Track your GTA IV stats with Rockstar Games Social Club
Taking a cue from Bungie's stat-a-riffic Bungie.net service, Rockstar Games has just announced the Rockstar Games Social Club, "a new website that will extend your experience of Grand Theft Auto IV and all future Rockstar Games titles." Line up against the Club's stanchions at rockstargames.com/socialclub and be ready for registration on April 15th. All you'll need is a Xbox Live gamertag and/or a PSN ID and an insatiable hunger for statistics. You've got one of those, right?
Once GTA IV launches, the site will offer the usual multiplayer leaderboards, along with a torrent of statistically generated functionality. The LCPD Police Blotter will show the most dangerous areas of Liberty City and the most commonly used weapons, using the "aggregated data of millions of connected players." Similarly, the Liberty City Marathon will catalog the "the amount of miles walked, driven, or swam -- to the number of bullets fired and stunt-jumps jumped" and will hold competitions amongst players using this data. Other sections will track players who complete 100% of the game (they can win an "ultra-rare" bit of swag); a Hall of Fame, tracking the various leaderboard champs; and The Story Gang, a "single-player leaderboard." Consider us interested. You could consider us even more interested if we knew the first thing about the game's multiplayer functionality, outside of the occasional rumor.

- LCPD Police Blotter -- A virtual map and tracker of single-player criminal activity logged in Liberty City from the aggregated data of millions of connected players - showing the most dangerous areas of town, most commonly used weapons and more.
- The Story Gang -- This special single-player leaderboard recognizes players who complete Niko Bellic's main story arc of Grand Theft Auto IV - The leaderboard ranks players according to the total amount of playing time it's taken to complete the story, as well as a historical rank by who has completed it first. Members of this club will receive special online widgets and merit badges marking all of their in-game accomplishments.
- The 100% Club -- Watch to see who will be the first to complete 100% of the game. The first ten people to be identified on the Social Club as reaching 100% will be sent an ultra-rare commemorative 'key to the city' to mark their accomplishment. In the future, the 100% Club will then carry a historical leaderboard showing rankings of who has completed 100% of a game in the shortest span of playing hours.
- The Hall of Fame -- This area will dynamically recognize those singularly elite players who have reached the top of the hill on various statistical leaderboards, and will also contain a personal awards display of special in-game landmarks and successes in Social Club competitions.
- The Liberty City Marathon -- A ranking of special physical milestones achieved in the game - from the amount of miles walked, driven, or swam - to the number of bullets fired and stunt-jumps jumped. There will be additional special marathon-based competitions in the future from this area as well.

Yes you'll be running around in circles for like five minutes
Omar @ Mar 27th 2008 5:09PM
With all these multiplayer features ol' Omar is gonna have a tough time neglecting the online game to play the single player campaign at all
copa @ Mar 27th 2008 5:37PM
Omar and Brother Mouzone both need to be characters in GTA4.
veto @ Mar 27th 2008 5:13PM
great idea but extremely unfair to those who dont recive the game early , like that top 10 leaderboard will most likely be full of .
quickshade @ Mar 27th 2008 5:13PM
wow, this game is either going to be completely awesome or completely badass.
Benny @ Mar 27th 2008 5:15PM
Just so you know, the 'yoofs' will infer those two things to mean the same.
Benny @ Mar 27th 2008 5:14PM
If this is anything like my local social club, I won't be taking part. Sweatiness and Bananarama 'classics' just aren't my bag.

How long do you think it will take for the "free" United States media to start bashing this game?
A. Day of release
B. 1 week after release
C. Before the release
D. They will praise this game and tell us to stop watching TV and go KILL some Hookers.
makishima @ Mar 27th 2008 5:22PM
I dream of a world where D would be the correct answer.

I know all about the multiplayer modes in GTA IV now. Just read all about it in the new Official XBOX magazine that arrived in the mail today. I am a HUGE GTA fan, and am actually playing through VC again right now. I was not really looking forward to GTA online, as it has always been a single player game for me. But these modes look GREAT. Check out the May issue for seven or eight pages of GTA Online goodness.
J @ Mar 27th 2008 5:21PM
This is all well and good, but where's my new trailer?

There my friend. Remember your tissues... I was unprepared.
apotheos @ Mar 27th 2008 5:35PM
So how do I opt out of providing my game statistics to Rockstar?
Not to be a privacy nut, but these things should be optional and clearly described so that users can be educated on how they communicate with the publisher.
amart @ Mar 27th 2008 6:36PM
thats pointless, quit looking for a problem
ComradeTrotskii @ Mar 27th 2008 7:35PM
If it really bothers you that much you could just not connect your console to Live/PSN while playing. Not an ideal solution by any means but a solution nonetheless.
j.howlett @ Mar 27th 2008 8:01PM
don't sign up April 15th or ever
apotheos @ Mar 27th 2008 8:10PM
It's looking for a problem to complain over software phoning home? I'm entitled to privacy on my couch, aren't I?
Markez @ Mar 27th 2008 6:00PM
The LCPD blotter sounds like it has potential to have some pretty cool info, especially if it'll tie into the multiplayer component somehow. Plus the mention of earning in-game or online widgets could be compelling.
Altho franky I'm still just heartbroken there's no vehicle customization or chop shops. I always loved souping up any old crap vehicle as a quick throwaway just to get somewhere fast.
Haon @ Mar 27th 2008 6:20PM
Holy crap. Online stats in a game like this is gonna give it legs like a Kenyan. Cant wait.
Steve @ Mar 28th 2008 5:28AM
I'm thinking this kind of thing is required in a game now. After Halo 3 we were all spoiled by the sweet stats tracking and it's been my biggest complaint that COD4 didn't include something like it. I loved it for Halo, it should be insane for GTA.
amart @ Apr 1st 2008 1:08AM
you'll have so many babies, 400 babies!!
Kiltman67 @ Mar 27th 2008 6:25PM
Great news... All I need is something like this for CoD 4 and I'll be delighted

woot cant wait
