[Update 7:30pm ET: Our poker buddies at X3F let us know that the extremely impatient amongst you need wait no longer. That's right, "Still Alive" is available on Xbox 360 right now; unfortunately, PS3 owners still have to wait until April 17th. Go get it!]
This is a triumph! And, of course, by "triumph" we really mean "not an April Fool's joke." Harmonix has just announced availability and pricing details for the Rock Band release of Jonathan Coulton's cult hit "Still Alive": it's dropping tomorrow for the low, low price of $0.00.
"Still Alive" - Jonathan Coulton (0 MS points/ $0)
Video for this week's Rock Band DLC is after the break (including our own vid of Coulton performing the song in Rock Band live!). We're going to warn you now that the song is a spoiler for Portal, but if you haven't spent the three hours to finish Joystiq's GOTY by this point ... well, we're sorry. "Still Alive" will be available tomorrow on Xbox Live and on April 17 for PSN due to the store update.
Portal landed the top spot in our 2007 Game of the Year Awards, but who filled the other nine spots? We've got Halo 3, Call of Duty IV, Rock Band, Peggle (yeah Peggle), and more. Take a look.
Ugh, talk about bitter sweet. I love Portal to death, and have been dying to get this DLC. It's awesome that it's free, really sucks to have to wait two weeks to get it. =\
hey I love playing this song! I got it already with the 360 !! girls really do play this game and dig the guys who play too ! check out my group "Rockband Addicts" http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=14355559001
Oh crap. what is they release a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT song tomorrow on XBLM and just call it the portal song, for a totally killer April Fools joke? You know maybe a certain "Never gonna give you up" by Rick Astley...
I mean, not to give them any ideas or anything... just a thought.
Quite frankly a Rick Roll in Rock Band wouldn't be the worst idea in the world, as long as it's free :D
I agree something doesn't seem right. I joked elsewhere that HMX would release a track today, prank us with it somehow...and hand out the real song for free the day after.
But how will that work for PSN? Within an hour of release the entire internet's going to know if we've been Rickrolled by Harmonix.
Frankly whatever song it is...I'm going to be enjoying it two fold. 1) Free new song. 2) Mystery of if I'm going to get pranked at some point.
A free track is also awesome for regulars on XBL. There's no excuse for the entire Rock Band 360 populace to have at least one new song to play by the end of the week.
Hell, I'd pay to be Rock Band Rick Rolled. I may pay for the Rick Roll in Rubles, or Rupees, or perhaps Rands or Reals. Or if I wanted to get medieval, I'd pay in Ryo. But, man, would it rule to be Rick Rolled in Rock Band for real.
It would be awesome to be Rick Rolled on April Fool's Day, the way I see it they could Rick Roll the 360 owners tomorrow, then release Still Alive to everyone for free on the 17th when the PSN is back up. Of course, the PS Fanboys would all take it the wrong way...
Somewhat in agreement with my feelings here, although more hostile than I'd like to put it. Still Alive is fine, but I'm incredibly sick of it by this point. I don't care how free it is, I'll probably not be downloading it. When I play Rock Band with friends now, I'm going to have to sit through this song again and again. It was funny the first time, but now that it's a meme it's just irritating. Please let this be a joke, Harmonix.
Well, gee, I guess the date of the PSN update is a mystery no more... Anyway, awesome. I've been waiting for this one. Hell of a lot better than Boston, that's for sure.
Dethfire: same thing happened to me... it could be a corrupt game save. Here's how I fixed it... 1. move your original save file (A) from the hard drive to a memory card 2. create a new dummy save file (B) from within Rock Band (saved to the hard drive), then quit 3. move original save file (A) back to hard drive - overwriting the dummy save file (B) 4. should work now :)
