Turok to get five new multiplayer maps tomorrow

Well, by "five" maps, we really should say "two," because one is a new co-op map and two are re-lit versions of already available maps. But three maps for $10 seems to be the standard now, so we're not complaining. No, what puzzles us is this: We know it's not one of the big guns, but is anybody playing Turok online? Is this a gem we missed out on?
Side note from that same release: Expect the PC version of the game to arrive on April 22 for $50.

And people compalins for Square Enix DLC in WiiWare.
Shagittarius @ Mar 26th 2008 6:04PM
I don't think there are enough people playing to populate all those maps simultaneously.
Liquid Ocelot (call me Liquid) @ Mar 26th 2008 6:09PM
The Square Enix DLC on the wii is ridculous. This is $5 for 5 maps (not that i'm defending it, Turok blows). I don't see how you can complain. The only thing worse than the Square Enix DLC is the Ace Combat 6 DLC....
Kodros @ Mar 26th 2008 7:30PM
@Fernando - Theres a big difference between DLC that is available at the games release and DLC that comes out almost 2 months after it was released.
NATO_Duke @ Mar 26th 2008 6:05PM
Did someone buy Turok? C'mon - fess up!
AlphaOmegaSin @ Mar 26th 2008 6:06PM
well all 3 people that bought the steaming pile of shit will be very glad to hear about this :D
Hyams @ Mar 26th 2008 6:33PM
It's an average game. Averages does not equal "steaming pile of shit".
(Although, it's amazing how many 'hardcore' gamers don't seem to understand that.)
Mills and Boom @ Mar 26th 2008 8:26PM
Almost right.
It's good on the PS3 since theres not much good to compare it against.
It's very bad on the 360 since it's the lower end of ratings.
Shmil (Brawl Code 2621-2310-1994) @ Mar 26th 2008 6:08PM
does anyone even care?
Shmil (Brawl Code 2621-2310-1994) @ Mar 26th 2008 8:44PM
well... it was better than timeshift, i'll give it that
Lone Starr @ Mar 26th 2008 6:24PM
This seems a little soon. It can't be a good indication for the game's longevity.
Lone Starr @ Mar 26th 2008 6:25PM
Then again, the fact that it's a Turok game doesn't help it either.
ComicShaman @ Mar 26th 2008 6:29PM
"Is this a gem we missed out on?"
It's more like a kidney stone than a gem, guys. Remember that scene in the first Jurassic Park where Laura Dern sticks her arm all the way up to the shoulder in a giant steaming pile of dinosaur poo? That's a good metaphor for Turok.
Anticrawl @ Mar 26th 2008 6:36PM
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Turok.
*Puts game in tray*
Awww........
*sobs and pulls gun out of desk drawer*
Anticrawl @ Mar 26th 2008 6:38PM
@Lone Starr
You sir are an ass. Turok is an incredible game. This perticular interation brings shame to the Son of Stone but if he were to hear you say that he'd weep a tear of justice before stomping on you while mounted on his dinosaur.
Lone Starr @ Mar 26th 2008 6:46PM
Good sir, while I do not dispute that I am an ass, realize the comment was in jest. I wouldn't want to offend the great Son of Stone.
Anticrawl @ Mar 26th 2008 6:50PM
Bah, all that posting on sister sites has me forgetting how to work the freakin comment system.
Anticrawl @ Mar 26th 2008 6:39PM
Just to clarify the new Turok is aweful and is Turok in nothing but the name.
*Breaks out his old Turok comics and squeels with joy*
Anticrawl @ Mar 26th 2008 6:49PM
Haha, the Son of Stone is all about forgiveness.
Anyway seriously though, it's cool.
AlphaOmegaSin @ Mar 26th 2008 6:52PM
well while you may squeel qith joy at the pretty awesome comics this doesnt excuse the fact that its a botched title. you may like the franchise its based off of but that doesnt make it a good game. and yes since its is infact a turok game and the last 3 they made just got worse as it went along, was a good indication of what youd be expecting. when i aim and fire and the gun goes fuckin batshit cause of kickback means theres something wrong, turok has arms about the size of ATV's yet the silly shit cant hold a gun right? wtf. besides that it just wasnt fun online really, especially considering its got shit like COD4 to deal with.
DB @ Mar 26th 2008 7:00PM
Raise your hand if you insulted Turok in this thread and only played the demo.
*watches everyone raise their hands*
Yeah ... maybe a couple of you actually played through all of the game and played a good chunk of the online, but I'm betting most of you who insult this game have absolutely no clue, and base all your opinions on forum posts.
This game is actually extremely underrated. It's not the deepest, most unique FPS on the planet, but it's a lot of fun and the multiplayer is surprisingly good. It also provides a great challenge - something most gamers can't handle nowadays.
Oh, and to those of you who mention the 'three' people who bought this game - it was announced today that it broke the one million sales mark. Don't believe me? Google it. Which means it'll almost surely be getting sequel treatment - whether you like it or not :)
Don't post your opinions unless they're actually informed.
jman @ Mar 26th 2008 11:08PM
i agree...except with the mutiplayer..all it was, was everyone trying to get cheap knife kills on everyone else....
jman @ Mar 26th 2008 7:00PM
umm...is it just me or did i play a different turok tahn everone else??
cuz the turok i played was decent at best...but still not as bad as everyone seems to protray it here....yea the multiplayer sucked major ball sack but the campaign was fun enough...
AlphaOmegaSin @ Mar 26th 2008 7:08PM
well as for playing the demo, i played through the 1 player story and then online for awhile, it lacked polish and honestly you can ride its dick all day but in the end theres much more robust titles out there that offer alot more, whats this got for us? dinos....oh boy, and what else? seriously tell me? it was and always will be an average game, sorry but for 60$ i expect something a tad better, especially when theyre trying to pull together a franchise that was seemingly broken from 2 generations ago.
PojoMofo @ Mar 26th 2008 7:09PM
I am calling bullshit on the Turok Defense force. I played 2 hours of that game, then took it back to Blockbuster. COD4, Halo, Bioshock, and Orange Box has spoiled me, to the point where it is hard to tolorate crap like this. I would rather play Soldier of Fortune Payback than Turok, that is how low I am on Turok
slipknot0129 @ Mar 26th 2008 8:46PM
i got to buy these maps when i get my 360 working,i play turok all the time.
Bizzy @ Mar 26th 2008 9:18PM
too bad your still playing turok though
josh @ Mar 26th 2008 9:55PM
Check my review of this title:
http://z15.invisionfree.com/Monsterland_Forum/index.php?showtopic=537&st=15
I played through the entire campaign and quite a bit of the multiplayer...I feel this review is pretty fair and competent but let me know what you think.
The review is on a messageboard so you will need to scroll the page down a bit.
DB @ Mar 26th 2008 10:47PM
Thank you for proving my point PojoMofo - two hours is not enough time to get a true feel for a game, no matter how much you want to think so. There are plenty of 'watercooler' moments involving dinosaurs later in the game, as well as some great boss fights, some great levels .... and I haven't mentioned the co-op levels are a blast as well. Wickedly challenging - they really had me coming back for more.
As I said - get back to me when you actually play a significant portion of the game.
Josh - great review. Not just because I agree with it (very much so, actually). You actually sound unbiased. Good stuff.
JAH75157 @ Mar 26th 2008 11:19PM
turok on the 64 > most games still.
I refuse to admit any other turok game exists other than that one.
hvnlysoldr @ Apr 14th 2008 1:50AM
The only thing I pay tribute to Turok is this feeling Retro Studios was founded by a creepy exec who helped make Turok.
