We knew that Paramount was 'very, very excited' about the games space, but today we're getting the first look at how that enthusiasm will translate into a publishing business. Variety reported today on Paramount's expanded interactive department, which will put a focus on mobile, handheld and casual games because ... well, because they're cheap to develop and businesses like money.
The games wing isn't completely separate from the films business though, Paramount will only be putting its muscle behind new licenses and catalog titles (it will continue to license properties out to other companies). So ... catalog titles, eh? Dare we hope? Is it finally time for the whip-snapping, bullet-dodging action ... of Pootie Tang: The Game?

Paramount: "By God, we've let enough third parties make a total hash of Star Trek games. It's time we screwed them up for ourselves!"

I was thinking the same thing.
The last time I had fun with a Star Trek game was with the Starfleet Academy flight sim on SNES.

Hey guys, I.E. Joystiq staff, check a little site called 1-18-08news.com, as well as its forums.
About a month or so ago, Paramount requested the domain name "CloverfieldGame.com" from the fan Brad Johnson as they have plans to make an official game somewhere down the road. He passed it over to them and he's begun work on a similar but different plotted game.
Suffice to say, they own the rights to the name of the website now... If this were anything else, I'd say brush it off but it looks like this is solid.
Maybe mention it as one of the possibilities of future titles?

Can't movie companies just leave us alone?

I imagine they'll go out much like Fox's attempt.

Better watch what you say about Pootie Tang, Justin. If you aren't careful, Pootie Tang will draw you a picture of how he gonna kick your ass, then mail it to you ten days in advance. The picture gets there right? You're goin', "What the hell is this?" and then Pootie Tang knocks on your door, Promptly kicks your ass and you still won't know what happened to you!

Do you think that they're migrating here because their movies aren't making enough money?
I wonder what's worse: movie companies getting involved in game-making, or games getting involved with movie-making.
