As predictable as adapting moody, atmospheric shooter BioShock into a movie is – hell, if they're squeezing a mobile game out of the "franchise" a movie hardly seems far-fetched – we weren't quite expecting to hear that owner Take-Two is considering a BioShock MMO as well. (Also listed as an "MMOG/Online Gaming" opportunity: Civilization.)
Maybe Take-Two's just really into alliteration and thought the two extra Ms made slide 24 – titled "Potential Untapped Opportunities" – of chairman Strauss Zelnick's presentation at the 2008 Smid Cap Conference today that much more attractive? Or maybe it wanted to show shareholders that Take-Two has everything it needs to compete with the likes of EA in-house, including big-name brands that can be milked to exhaustion. Might we suggest sure-to-be-lucrative BioShock Big Daddy mittens ... or perhaps BioShock "Plasmid brand" malted milk balls ...

Wait, are you trying to tell me that Take 2.. is just another corporation? Perhaps even suggesting that the only difference between them and EA is size and visibility?

Jesus fuck, they wanna kill the poor fuckin franchise. leave it as is, make a sequal and build upon that. when companies start tampering with a games name thats when it can and usually does lose merit. taking soemthing out of the original mold is always risky. granted the payoff can be good cause then you have a franchise that goes across multiple genres but at what cost? A movie for it would be interesting but you know that they wouldnt do it right so why even bother? Doom? dead or alive? house of the dead? alone in the dark? and those movies are within the past few years and were all epic failures.

The headline says "BioShock MMO, mobile, and movie are 'potential opportunities'"
If Ea had bought them the headline would say "BioShock MMO, mobile, and movie sequels confirmed"

Bioshock MMO would be the death of the franchise. Why would anyone want to do that to something that's completely story based? Anyways, there's only so much Bioshock plot potential, after the first sequel they should just come up with something new in the same vein and have it labeled as "from the makers of Bioshock" so things don't get stale. Of course, I hope we never see "Ken Levine's" used like "Sid Meier's" or "American McGee's" but it could be good promotion as long as the game was actually good.
On the other hand, Civilization MMO would be the most epic win imaginable and absolutely must happen. It would seriously pwn. I'm just afraid it might be a little too complex for the casual player (look's lovingly at book sized Civ 3 manual).

Hey, I don't think it would be so bad to have an MMO based on Bioshock. Sure they could do it wrong, but if they set it before 'the fall', or as the fall is beginning, it could be interesting. That way you could have a semi-functional society with lots of people getting uber genetic abilities, but in many areas of the world you can see this society beginning to collapse. If done right, they could fill it with lots of extra context to the single player game.

i think if they ever really honestly wanted to take bioshock anywhere and actually do something worthwhile with it would be to do something like fallout. those 2 go together hand in hand are are pretty fuckin similar if you have played through both all the way. otherwise people are gonna laugh at it and chuck it into a fire, and then when it comes time for a full fledged sequel, then they have lost part of their audience and so the downward spiral continues. *dun dun dun* dramatic reverb

A Bioshock movie would be fantastic... The idea of a Bioshock MMO sounds promising but it would have to happen outside of the rapture universe... I like the movie idea... imagine Will Smith killing a big daddy.. LMAO

I'm worried enough as it is about the bioshock sequel, do they already need to start talking about the other spin offs?

Its only just released :O Lots of gamers still don't know what Bioshock is, compared to the likes of Mario and whatnot, let alone the world.
Are producers desperate for ideas or something.
The movie industry is slowly drifting away, it used to be movies were made out of well known games, like an honour, not every game in sight. Is this what it takes? In that case, where the hell is the Resistance, Smash Brothers, Soul Calibur and Kirby movie?

Please no. I LOVE this game. This is a sad site. Hopefully the sequel just references the first and isn't directly connected.

I'm actually worried the sequel / prequel will somehow spoil the first, much like Matrix Reloded and Revolution ruined the status created by Matrix.

The only directors that could pull off a Bioshock movie are David Fincher or Tim Burton...

Bioshock's story and game style would make for an interesting MMO. The powers are RPG analogous, and spiritually it has more in common with Oblivion than Halo 3 or CoD4.
The idea gives me a geekgasm, but the chances of it being good are slim. For me it only has to be almost as good as WoW, but those are big shoes to fill.

I absolutely loved this game and pray to the video game gods that they don't ruin it by going overboard. Put all your efforts into making another Bioshock that is just as amazing as the first. Who needs another VERY crappy video game movie or the MMO. This is one game that shouldn't be turned into an MMO!
