Ubisoft informs EuroGamer that Far Cry 2 will release in "autumn" this year. The game is currently in development at Ubisoft Montreal and this latest information narrows down the previous year-long release window of April to March of next year. Ubisoft also states a demo is likely for the game and that the title should release simultaneously for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
Given the impressive footage we've seen so far of the game, Far Cry 2 can take its time in development and keep upping the pretty. And you know, our summer is already looking pretty full.

Bigsofty have you even bothered to look up the information on this game?
It has no mutants and its not set on a tropical island, its a 50km squared bit of africa which is sandbox like GTA.
Think oblivion but with guns and 5x the size of the playing field.

bigsofty: Yup, I did too. It really wouldn't be that bad except for the infrequent save points, but it was definitely nothing special. The sequel look nice though, I just hope it has solid gameplay to match those gorgeous visuals.

Can't wait for that game. Between this and Fallout 3, I'll have a hard time making some time for other games, other hobbies, the wife, life...
DAMMIT!

lets hope it has a good map editor for the console versions. One of my favorite things about farcry instincs predator was the map editor. Still the best FPS console map editor I have ever used. Maps made rivaled the look and feel of a 1 player level if you took the time, unlike most FPS with level editors which just have you snapping pre-designed rooms *cough timesplittes cough*

It started off fun, but it got long and boring, not to mention a tough mofo. I also found the game play stiff, not sure if that makes sense or not. But it was a beauty to look at the environments though.

The original on PC was amazing! But with all the shambolic re-releases and rehashes (I'm looking at you Instincts, Evolution and Predator) I kinda feel the franchise is dead for me.
Ubisoft have killed the brand and are now just flogging a dead horse.

So they finally confirmed Crysis for 360?

So they claim this will release for all three platforms simultaneously, in that case take the date they gave and add at least 6 months (plus 2 more delays to be announced in a few months).

Could you people stop mocking correct use of language by non-Yanks? Autumn is the correct term, 'Fall' is a term coined by children who noticed that Autumn was when leaves fell off trees!!! :-O

This Fall? I can guarantee it won't happen.

I cant believe all the Far Cry Hate!!! Far Cry Defense Force HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
I agree that all the console iterations are bad. When the original came out it was pretty revolutionary. Best graphics of its time. Granted it, liked most games of its era, havent aged well. I have high hopes for this game but I am as optomistic as karmaghost on the release date. '09 I bet.

Far Cry 2 for consoles? Well, I had hope for it until that news. Now I know it'll have aliens or time travel or mutants or something now. Unless it has all the subtlety and grace of a summer blockbuster movie, it's not fit for consoles it seems.
A reasonable interface for people with a clue? Non-linear gameplay? Thought-requiring difficulty? The use of more key commands than one has fingers? All hopes dashed.
When you sell out to the console gaming community it becomes how big an orange Hollywood fireball you can make, how frequently can you have the character do something impossible in slo-mo cutscenes, and how many helper screen hints can you cram onto the screen.

It's a far cry from its origin.
