The God of War PSP bundle looks like this

We consider packaging to be quite effective when you can tell at a glance just what awaits you inside of it. Take this God of War Entertainment Pack, for example. There's the "Deep Red" PSP, the Superbad UMD, the critically praised God of War: Chains of Olympus and ... well, there's also a PSN voucher for Syphon Filter: Combat Ops, which isn't pictured. To be fair, that's simply due to the lack of excitement incurred by a piece of paper with some obscure code on it.
Also not pictured is the price tag of $199.99 and, perhaps most importantly, a disappointing label which reads, "Not for sale until June."

not bad for 199. considering MP3 players do half of what this does and cost the same or more
Mills and Boom @ Mar 26th 2008 5:34AM
Don't forget to add a memory card on top of this. Seriously now Sony are being complete knob knees by not including a memory card in the European PSP Slims.
My £130 purchase was shot up to £170 for 4gb. Would have been 230 with an 8gb card. sheeeesh.
ZeroCorpse @ Mar 26th 2008 12:26PM
MP3 players are also up to 1/16 the size of a PSP. Seriously, what adult would carry this around as their media device?
It's a game console. It's not ideal as a portable media device because of the cost of Memory Sticks, the size of the device, and the awkwardness of getting media into it. It's great if you have time to waste converting, dragging, and dropping into an archaic file structure, but for people who have things to do, it's hardly a convenient device.
As a game console, it's catching up. If only they had designed it with two analog sticks...
I've owned four PSPs (not at the same time) since launch. I've never loved it enough to keep it for very long, though.

it really looks like it was made in photoshop
it really really does
Owyn @ Mar 26th 2008 1:35AM
You must be terrible at Photoshop.
Fukanzen @ Mar 26th 2008 1:37AM
Well i'm positive the image wasn't made in Soundforge, that's for certain.

Of course not, those warm tones are indicative of Cakewalk.
alhogar @ Mar 26th 2008 1:41AM
So if the box shows the standard full-size retail packages for the UMD movie and the GOW game...that means they are putting the regular plastic boxes in there, right? Not the cheap little cardboard disc sleeves?
lorderk @ Mar 26th 2008 1:42AM
says Combat Ops on the side of the box...so it is pictured...kinda
Nelly @ Mar 26th 2008 2:30AM
I expected better packaging... Something like how Japan has their bundle. This is too cheap looking just like the Daxter and Vader set.
jorojoserojas @ Mar 26th 2008 2:38AM
Only $199.99, eh? Looks like it's time for me to finally pick up a PSP.
Velops @ Mar 26th 2008 2:39AM
Despite being bundled with a testosterone laden GoW game, the nail polish red color seems too feminine.
Kuro @ Mar 26th 2008 2:41AM
dont forget PSP fanboys out there: DS is the harbinger of doom. hahaha. but I cant wait till this comes out I'm definitely buying this.
vgxtremist @ Mar 26th 2008 2:58AM
Man this and Crisis Core have so suddenly interested in a PSP now...I'm a happy DS owner too.
Mars @ Mar 26th 2008 7:30AM
PSP 2000 or PSP Slim. After hearing about the kid who's PSP melted in his pocket I'd rather get the one he didn't.
borland502 (SDF - Macross Ring) @ Mar 26th 2008 7:53AM
Since this isn't out yet, I'll venture to say that this model isn't. But Sony battery jokes aside, you probably carry a few devices around that have the potential to do that exploding, melting, shorting bit.
Just wait until they get those nano wires in there and multiply the capacity 10x. You'll be able to play all day as long as you don't sneeze.
Spilt_Milk @ Mar 26th 2008 7:58AM
So this is how Sony sells pink psp's to American boys?
Genius!
Kodros @ Mar 26th 2008 12:17PM
I don't get it...
baby sea tuna @ Mar 26th 2008 8:30AM
Boo, bad timing. If this had come out with the game, I'd have bought it in a second. Since it didn't, I just picked up GoW and borrowed my friend's PSP to play it on. Too bad too, because this would have been a system (re)seller for me.
LionheartAce @ Mar 26th 2008 8:34AM
How unexciting.
KeenCommander @ Mar 26th 2008 9:16AM
Flamboyant, much? Still, if it sells PSP's I guess it can't be a bad thing. Because we all know, some people do want their game systems to look gaudy as hell. It's not a bad deal, anyways.
Anni (Smash FC: 0946-1930-4929) @ Mar 26th 2008 11:18AM
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait...
they still have UMDs? Weird.
SaraAB87 @ Mar 26th 2008 11:51AM
Memory card costs have really come down, if you catch a sale you can get a 4gb for around 40$ which is the same price as SD cards.
ZeroCorpse @ Mar 26th 2008 12:37PM
So for 4GB + the device, you're spending $240 or more?
For that you could get a decent iPhone or iPod touch that plays games, does Internet, email, maps, youtube, music, videos AND has a better screen and syncs automatically.
No, they're not Sony games, but then, some of us don't particularly care about Sony's franchises.
I'm not saying I have a preference. I'm mostly pointing out that the PSP is overpriced, and has been for a long time now. It's WAY OVERDUE for this device to get a severe price drop, and an included 2GB Memory Stick would be nice, too.
FSK405K @ Mar 26th 2008 12:53PM
When that comes out, it might finally be worth investigating whether to get a PSP. I hear there's a few good games if you look hard enough: Pirates, FF Tactics, Patapon.
whymog @ Mar 26th 2008 2:32PM
Ludwig, your dumb headlines like this give me so much joy. :D

I do. I keep it in my pocket most times, and I use it as a Game Console, a Media Device, and a Storage Unit. Walk to the train station listening to music. get on the train, switch to games. get off the train, back to music. get to work, plug in the USB to a computer, use it as a flash drive for work related files.
i don't have any problems with it, really. I dunno about this supposed "awkwardness" of putting media onto the memory stick. it is rather seamless for me, using the Media Manager.
now i will agree that the memory sticks are a bit expensive.
but other than that, I can't say i agree with much you are saying here.
