"The game is easily 100 hours,"

So one play through is 30 minutes?

I have spent over 125 hours on my first character in Oblivion, and I still pick it up and play on that character at times. I've seen the speed runs of Morrowind and Oblivion, but I don't consider that to be an acceptable way to judge length. I think their claims are completely plausible, but if you aren't playing for the experience and are just grinding to the finish - well why are you playing that kind of game at all?

This makes me anticipate Fallout 3 even more highly. Feel free not to buy it if you don't agree.

You might wanna correct the picture. According to your 0.05%, there will be over 2000 endings, not 200.
200 would be 0.5%.

Joystiq writers should need to take basic math. 1 out of 200 is .5%, not .05%.

And don't try to play it off like you meant to do that. You just just never took a basic math class.

According to my calculator, 1 out of 200 is actually 0.005, so actually, both you and Joystiq fail math.

percentages are essentially hundredths themselves, so 1 two-hundredth is a half of a hundredth, and therefore half of a percent. .5% = .005 = 1/200

The 200 endings are problemly minor and semi-minor variations of-- still a ton, but vastly less-- true endings. Different characters with you, etc.

Ending: 176 - character in distance is holding a green object
Ending: 177 - character in distance is holding a red object
This of course, is based upon coming across a green or red object more often throughout the game.

I'm hoping they can tie it all in right, thus being amazing.

I have been waiting patiently for this game since it was announced. I like the cool art style on the website. The little comic type characters remind me of the Bioshock plasmid animations. I think this game is going to be incredible. This is not because it is made by Bethesda but because the other Fallout games were so sick. In other words, I am not hyping it because it is made by the people who brought us Oblivion but because of the content and previous games.... As much as I want to play this game I still want MGS 4 & Gran Turismo 1 Billion times more.... Those are the greatest franchises of all time IMO... Fallout 3 is in my top 5 anticipated unreleased titles of 2008.... PS Hot Shots Golf Out Of Bounds is incredible..... Just picked it up yesterday and it is a must buy for any PS3 owner... Same as MLB 08 The Show for PS3 owners and baseball fans....

Forgive if this is trolling but I have something to get off my chest and I do not know where else to post this....

Just a suggestion to future online games from Nintendo.... I am already getting sick of playing Brawl because 2/3 of the people I added from Joystiq never added me or never play online and there is no matchmaking or ranked matches... I mean what is the point of playing online if there is no true rankings system?... I am not big on chatting with strangers but it would be nice in this instance to get a random players friend code... I know the PS3 gets a bad wrap for its online component (rightfully so although improvements are promised to come soon) but the Nintendo Wii's online component are pathetic... They also need to release a HDD especially if they plan on selling VC & Wii Ware content beyond a few games to me... I refuse to buy SD cards and swap out stuff to my memory and SD card when I want to play content... Its one thing to have memory cards its an entire different thing to have them on SD cards without the ability to launch said content from said memory....

Again I am sorry to anyone who reads this as trolling but I always hear how the Wii is so revolutionary and it is a next gen system alongside the 360 & PS3 but in reality its still in a premature state in comparison to the PS3 and waaaaaaaaay behind the Live... Just had to get that off my chest

/Rant & Trolling

McPoop: The character on the website looks like it's from Bioshock? It's the mascot from the first damn Fallout, there's nothing Bioshock about it.

And wtf with the random trolling.

I hope they cut down. I mean, does anybody besides me think this is overkill? I want this game, but if I can't get the "real" ending after 1 or 2 playthroughs, I'm not sure I want it. It's kind of like a "Choose your own adventure book" that you keep tabs on so you can go back and see all outcomes.

200 endings may be a little misleading.

For example, let's say you have the following scenarios;

Person A lives or dies.
Person B stays or leaves.
Either the orphanage blew up or you saved all the children.
Person C has one of 5 different feelings towards you at the end.
Main villain turns out to be either your mother, father, cousin, former landlord, or true love.

3 systems of 2 alternatives and 2 systems with 5 alternatives leaves you with 200 possible combinations of scenarios overall.

That is still pretty diverse, but it also means that the 200 endings are, of course, not incredibly unique... also, I have of course trivialized the possible plot points. I'm sure they will come up with much better story cliches.

Using Bethesda's metric, Fallout 1 had almost a thousand endings and Fallout 2 had over a million endings.

In true next gen fashion, you get less, but prettier.

That's really not a whole lot. So, for those of you "complaining" you won't get to see them all, it's no big deal. For those who think this is super badass, no it isn't.

Imagine a mere 5 unique sidequests, where the "ending" changes based on whether you helped a group, didn't help a group, or didn't meet them.

That's 3^5 "different endings" or 243.

Resounding meh, and a "This is an expected feature, not something you should brag about." to Bethesda.

Wow, i did the math and if you played this game 24 hours a day, it would take you 2.2 years to get all the endings, though it don't mind if someone gives a more accurate estimate, because i am a dope at math.

I think what it really means is that it's 50 variations of 4 distinct endings or something like that. It can't be 200 dramatically different endings.

Yeah your right... It has to be something related to items or people you have met and interacted with.... Just slight variations on endings... I think it makes a better press release to say they have over 200 endings... The game will be awesome but I am convinced there will be a core set of 4-10 endings with slight variations.... Your right on Superstar 90

Here's another one. 200 ways of customizing your character.

Each costume/character design is implemented into the same damn FMV ending. So 200 different costume customizations = 200 different ending FMVs.

@Arcaynn

Well he does make a valid point.... Judging from the size and the amount of endings I do not see this fitting on 1 DVD-9... I recently purchased Blue Dragon & Lost Odyssey and there are a combination of 8 discs.... Its not to far out of the question for this game to run on multiple discs on the 360 and 1 Blu-Ray on PS3... To be honest that doesn't mean the PS3 version is better and its not a huge deal to pop in another disc so long as its not that often.... But he makes a valid point wether you want to accept it or not..
