Gran Turismo 5 Prologue now available on Euro PSN
No doubt tired of all the screeching that emanated from yesterday's delay of tire-screeching driving sim, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Sony has finally sorted out its "technical difficulties" and updated the European PlayStation Store. Our readers from across the sea can now cease sending us irate tips and reserve the gnashing of teeth for when they send an exorbitantly priced car into an unforgiving barrier.
Whether you opted for the downloadable Prologue or the Blu-ray version, we hope you enjoy it long enough for the full game to come hurtling around the corner.

I want to see the sales. I want my free N64 Virtual Console game =p

I can guarantee right now that if you win the person who owes it to you will mysteriously disapear.
Fernando Rocker @ Mar 28th 2008 4:18PM
=(
Vidikron, are you there? I already purchased 2000 Wii Points... If I lose, you can be sure that I will send you an N64 VC gift.
Curtis the Claw: Brawl Code 1075-0441-3284 @ Mar 28th 2008 4:22PM
What was the bet again?
Fernando Rocker @ Mar 28th 2008 4:26PM
There's an article that says that GT5P had 1 million preorders.
That was the same case with Mario Galaxy and several other games. Mario Galaxy had 800,000 pre-orders in Japan, and only sold 250,000 in the first week.
Everyone think that GT5P will sell 1 million int he first day, and I say that it will not sell the million even in the first week.
The PS3 install base in Europe is 3.8 million. To sell a million of copies first day, that means it have to sell to almost 30% of the install base, and thats pretty hard.
That's my opinion, but if that happend, well, congratlations.
Raikage (LDF CRAB BATTLE!!!) @ Mar 28th 2008 4:29PM
I suppose that's a reasonable bet...
copa @ Mar 28th 2008 4:38PM
Rocker, you'll be getting that game.
1,000,000 Europeans are not going to pay $40 for a demo. Just because they speak funny languages over there doesn't mean they are mentally retarded.
Vince UK @ Mar 28th 2008 4:43PM
And when you win Fernando no doubt you'll add "Sony fanboys said GT5P would sell a million on the first day rofl" to your list of things Sony fanboys say.
glitched @ Mar 28th 2008 4:58PM
vince, I think GT fanboys would be more inclined to say that than sony fanboys.
Anonim @ Mar 28th 2008 5:06PM
http://akayuki.com/2008/03/06/famitsus-top-10-next-gen-numbers/
Only Japan numbers
6. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (BR version) - SCEJ - 202,131
Not enough PS3 = WEAK sales
200,000+(number of PSN dsales, in Japan (online games are mostly ignored) = not very much)
Very dissapointing considering earlier Prologue sales 1,000,000+ IIRC
Vidikron (FU) @ Mar 28th 2008 5:09PM
Haha... I'm not going to disappear. I actually figure there's a very good chance I'll lose. But what the hell, I've had 2K sitting in my Wii account for over year. Need to spend them on something eventually. May as well make a small friendly wager even if the odds are stacked against me.
el serpiente @ Mar 28th 2008 6:16PM
You know, I'd love to read a sony thread without fernando's juvenile attention-whoring. Are you that bored of waggle bowling already that you have to persistently do this?
I could care less about your little bets, and even less about how many copies GT5P sells. I was hoping to read some first impressions from some euros, but you had to infect us with your derail.
¡callate cabrón!
Kye BWii: 008 721 786 740 (fuck I hate friend codes) @ Mar 29th 2008 5:58AM
Vidikron, I think the odds are not as against you as you think. I know that GT is a big deal here in Europe. I may be a system seller.
Raikage (LDF CRAB BATTLE!!!) @ Mar 28th 2008 4:17PM
Two questions.
Is the demo free?
And
Is there going to be damage this time around (I'm pretty sure the Cell could handle it :D)
Fernando Rocker @ Mar 28th 2008 4:19PM
No... there's no demo for a demo. And no, it doesn't have damage.
glitched @ Mar 28th 2008 4:22PM
yes, there was a free demo for prologue.
no damage in prolouge, but they say it will be in gt5 when it's released next year.
deaftly @ Mar 28th 2008 4:26PM
I can't wait for Cool Runnings: Prolouge
Raikage (LDF CRAB BATTLE!!!) @ Mar 28th 2008 4:28PM
Wa wait, I thought Prologue was the demo...
BOB SAGET! Why can't they do damage?!
BTW I want proof on the damage being in the final release.
glitched @ Mar 28th 2008 4:40PM
Prologue is a prologue.
The demo was available on the japanese PSN ( I'm told its no longer available, but i was recently able to re-download it about 2 weeks ago)
The demo had maybe a dozen cars and one track.
All we have for proof on the damage is conversations with kazanori, and we all know how well he keeps his words :(
HighFiveJesus @ Mar 28th 2008 4:46PM
i hope there will be damage but at the moment, its a big fiasco because the driving sim would have to incorporate the damage like a crash sim, it would be expected to react realistically. doing so probably makes car manufacturers nervous that it may expose even theoretical safety flaws and unless all the cars reacted the same way, make the competition look bad in the process so there's a ton of legal balance being worked out no doubt to make sure adding the damage would live up to the rest of the game's over the top for the time physics and what not.
Synner @ Mar 29th 2008 5:19AM
That'd be a great argument highfive if like i don't know... Forza hadn't been doing it for 5 years.
you know why there's no damage in GT? Lazy ass programmers and no competition.
Kye BWii: 008 721 786 740 (fuck I hate friend codes) @ Mar 29th 2008 6:01AM
The Damage in Forza is not realistic though. It's a good feature, but still not near real-life physics.
Noshino @ Mar 29th 2008 12:03PM
You know what's funny? you said that Forza in a way is ahead of GT but then you go ahead and say that GT has no competition
"Forza hadn't been doing it for 5 years.
you know why there's no damage in GT? Lazy ass programmers and no competition."
Anyway, like Kye mentioned, Forza has damage which indeed is nice, but has been proven countless times that it isn't well simulated, and if the Forza crowd complains about it (Yes, that's auto fans for you, they bitch about everything!), imagine what would happen to GT which has a bigger fanbase?....better not have it than to do a poor job...
I'll buy GT5 if they have car damage, I want to see a beautifully crashed Ferrari!
Leemo @ Mar 28th 2008 6:28PM
It's on the PSN for £24.99 - when I can buy the blu-ray copy online for £17.99.
Hmm - wonder which I'll go for?
How can they get away with that!
Pseudopath @ Mar 28th 2008 5:16PM
I went into my local Currys today and they were charging £39.99 for it! Cheeky buggers!
gumbadumba @ Mar 28th 2008 5:12PM
remember euro guys, instead of buying gt5 at lets say - the german psn store, buy it in the uk store. its only 31 Euros - you save 8 Euros. Just create a UK account with a fake address (bogus street and city name will do) and add your CC. i was able to buy everyday shooter like that from the US store LONG BEFORE it was released here...
ssuk @ Mar 28th 2008 5:12PM
They released the PS3 in America for £300, yet released it here for £425. I'm pretty sure Sony doesn't give a shit about pricing policies.
Benny @ Mar 28th 2008 6:33PM
Europe is Sony's cash-bitch. Didn't you get that memo?
Eggy @ Mar 29th 2008 12:00PM
Everything is more expensive here, get it through your thick skull for once.
Chimp @ Mar 28th 2008 5:16PM
Got mine today! on BR though....haven't slipped this bad boy in the ps3 yet, 'cause it's Friday and we having sessions....don't drink and drive kids!
Mr.ESC @ Mar 28th 2008 5:17PM
Okay the if this worth’s 40$ or not is still in debate but the question here is
The people who are going to buy this are they going to pay 40 to 60$ for the full game next year?
If this game is as complete as Sony fanboys say then paying for the full game next year is just absurd , you would be paying for damage models and new tracks.
I mean unless Polyphony is giving discounts or free stuff to the people that bought prologue when GT5 is released it seems like they are just hurting themselves.
It would’ve been a better idea just charge the price of the full game and give them Prologue while GT5 is released. Like some sort of pre-order.
Vidikron (FU) @ Mar 28th 2008 5:21PM
I agree with that. I think there should be a discount of some sort for GT5P owners, even if it's not a full $40 off the final retail game. I doubt I'll be buying GT5 anyway since it's not really my type of racer, but if I was I think I'd hold out for the final game. I think you have to be a pretty hardcore fan of the series to do this.
Synner @ Mar 29th 2008 5:20AM
You mean like paying $60 for a demo of Halo?
Fanboys are retarded.
GRANTED @ Mar 28th 2008 5:28PM
actually since polyphony digital keeps crying that damage modeling is too hard, the "unforgiving barrier" becomes quite forgiving. because somewhere, someone thinks the "most realistic driving simulator" should allow you to ram a lotus elise into a concrete wall at 120 mph and drive away with a slight time penalty and a speedometer reduced to 40 mph.
glitched -- it's been back and forth on the damage issue, my bet is it won't be realized due to "time constraints" and relegated to the "next installment".
i realize im using a lot of "quotation marks" but all of the "official comments" regarding this game are getting extremely "cliche'd".
i dont need to know what shade of chrome the engine block of my honda civic is when i crash its front end into a wall. just give me something between a dent and "totaled" and i'll be happy.
Benny @ Mar 28th 2008 6:30PM
"...yesterday's delay of tire-screeching driving sim, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue"?
Prologue wasn't delayed was it? It was the full shebang that got a 2009 date.
Justin @ Mar 28th 2008 9:31PM
It was delayed from yesterday til today.
It was due w/ the Weekly Thursday PS Store Update
but due to 'last minute' tech issues
it fell over till today.

yeah, im looking forward and hoping for damage to.
but i also have a magazine interview with kazanori that said gt4 will have online.
John McPoop @ Mar 28th 2008 11:27PM
Damn that game looks photo real!
Dude the voice over in that video was downright laughable... Hard to tell if the guy was making fun of him or not...
The wheel is crazy... Tune your car while driving! I have the last Logitech wheel that works with the PS3 so I wont be buying the new wheel but maybe when GT 5 releases... Anyway, Thanks for the video man.... I'll be on Hot Shots Tonight...
Zeus.:God @ Mar 29th 2008 12:25AM
Sorry but Prologue is an absolute RIPOFF.
Eggy @ Mar 29th 2008 12:02PM
If people buy Prologue and have hours of fun with it (many more than alot of other games out there) who are you to judge that the game is a ripoff.
Really the fanboy level on joystiq is downright pathetic.
Noshino @ Mar 29th 2008 12:05PM
yah, agree with Eggy.
Eggy, what do you think about Wii Sports being sold separatly in Japan?
HB96st @ Mar 29th 2008 4:47PM
"For those of you wondering. Kazunori has confirmed that car deformation is coming soon, very, very, soon."
Yeah, when is that?? 3008 with the PSmm (Mind-Meld)??
they have been promising that since GT2! The excuse for that was "oh, the car companies didnt want to see their cars wrecked."
I call Bull...
