Capcom debunks rumors of RE4 on PS3, 360

Resident Evil fansite The Horror is Alive caused a minor stir yesterday by posting a phonecam pic of the purported box art for a "Classic Edition" remake of Resident Evil 4 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The rumor got picked up by a variety of gaming sites -- including a somewhat incredulous Xbox 360 Fanboy -- and THIA followed it up today with supposed hi-res shots of the box art, adding further fuel to the fire.

Enter Capcom with a rumor-dousing fire blanket. Writing on Capcom's community forums, Vice President Christian Svennson said outright that there are "no plans for RE4 on 360 or PS3 at this time." Of course, that's exactly what he would say if there was a super-secret remake that Capcom just wasn't ready to announce yet. We'll take him at his word though, mostly because we hope the company is focusing its resources on Resident Evil 5 at this point. Besides, how many more remakes of a three-year-old game do we need exactly?

Thanks Capcom for not wasting your time and money on a game that would just look better. Instead, keep spending your time on RE5 for the REAL now-gen machines.

Its rare, but I think Ken has a reasonable statement somewhere in there.

I'd rather the time and effort of a port be put into RE5. Work on the new one instead of yet another re-release of the old one.

If there is anyone out there that hasn't bothered to play this masterpiece already then they deserve to be slapped around the face with a kipper!

Besides, for the money this would cost if they did make it you can probably get a used copy of the game and a Gamecube.

I never saw the "shock value" of this rumor. Would anyone have REALLY been surprised if they have recycled RE4 for yet another release on another system? Glad to hear they aren't going to that well again, however.

I loved RE4, one of my all time favorites. I want RE5 asap but if they had another team working on a reissue of RE4 for 360 at a budget price, HELL YEAH I would play it to hold me over till RE5!!!!! Bring it!

i wouldn't be surprised they did this...i mean they whored this game off on every other console...why not get the people that have refused to buy RE4 another go huh? lets get like 120 dollars from the 2 people who haven't played this over whored game

What's up with RE1 re-releases and remakes? Not that I love or would buy remakes but 2 and 3 just kind of got left behind.

RE1 had a remake because when Capcom was porting all the RE over to gamecube they didn't think that the PS1 version would look good enough. They then made the remake of RE1 but not RE2, 3, and CV because they had already made them on the dreamcast.

I would be ok with the idea of this being a download title on PSN. Although I don't own a PS3 I think it would be cool if they started adding PS2 games for download, like Xbox 360 has done with their original xbox titles.

The Wiimake was a real improvement in terms of controls, too bad we can't get the best of both worlds with IR aiming and enhanced HD graphics. Actually they could use that orange gun from that time crisis game or whatever. I'd buy it right away.

Most people can already play RE4 on PS3 with up-res, but I can see where the demand for a 360 version is coming from.

I've already owned the Gamecube one, I now own the Wii one, and I'd gladly pay for a 360 one including an overhauled graphics engine...damn right I would.

I think it would be a nice addition to 360's library with some polish and achievements it would make the wait for RE5 a little more bearable.

'Debunked' actually means jack nowadays until you see a big public announcement with the company signing this big legal document swearing never to ever make the said game ever.

they said they would never port resident evil 4 for the gamecube, and they didnt. they added a bunch of new content to it and repackaged it all together slipping through some nice loopholes and made a shit ton more money from it. remaking it yet again for the 360 and ps3 though i think would be a tad bit of overkill. no one gave a fuck when re3 and re2 were ported to gamecube cause you could have gotten them on n64, psone, pc, and dc by time that had happened.
