the now free Heroic Map Pack, indulge yourself with news of even more maps coming to Halo 3. Coming on the heels of Ghost Town and last week's Avalanche – itself a remake of Halo 1's Sidewinder – and rounding out the triptych of new battlegrounds is the above pictured Blackout, a remake of Halo 2's Lockout map. As promised, Bungie has dropped details of the final map, including pics (hit up the gallery below) and an interview with four of the contributors to the project. The Legendary Map Pack is scheduled for release on April 15th for 800 points ($10) and, if it follows the basic model laid out by its Heroic predecessor, should be free-of-charge in roughly late July.

Nice, my favorite map, but i wouldve liked somethign else. I wouldve liked a real remake of blood gulch. Valhalla sucks so much. I wouldve also liked hang em high. I know that they released it for halo 2, but it was so late in the halo 2 life cycle nobody played it.

I am not normally a fan of buying DLC maps but this map looks amazing. The textures which someone above said "looked weird" are at most a little over done. I think the textures, colors, and grittiness are all well crafted. The overall look and feel looks amazing. I do wish the price point was closer to 400 points but free in the future is good. To bad I'm so addicted to other games right now.
Looks great Go Bungie. Can't wait to see your next project. Here's hoping for a new orignal IP.

This map looks so awesome! Very excited for the new map pack. Lockout was on my favorites in 2. The Heroic pack was good, but this will be a major step up.

Looks pretty nice. Very nice. Lockout was a great map. I just wish that Microsoft would lighten up on the pricing... though I'll still buy it anyways.
I really, really hope that for future Halo games (there WILL be future games) that they do something that is essentially randomly decided variations on the same maps. An example: Before the game starts it randomly chooses between High Ground night or day, stormy or clear. It would really add re-playability to the maps and wouldn't necessarily take up that much more space/power. Also, for the night maps, it would be pretty sweet if one could shoot out lights. They wouldn't have to remain shot out, but they could blink back in to existence after a reasonable amount of time.

I hate to be the party pooper here, but doesn't anyone else have a problem paying $10 for REMAKES?! I'd expect more original maps for that scratch, not just a bunch of old maps that where played to death before.

I don't have a 360 at the moment, but I agree. As much as I like Sidewinder, it is a bit much. I know a friend of mine will end up buying the map pack and we'll play on Avalanche and probably have a ton of fun doing it, but getting charged for maps they took out, even though people loved them, but are now adding back in, is kind of lame.

In a nutshell, Mike, No; I don't have a problem paying $10.00 for remakes, especially one that includes Sidewinder.

It costs $10 for for a gallon of milk and a box of Golden Grahams, so yeah, I think I can swing it.

People bitched when it was 3 original maps AND forge for $10. Now people are all about 3 maps (2 are remakes, even) for the same $10. What gives?
Still, I saved myself $10 last time and will save $10 more this time.

Uh Bungie said in their last weekly update they had no plans to make the Legendary DLC free.
"When will the Legendary Map Pack be free?
We are not currently aware of any plans to release the Legendary Maps for free."

Which also doesn't say it won't be free but maybe MS said don't say it will be free so people will actually buy it....

For most people, however, Guardian (while being one of my favorite Halo 3 maps) is nowhere near the perfection that is Lockout.

I liked Halo 2's prices of $3,95 per map pack instead of $10.

I guess it being a remake might be considered lame but they can't always make a good map. I'd rather have a great map remade than pay for three new maps that are so-so. Halo 2 was/is the best of the bunch for online play and map design so why not take from the best? halo 3 has too many bells and whistles IMO. Too many grenade types, shields, land mines and on and on. Forge and theater are what kept the review scores equal to the first two Halos.

as I never played sidewinder on halo 1, avalanche may as well be new to me. as a result, I'll now be gleefully splashing out on this pack.
I just hope the integration to the online lobby is better- the last effort was shit.

Am I the only one who is the most excited about the sidewinder remake? Playing that map online for the PC was so much fun for the deadlocked rocket CTF games.
Not saying that PC is better just that it had halo 1 online and that sidewinder was awesome there, also rocket games are FTW.

Lockout wasnt worth contributing to the hype at all! This version of lockout is more appealing and less depressing to look at.
