Capcom is certainly in the mood to spend money. On the heels of knotting up the rights to MotoGP for the next half-decade, the company has forked over enough cash to purchase Japanese dev K2, a studio known for such titles as Valhalla Knights as well as last year's abysmal Tenchu Z.
The purchase was made via an exchange of stock that's expected to be completed on May 1. Capcom failed to elaborate on its plans for the studio, however, noting only that the acquisition was made in order to make "its game development activities more efficient and speedy," leaving us wondering if Capcom plans to revisit the flailing Tenchu stealth action series at all or is simply adding cogs to its development machine.

Hm..I liked Tenchu Z. It left all the annoying crap like bossbattles, confusing story and supernatural enemys aside, and concentrated what I always liked about the series: Sneaking up, and killing guards. Ok graphics and AI arent up to date, but for me its the ultimate version of tenchu 1. ;)

K2's also making the new Samurai Shodown for SNK, right?

They should have stopped at Wrath of Heaven. Why is Capcom buying up a dev that keeps recycling the same game every year or so? Perhaps they will forsake them to making Capcom's DS/Wii shovelware, that would teach those fuckers to not toy with Tenchu fans' emotions by releasing garbage.

Finally, better Tenchu's on the way. Tenchu Z was good but it could have been better.

I keep bringing it up but Nintendo did an excellent job restructuring Retro Studios that Capcom should do the same thing here. Whip them back into shape.

I work in the same building (indeed floor) as Capcom in London and there's a crazy Japanese dude who saw I was carrying a copy of Guitar Hero 2 (I had to get it repaired as my xbox scratched it) and he kinda tutted and looked at me before saying in a very stereotypical, and what would be borderline racism from someone whose natural accent wasn't like that, "Very popular game" (feel free to substitute as many r's for l's as your conscience allows).
And I explained about getting it repaired before cheekily asking if I could come play Resident Evil 5, knowing that these guys did some work on Resident Evil 4 on the Wii or at least the address on the back of the box was for them.
He then pretended not to speak English saying "Sorry?" and managed to get a bite out of and I repeated myself, where he agian feigned not being able to speak English before saying that there were some things he can't talk about.
Whilst this story has nothing to do with the story beyond a tenuous connection with Capcom I'm going to go hang around outside their offices and try and see what they're working on :)
