PS3 firmware 2.20 available now

If you've got more discerning theatrical tastes, the update offers other benefits like the ability to play bigger DivX files, Remote Play music with the PSP and Mosquito Noise Reduction (and just in time, too, the eternal flapping of their wings has become maddening). See what else you're getting right here.

EWW OMFG, I just updated this the day before last night and it took HOURS to freaking download. The sony has the worst servers EVER. OMG FUCK. The 360 takes what 10 whole seconds to download + install updates. The ps3 takes 8pm-11pm just to download them.
Tiptup300 @ Mar 25th 2008 4:07PM
Ok, I made a quick C# app to track time so I could figure out exactly how long it took. When it reached 1% it was currently at 00:03:20.4531250 (hrs:mins:seconds:milliseconds) , for FREAKING ONE PERCENT. It takes that time to install the firmware and load up the dashboard on the 360! You should have seen me the first day I got the ps3.

That's how long it took! That's how long it takes to just download a ps3 update. Sony, please fix it.
Omar @ Mar 25th 2008 9:13AM
Yeah, I downloaded this last night and even though I knew what this update was bringing to the table I still read through the release notes hoping I'd see "In game XMB".
John McPoop @ Mar 25th 2008 9:26AM
You didn't say "old omar downloaded this here updae...." Omar always has to talk in the 3rd person...
baby sea tuna @ Mar 25th 2008 9:28AM
Lol, you know that's right!
Omar @ Mar 25th 2008 9:28AM
Indeed.

So, how do we know which BRDs are 2.0? Cause I usually Netflix them, so I don't get the box.
Night Elve @ Mar 25th 2008 9:18AM
I already downloaded and installed this update, everything went just fine.
Now back to play PES!
John McPoop @ Mar 25th 2008 9:26AM
Downloading this now as well... I will probably not get much use out of it though...

Almost seems like a non-event...
Kind of like this post.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Zeon Defense Force) @ Mar 25th 2008 9:48AM
And yet despite that, someone has ALREADY done the whole "power of the cell" rant.
Ves @ Mar 25th 2008 10:01AM
I noticed that the blue lamp on the Playstation Eye doesn't stay on anymore when the PS3 is on stadby in Remote Start. It used to be on when I had it plugged in untill 2.17. Nice feature addition.
deaftly @ Mar 25th 2008 10:09AM
I think you can also rip Blurays to your psp with this firmware, not that I'll ever use it but still kinda cool.
kbomb1upc @ Mar 25th 2008 2:03PM
@deaftly
Portable Copy is not coming with this firmware update... It would have been cool anyways

Yes I know we can just install linux on the PS3 to solve that issues but guess what, not everyone who owns the PS3 is tech savvy. Sony needs to really understand the important of their browser feature of the PS3 and improve it.
I have a 60" DLP TV with full 1080p rez and would like to make it my ultimate internet experience yet I can't even view CNN.com (for example) properly. I even get this stupid error message stating something about out of memory, then the browser goes blank. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD... fix it!!! Give me and many other that are pissed Flash player 9.0
They say they are a true multimedia hub well prove it and fix the browser issues. Firmware 2.20 (the latest update) doesn't resolve this.
andyg8180 @ Mar 25th 2008 10:17AM
isnt this like the 50th update in 2 months? so confused... and the DLs take forever... Why not package them up every 6 months... and maybe compress the shit so that its quicker to DL...
Sir Fidlious Wong (Zeon Defense Force) @ Mar 25th 2008 10:19AM
With every update, I hear this. And so I timed it last night. a minute 23 seconds....
End of the fucking world, that.
Phranctoast @ Mar 25th 2008 10:27AM
I don't recall another update within the last two months...at all.
baby sea tuna @ Mar 25th 2008 10:35AM
Well, I don't recall an update that only took 23 seconds to d/l and install either...
Phranctoast @ Mar 25th 2008 10:39AM
83 seconds, and he didn't mention installing.
andyg8180 @ Mar 25th 2008 10:42AM
March 13th Firmware 2.17
Phranctoast @ Mar 25th 2008 10:43AM
my bad. after reading it again.
a minute defined could mean short period of time, and it could be read as "a short 23 seconds"
kbomb1upc @ Mar 25th 2008 2:06PM
@andyg8180
Ok...I may not be the best in math...but how did two updates in March become 50 in two month... Just asking.
Morbo @ Mar 25th 2008 3:30PM
I don't know dude, would you rather two sets of presents (birthday and Christmas), or a lump of both once a year? I prefer two. I wouldn't want to wait a Year for something I could've had immediately.
andyg8180 @ Mar 25th 2008 10:27AM
@Sir... im just saying... ive had a ps3 for 6 months and theres always some update coming out that really doesnt do much extra for it... oohh, pretty backgrounds, how about getting us some PSHome that was supposed to be released 7 years ago... I'm not really complaining, just suggesting...
And im sorry my internet connection isnt as super 133t as yours Sir Wong... You are the master of the internetz...
Phranctoast @ Mar 25th 2008 10:30AM
its quite amazing how suggesting and complaining sound so damn similar.......
kbomb1upc @ Mar 25th 2008 2:11PM
@andyg8180
So steady improvements to your PS3 is a bad thing? Oh...I guess you would get mad if your boss gave you an increase every month...and tell him "Can you just wait until the end of the year and package them together..."
...Please turn in your PS3 card sir...
andyg8180 @ Mar 25th 2008 3:50PM
@kbomb1upc
Fine you can have the stupid card... my ps3 collects dust anyways...waiting on MGS to come out...and then wait a half hour for the game to install on it... yepp... some card that is...
Ranus Studios @ Mar 25th 2008 1:40PM
I see "subtitles for DivX files." Are we talking OGM compatability here?
