Rainbow Six Vegas 2 sells 2M worldwide, Ubi raising fiscal guidance
Ubisoft announced today that Rainbow Six Vegas 2 has engaged retail with precision and sold two million units worldwide. GameDaily reports that due to RSV2's initial sales and the continued momentum of Assassin's Creed and Games for Everyone, the publisher raised its fiscal guidance and expects net sales of €920 million ($1.54 billion) from €875 million ($1.38 billion). Ubi's CEO, Yves Guillemot, says 2008 is "off to be a record year" for the industry and company.
Modest reviews didn't seem to put a damper on RSV2's initial sales with Ubisoft calling them a "better than expected start." If This is Vegas ends up selling exceptionally well -- and boy, could Midway use the sales -- we may see Vegas become the hottest video game setting since Omaha Beach.

How does this crappy copy of a game that came out a year ago get 2 million in sales and quality titles like Warhawk, Heavenly Sword and Uncharted barely get a million....
Einhanderkiller @ Mar 31st 2008 7:40PM
Sadly, not an April Fools joke.
Kodros @ Mar 31st 2008 7:42PM
There's no Adam Sandler movie out so they had cash to spend.
goboColossus @ Mar 31st 2008 7:44PM
Probably the same reason people actually paid to see Spider-Man 3 and shunned The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
That warm fuzzy feeling you get when you stick to what you know. Like voting Bush into a second term or being a Sony fanboy.
Howl Pendragon @ Mar 31st 2008 7:45PM
"being a Sony fanboy."
I see what you did there ;)
ballistic @ Mar 31st 2008 7:54PM
maybe the huge marketing they did for it. I have seen huge number of commercials advertising it. which heavenly sword and warhawk and uncharted are give like 3 second clips in PS3 montage.
Darknessplayas @ Mar 31st 2008 8:04PM
The reason why is: RBV2 is multiplafform. Unlike warhawk, uncharted...
Fandel Mulkey @ Mar 31st 2008 8:34PM
yeah, they really need to add multiplayer to Warhawk really soon.... (/sarcasm)
License to ill @ Mar 31st 2008 8:43PM

"Because xbox live multi-player is fun as hell..."
Your right, paying 50 bucks a year is tons of fun :)
Top Ramen @ Mar 31st 2008 8:53PM
Oh. No. $50/year, what am I to do? How am I to afford .17 cents a day?
Oh, that is right. I eat delicious Top Ramen noodles.
Howl Pendragon @ Mar 31st 2008 8:54PM
I'd rather play a free online service like PlayStation Network and donate 50 bucks a year to help kids in Africa thank you very much.
Top Ramen @ Mar 31st 2008 8:57PM
Or you can send them delicious Top Ramen noodles?
Howl Pendragon @ Mar 31st 2008 8:58PM
Wow, making fun of kids in Africa? Humanity has just hit a all-time low.
Top Ramen @ Mar 31st 2008 9:06PM
How, Howl? How was my comment making fun of kids in Africa?
How does one person count for humanity?
Finally, can you tell us some more about how great you are because you give to charity?
Howl Pendragon @ Mar 31st 2008 9:08PM
Sorry maybe it was just me. I took that as you were somewhat mocking kids in Africa. I apologize.
Top Ramen @ Mar 31st 2008 9:10PM
Accepted. I also would like to apologize to Joystiq for taking the comments off track.
Sam Zebian @ Mar 31st 2008 9:15PM
"I'd rather play a free online service like PlayStation Network and donate 50 bucks a year to help kids in Africa"
Yeah right, you probably never donated any of the money you would have used on an online service to Africa. Stop using donations as a way to look like you've done some good. The money that would have gone to Africa instead went into purchasing your PS3, with the most popular model being $600, $250 more than the most popular Xbox. That's 5 years of Xbox live service to be able to reach to the Ps3's price.
($600-$350=$250/$50= 5 times)
So yea, while your money went to the corporate greed of Sony (Pricing a console that high?? why not just sell a cheaper version? No, I don't mean a crippled cheaper version (No wi-fi or back-compatibility with $400 version)), and my money went to some other, more efficient causes. I'm not going to lie and tell you that they went to Africa, but they were used for something better than the expense of a console that could have been sold for less. (I know the components actually used to cost something like $850 and Sony is taking a loss at this, but they could have made a cheaper, more affordable version)
Howl Pendragon @ Mar 31st 2008 9:26PM
@sam
I was using that as an example of how my money could be better spent.
"Stop using donations as a way to look like you've done some good."
Lol, im not trying to make myself look good.
"but they could have made a cheaper, more affordable version"
Yeah but I want a PS3 that has Blu-Ray (which is the reason why it is more expensive). Sure they could of taken it out but then the PS3 would be pretty pointless since according to you xbots "PS3 has no games" anyways. Right?
Sam Zebian @ Mar 31st 2008 9:40PM
@Howl- I didn't say it, you see, you did. I'm not one of those "Xbots" you refer to. I actually consider other consoles too, I'm a little more open than most people when it comes to things, unlike the fanboys. Sure, I used to be a bit of a fanboy myself, but you know what, saying remarks like "Ps3 got no games!" is something that isn't true.
It's got wonderful games, like uh, resistance (wasn't that a release game?), uhm... I'm blanking out here... Hmmm.... Well, you get my point.
Jk.
Anyways, if HD-DVD won the war, we wouldn't be running into these problems like Profile 2.0 players not being available yet (other than the PS3), more expensive players, etc. Maybe Sony should have just went the right way and agreed on the rules and regulations they chose when coming up with the next HD-Format with Toshiba and all of the other companies that were making the formats. Instead of coming up with their own format with hardly any standards and going into an all out war against Toshiba and MS. Corporate Greed. They just wanted to make a format they could get more sales from. People who buy 1.0 players may eventually upgrade to 2.0 players.
Roofie @ Mar 31st 2008 9:46PM
Because I'm not sure that 2 million people own PS3s yet.
Howl Pendragon @ Mar 31st 2008 9:50PM
"Jk."
Hahaha such a funny joke.
Why are you arguing about a format war thats over?
Sam Zebian @ Mar 31st 2008 10:14PM
By saying "JK", I had meant that I was kidding, I'm not the type of guy that would bash the PS3 for it's games. I was just kidding man.
Howl Pendragon @ Mar 31st 2008 10:16PM
"By saying "JK", I had meant that I was kidding"
Which is implying you made a joke right?
Thats why I said funny joke.
mundox @ Apr 1st 2008 12:35AM
"Warhawk, Heavenly Sword and Uncharted barely get a million...."
I really think that has to do with them being ps3 exclusives.
darkandlong @ Apr 1st 2008 7:31AM
Maybe because:
-More 360s then PS3s
-Uncharted and Heavenly Sword (while good games, I liked them both) can be beaten in less then 8 hours each and have no MP or good incentives for replayability.
-Warhawk is alright, except nobody uses any form of communication whatsoever and its a totally different gametype compared to Vegas 2 (hey Sony, nobody wants to pay 40 bucks for a BT headset, throw a corded one in the box like MS)
-Vegas was an amazing game for its time and had the dedicated fanbase already.
I bought Vegas 2 and its alright. Not as good as Vegas and COD4 has improved on the "realistic" combat shooter MP so much that it feels so clunky. I'll still rank up to Elite then probably go back to COD4 or see how GTA IV's MP is.
luckycharms711 @ Apr 1st 2008 12:25PM
It is not exclusive to one system

$50.00 for 12 months, V.S. $50-60.00 for a demo (prolouge)....
I'd pick the 12 months blindfolded.
Howl Pendragon @ Mar 31st 2008 9:38PM
GT5:P isn't really a demo, so I don't see what your getting at.
na2ru1 @ Apr 1st 2008 12:18PM
HB96st
You are on a mission to desperately back up MS's absurd desicion to charge for online, where 1st party system selling games such as Halo3 require peoples xbox's to host a friggin game - p2p? I'd keep the money for another game any day.
But if your MS's girlfriend, then i suppose online games that suddenly halt in a middle of a gunfire is a f*cking breakthrough in the making(host quitting). I'd prefer my entertainment without any interuptions thanks.
and dont start that "cant afford $50 BS". Most of you 360 people are way overly defensive for the xbox 360 as if its defensless as an autistic granny.
Im not saying no one should use an xbox. its just
theres a difference between using a 360 than obeying every aspect and elements that make it as a whole
KilgoreTrout XL @ Mar 31st 2008 9:37PM
Modest reviews notwithstanding, when the servers are actually working RS:V2 is a pretty fucking kick-ass MP game. That's cool it's selling well.
Mike918 @ Mar 31st 2008 9:45PM
All of these fanboy battles seem funny and cute at the beggining, but now they look old and always with the same arguments if xbox live is expensive or psn sucks but is free and all that stuff...people need to chill out you are even talking about the poor kids in Africa! :/
HB96st @ Mar 31st 2008 11:15PM
"GT5:P isn't really a demo"
"isn't" really?? Then what is it then?? Sounds like youre not too sure even.
Noshino @ Apr 1st 2008 12:02AM
ugh dude, don't you get tired of that GT5:P comment?
What do you call a demo? normally it is a few minutes of the game or just a few levels right?
When have you seen a "demo" of a game as complete as GT5:P? The only ones I can think of are the ones that are given to testers, but then again those are also sold to the testers...
"$50.00 for 12 months, V.S. $50-60.00 for a demo (prolouge)....
I'd pick the 12 months blindfolded."
Free demos or $50 a year to get the demos a week or so before getting it for free? are you that blindfolded to pick the latter?

ThePremierAssassin @ Apr 1st 2008 1:01AM
LMAO...
All those games suck...PERIOD.
Heavenly Sword = Goddess of War. How could it possibly have sold ridiculously high numbers when its basically a clone of the sony fanboys UBER SECRETE WEAPON as to why the ps3 will "PWN this generation".
Uncharted = Tomb Raider: Male Edition. It sold poor numbers in its first week out if I remember correctly. Wasn't like 400,000 or something? I mean really it took forever to reach 1 mil in sales. Its another CLONE of a legacy game. Pretty graphics, pretty sound, and pretty cover art. Thats all Uncharted had going for it.
Warhawk: LMAO another generic multiplayer game. As if there aren't a MILLION of them on the 360. Add to the fact that it ONLY had multiplayer in it (no 1 player).
ThePremierAssassin @ Apr 1st 2008 1:03AM
Enjoy 3rd Place this generation you arrogant and desperate sony fanboys.
Wait I KNOW I KNOW..."just wait till...."
Yes I'll for Final Fantasy XIII. And by that time the ps3 will probably be dirt cheap. And of course theres the chance that it won't be that FANTASTIC at all. Hell I usually get FF just for the graphics and cutscenes.
Jamesology @ Apr 1st 2008 1:27AM
WOW you're an idiot too! All games are pretty much the same. It's really just based on the setting that consumers like more and the name.
Take for example Mario games, WOW, no difference. Mario is Mario and still sells more than any 360 game. All the game is running around and jumping. No different from Daxter and Crash bandicoot.
Noshino @ Apr 1st 2008 1:51AM
haha, if I was you, I wouldn't have said this
"Yes I'll for Final Fantasy XIII. And by that time the ps3 will probably be dirt cheap"
So you don't have a PS3, yet you seem to think that you know more about these games than the people that have played them?
Heavenly Sword:
Started on Xbox, turned down and then went to Sony (pretty sure that if it stayed it would have been praised by xbox fans)
Amazing game, best animations ever, at first sight it does look like a copy of GoW but gameplay wise its far from it, anyone that has played both series would tell you that.
Uncharted:
"Its another CLONE of a legacy game."
I would rather say that it has its similarities with the mechanics of a legacy game, but then again, doesn't the same happen with almost every game nowadays? they all tend to have similar mechanics to legacy games....
Once again, people that have played both series seem to not all agree with your comment about it being a "clone", what makes you think that you are right?
Warhawk:
"another generic multiplayer game"
yah, because there are so many games out there that offer everything that Warhawk does, right?
What makes a game generic list:
(another list,sorry sheppy)
Huge Maps CHECK
Wide Array of Vehicles CHECK
Wide Array of Weapons CHECK
Different Game Modes CHECK
Character Customization CHECK
Use of Moderators CHECK
Seriously, the only thing the game would be missing to be the perfect game would be an editor, but that is really pushing it.
Really, give the games a try before putting them as garbage simply because they aren't on your console of choice, it makes you look less stupid...
Delgado @ Apr 1st 2008 1:16AM
This comment thread is full of lose.
Except for goboColossus' comment at the beggining. THAT was full of win.
Chameleon @ Apr 1st 2008 6:47AM
does kind of seem as if it descended into a fanboy war a little quicker than usual ....
Todd @ Apr 1st 2008 10:35AM
I bought RB6:V2 and loved the heck out of it... until I got the RROD of death five hours later. ick.
Honestly I picked it up for the strong co-op component.
na2ru1 @ Apr 1st 2008 12:42PM
Funny how after you coming in and mentioning about a particular something, this thread comes to a halt
Todd @ Apr 1st 2008 1:05PM
Stupid talking about co-op... ; )
J-Man @ Apr 1st 2008 3:05PM
No offense to anybody about GT5:P but it is a DEMO. Look just because I see a 45 minute preview of a movie does not mean it'[s not a preview. Length does not matter as long as you never get the entire experience. So yeah its just a BIG DEMO. Now whether folks buy it is their business but I preview to buy a game once unless that demo was free or cheap as dirt, say $10.
So please to all those who keeps trying to say its not a demo, IT IS A FUCKING DEMO, both technically and logically, so how about arguing how good of a demo it is that would be a better preference.
na2ru1 @ Apr 2nd 2008 12:03AM
Ah here we go again.
GT5 prologue has 70 cars with 6 tracks and 16 player MP. its charged at around half of a full game. Since "MP is where this so-called gen is at". 16 player MP is sure a big thing for GT5P.
Tell me what demo comes in that size in terms of content. otherwise, just stop whining about it and keep your mouth shut
Robert @ Apr 1st 2008 5:12PM
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 sucks. The multiplayer is too slow, and gameplay is too slow. It takes over 15 minutes to finally get into a good room.
Ricky Coffelt @ Apr 17th 2008 4:02PM
all i ever see on these boards is fanboys bashing xbox. you guys seem to have alot of time to waste. why arent u playin your precious ps3? btw, nobody minds payin 50/yr cuz 99% of time xbox live ROCKS!get a life or move to japan or sumthin
