Milk it! BioShock MMO, mobile, and movie are 'potential opportunities'
As predictable as adapting moody, atmospheric shooter BioShock into a movie is – hell, if they're squeezing a mobile game out of the "franchise" a movie hardly seems far-fetched – we weren't quite expecting to hear that owner Take-Two is considering a BioShock MMO as well. (Also listed as an "MMOG/Online Gaming" opportunity: Civilization.)
Maybe Take-Two's just really into alliteration and thought the two extra Ms made slide 24 – titled "Potential Untapped Opportunities" – of chairman Strauss Zelnick's presentation at the 2008 Smid Cap Conference today that much more attractive? Or maybe it wanted to show shareholders that Take-Two has everything it needs to compete with the likes of EA in-house, including big-name brands that can be milked to exhaustion. Might we suggest sure-to-be-lucrative BioShock Big Daddy mittens ... or perhaps BioShock "Plasmid brand" malted milk balls ...

Wait, are you trying to tell me that Take 2.. is just another corporation? Perhaps even suggesting that the only difference between them and EA is size and visibility?
Balderdash! Balderdash and poppycock.
AlphaOmegaSin @ Mar 26th 2008 7:04PM
Jesus fuck, they wanna kill the poor fuckin franchise. leave it as is, make a sequal and build upon that. when companies start tampering with a games name thats when it can and usually does lose merit. taking soemthing out of the original mold is always risky. granted the payoff can be good cause then you have a franchise that goes across multiple genres but at what cost? A movie for it would be interesting but you know that they wouldnt do it right so why even bother? Doom? dead or alive? house of the dead? alone in the dark? and those movies are within the past few years and were all epic failures.
ApolloIV @ Mar 26th 2008 7:09PM
And EA hasn't bought them yet?
Mr.ESC @ Mar 26th 2008 7:26PM
The headline says "BioShock MMO, mobile, and movie are 'potential opportunities'"
If Ea had bought them the headline would say "BioShock MMO, mobile, and movie sequels confirmed"
Mr Khan @ Mar 26th 2008 7:20PM
This is the sort of thing Take Two "needs" to do in order to avoid that EA hostile takeover
Sad? Yes. But when you're watching the sharks eying your company, you do whatever you need to to keep from sliding into the water
Mr.ESC @ Mar 26th 2008 7:22PM
What about the lunchbox, the brakfast cereal and the flamethrower (Kids will love it)?
Mr.ESC @ Mar 26th 2008 7:23PM
I meant breakfast. Typos are more frequent if you eat while you type.
REUYL @ Mar 26th 2008 7:30PM
Ain't it a little late to be eating bra-... breakfast?
DangerMouse @ Mar 26th 2008 7:31PM
Why don't you have a seat?
Lone Starr @ Mar 26th 2008 7:33PM
Typos while eating? You wouldn't have to eat as often with the Bioshock© Extra Nutrition 3™-equipped Power Breakfast©®™!!!!
Available at grocery stores and GameStops everywhere.
Mr.ESC @ Mar 26th 2008 7:49PM
Lone starr but what if I'm thristy?
Should I drink a Little Sister energy drink which gives you the energy of a Big daddy! and pwn at halo (Avalible in Gamestop,Wal.mart and Kmart)?
343 Guilty Fart @ Mar 26th 2008 8:12PM
Now with more Little Sisters, also in Chipotle and BBQ flavor!!!
SoxFan13 @ Mar 27th 2008 6:46AM
I would buy an EVE energy drink... once.
Loki_d20 @ Mar 26th 2008 8:10PM
I'm guessing this MMOG will be something more along the lines of Hellgate and not WoW/EQ/DAoC/AoC/WHO/CoX/etc.
KeenCommander @ Mar 26th 2008 8:20PM
Bioshock MMO would be the death of the franchise. Why would anyone want to do that to something that's completely story based? Anyways, there's only so much Bioshock plot potential, after the first sequel they should just come up with something new in the same vein and have it labeled as "from the makers of Bioshock" so things don't get stale. Of course, I hope we never see "Ken Levine's" used like "Sid Meier's" or "American McGee's" but it could be good promotion as long as the game was actually good.
On the other hand, Civilization MMO would be the most epic win imaginable and absolutely must happen. It would seriously pwn. I'm just afraid it might be a little too complex for the casual player (look's lovingly at book sized Civ 3 manual).
Ted @ Mar 27th 2008 9:04AM
Hey, I don't think it would be so bad to have an MMO based on Bioshock. Sure they could do it wrong, but if they set it before 'the fall', or as the fall is beginning, it could be interesting. That way you could have a semi-functional society with lots of people getting uber genetic abilities, but in many areas of the world you can see this society beginning to collapse. If done right, they could fill it with lots of extra context to the single player game.
AlphaOmegaSin @ Mar 26th 2008 8:27PM
i think if they ever really honestly wanted to take bioshock anywhere and actually do something worthwhile with it would be to do something like fallout. those 2 go together hand in hand are are pretty fuckin similar if you have played through both all the way. otherwise people are gonna laugh at it and chuck it into a fire, and then when it comes time for a full fledged sequel, then they have lost part of their audience and so the downward spiral continues. *dun dun dun* dramatic reverb
John McPoop @ Mar 26th 2008 8:37PM
A Bioshock movie would be fantastic... The idea of a Bioshock MMO sounds promising but it would have to happen outside of the rapture universe... I like the movie idea... imagine Will Smith killing a big daddy.. LMAO
Qvantamon @ Mar 26th 2008 9:56PM
As predictable as adapting moody, atmospheric shooter BioShock into a movie
Not Uwe Boll... PLEASE GOD not Uwe Boll!
Benny @ Mar 26th 2008 9:07PM
They should do an action figure!
Mischa @ Mar 26th 2008 9:10PM
Best photoshop ever.
I'm worried enough as it is about the bioshock sequel, do they already need to start talking about the other spin offs?
Citanuzuki @ Mar 26th 2008 9:08PM
I want to see big daddy and the Kool-Aid guy fight.
ugg.tryptophan @ Mar 26th 2008 10:58PM
oh yeah!
Maverick Saturn @ Mar 26th 2008 9:39PM
Its only just released :O Lots of gamers still don't know what Bioshock is, compared to the likes of Mario and whatnot, let alone the world.
Are producers desperate for ideas or something.
The movie industry is slowly drifting away, it used to be movies were made out of well known games, like an honour, not every game in sight. Is this what it takes? In that case, where the hell is the Resistance, Smash Brothers, Soul Calibur and Kirby movie?
Deck @ Mar 26th 2008 10:39PM
Not surprising... I hate this milking trend though. It drives me crazy.
Though the one good thing is that it may keep T2 from being absorbed by EA...maybe. It may have their shareholders hold out for awhile longer.
Dan CiTi @ Mar 26th 2008 11:48PM
Please no. I LOVE this game. This is a sad site. Hopefully the sequel just references the first and isn't directly connected.
Maverick Saturn @ Mar 26th 2008 11:56PM
I'm actually worried the sequel / prequel will somehow spoil the first, much like Matrix Reloded and Revolution ruined the status created by Matrix.
Buttnuggett @ Mar 27th 2008 12:23AM
The only directors that could pull off a Bioshock movie are David Fincher or Tim Burton...
Auboa @ Mar 27th 2008 1:21AM
Here's hoping it doesn't completely ruin the franchise. If wishes were horses though....
Synergistic @ Mar 27th 2008 7:26AM
You'd be making horse porn? What?
Synergistic @ Mar 27th 2008 7:21AM
Bioshock's story and game style would make for an interesting MMO. The powers are RPG analogous, and spiritually it has more in common with Oblivion than Halo 3 or CoD4.
The idea gives me a geekgasm, but the chances of it being good are slim. For me it only has to be almost as good as WoW, but those are big shoes to fill.
Ted @ Mar 27th 2008 9:06AM
But Bioshock itself is pretty much a sequel itself... To System Shock. Lots of ideas borrowed in Bioshock. Just a different setting (steampunk instead of cyberpunk, as zeropunctuation puts it).
Kassu @ Mar 27th 2008 10:38AM
I didn't like Bioshock at all, so i don't really care.
*Casts flame barrier*
Firegirl @ Mar 27th 2008 11:59AM
I absolutely loved this game and pray to the video game gods that they don't ruin it by going overboard. Put all your efforts into making another Bioshock that is just as amazing as the first. Who needs another VERY crappy video game movie or the MMO. This is one game that shouldn't be turned into an MMO!

I'd figure the Big Daddy would be the one doing milking.
