Rock Band Weekly: 'Still Alive' free now on XBM, April 17 for PSN
[Update 7:30pm ET: Our poker buddies at X3F let us know that the extremely impatient amongst you need wait no longer. That's right, "Still Alive" is available on Xbox 360 right now; unfortunately, PS3 owners still have to wait until April 17th. Go get it!]
This is a triumph! And, of course, by "triumph" we really mean "not an April Fool's joke." Harmonix has just announced availability and pricing details for the Rock Band release of Jonathan Coulton's cult hit "Still Alive": it's dropping tomorrow for the low, low price of $0.00.
Individual song
Portal landed the top spot in our 2007 Game of the Year Awards, but who filled the other nine spots? We've got Halo 3, Call of Duty IV, Rock Band, Peggle (yeah Peggle), and more. Take a look.

Ugh, talk about bitter sweet. I love Portal to death, and have been dying to get this DLC. It's awesome that it's free, really sucks to have to wait two weeks to get it. =\
capt_carl @ Mar 31st 2008 1:56PM
If it makes you feel better, I still don't own Rock Band, but only because I got wrapped up in Mass Effect and Lost Odyssey, and soon P3: FES.

Oh crap. what is they release a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT song tomorrow on XBLM and just call it the portal song, for a totally killer April Fools joke? You know maybe a certain "Never gonna give you up" by Rick Astley...
I mean, not to give them any ideas or anything... just a thought.
Quite frankly a Rick Roll in Rock Band wouldn't be the worst idea in the world, as long as it's free :D
Jerk Face @ Mar 31st 2008 1:28PM
If Harmonix Rick Rolled their entire fanbase it would be the most Epically Winning April Fools' Joke EVAR.
T @ Mar 31st 2008 1:31PM
I agree something doesn't seem right. I joked elsewhere that HMX would release a track today, prank us with it somehow...and hand out the real song for free the day after.
But how will that work for PSN? Within an hour of release the entire internet's going to know if we've been Rickrolled by Harmonix.
Frankly whatever song it is...I'm going to be enjoying it two fold. 1) Free new song. 2) Mystery of if I'm going to get pranked at some point.
A free track is also awesome for regulars on XBL. There's no excuse for the entire Rock Band 360 populace to have at least one new song to play by the end of the week.
Lone Starr @ Mar 31st 2008 1:54PM
@ Jerk Face,
Then when all the fans are pissed, Harmonix will be stong-armed into actually forcing it for free which makes me wonder: who is this joke on?
o.O
Farseer (GDI) @ Mar 31st 2008 2:13PM
But, Lone Star, the song is free anyway... I guess I'm confused.
Lone Starr @ Mar 31st 2008 2:21PM
^
liek hypothetically speaking....
XD
rTwelve @ Mar 31st 2008 2:25PM
The ability to play Never Gonna Give You Up on Rock Band would be enough to convince me to get the game
srsly.
John Z @ Mar 31st 2008 3:07PM
Hell, I'd pay to be Rock Band Rick Rolled. I may pay for the Rick Roll in Rubles, or Rupees, or perhaps Rands or Reals. Or if I wanted to get medieval, I'd pay in Ryo. But, man, would it rule to be Rick Rolled in Rock Band for real.
BrokenMonkey @ Mar 31st 2008 4:45PM
It would be awesome to be Rick Rolled on April Fool's Day, the way I see it they could Rick Roll the 360 owners tomorrow, then release Still Alive to everyone for free on the 17th when the PSN is back up. Of course, the PS Fanboys would all take it the wrong way...
giantenemycrab @ Mar 31st 2008 5:31PM
Great, I rather have rick roll than Still Alive now.

we need knowledgable officers ???
PojoMofo @ Mar 31st 2008 1:15PM
On 2 seperate occasions now, I have loaded up my last Portal save and played the last boss just to hear the song again.
What they need is a voice synthesizer to make your voice all GLaDOS-like while you sing it
Farseer (GDI) @ Mar 31st 2008 2:16PM
Granted, the boss battle is fun, but if you want to satisfy your Still Alive urge a bit quicker:

Thanks Farseer. I needed that.

Time to get some lyrics practice in.
I plan to 5-star hard vocals tomorrow night, hopefully on the first try. :)

miffy495 @ Mar 31st 2008 3:12PM
Somewhat in agreement with my feelings here, although more hostile than I'd like to put it. Still Alive is fine, but I'm incredibly sick of it by this point. I don't care how free it is, I'll probably not be downloading it. When I play Rock Band with friends now, I'm going to have to sit through this song again and again. It was funny the first time, but now that it's a meme it's just irritating. Please let this be a joke, Harmonix.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Mar 31st 2008 3:39PM
This is a joke? HAHA, Fat Chance!
usagi704 @ Mar 31st 2008 1:46PM
I wouldn't be surprised if this was an april fool's joke. It is way to convenient for not to be.
dantebk @ Mar 31st 2008 1:47PM
Considering anyone who's played Portal and owns Rock Band would have bought this, it's really amazing that they're giving it out for free.
Assuming naturally there is no April Fools trickery.
mietha CAG @ Mar 31st 2008 1:47PM
Well, gee, I guess the date of the PSN update is a mystery no more... Anyway, awesome. I've been waiting for this one. Hell of a lot better than Boston, that's for sure.
baby sea tuna @ Mar 31st 2008 2:54PM
I don't know about *that*, but it is a pretty good song.
sigler00 @ Mar 31st 2008 2:00PM
Noooooooo!!
My xbox is still on it's way to Texas 'cause of damn RROD, and thanks to their shoddy box I'll miss it.
baby sea tuna @ Mar 31st 2008 2:55PM
Why not hook your HDD up to a friend's Xbox and d/l it there? That way, you'll have it waiting when your box gets back home.
Dethfire @ Mar 31st 2008 2:46PM
If only my damn rock band disk worked and didnt give me DISK READ ERROR nonstop
BBXboy @ Mar 31st 2008 7:18PM
Dethfire: same thing happened to me... it could be a corrupt game save. Here's how I fixed it...
1. move your original save file (A) from the hard drive to a memory card
2. create a new dummy save file (B) from within Rock Band (saved to the hard drive), then quit
3. move original save file (A) back to hard drive - overwriting the dummy save file (B)
4. should work now :)
