Okay, we've figured it out! The tenuous link between today's Virtual Console releases is none other than the ability to travel through exotic locales at high speed, be it on a skateboard rolling through lush jungles or an offensively colored car hurtling through, er, Iowa.
Cruis'n USA (Nintendo 64, 1-2 players, 1000 Wii Points): Hop into your virtually indestructible vehicle and commence your cruise through the N64's best approximation of the USA. We're not sure how you manage to survive the nightmarish elevator music nor the sudden, neck-snapping stop at the finish line, but at least you can look forward to a digitized woman waggling a trophy in your face.
Wonder Boy (Master System, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points): You, Tom-Tom. Girlfriend, Tanya. Must save Tanya. Fling hammers. Murder snails. Ride skateboard. Wonder why girlfriend has such modern name.
Starting at 400 wii points was the rumor. Like how Sin & Punishment is 1200. But I put this in the same category that TMNT 1 is 600 points for that bug riddled NES game.
Oh please, why would you want to race in places like Mount Rushmore or New York City when you cold race in barren Utah and the straight roads in Iowa?!
So, Ill admit this. When I read Cruisin USA was on VC, I thought 'Damn, it couldn't sell enough so they released it that way?' Then my sleeping mind woke up more. Time wasn't good to the series, but, at least it isn't a lie like the Fast and Cruisin game.
My girlfriend just bought a Crusin' USA cart last week. I'd never played it (my friends and I were always MK64/DKR fans), but she insisted I try it. Luckily it was also only $10.
Cruisin' USA? I mean, I don't buy VC games in the first place (until Mario Party 1 & 2 come out, hint hint Nintendo), but they could have AT LEAST released Cruisin' World, which is slightly better as bad games go.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gF-fAWgP710 I never knew that they said that in Cruis'n too. Probably because the attract mode was muted on all the machines I played. Ah, those were the days.
I actually simulated playing Cruis'n USA by downloading "Bluegrass Boogie" and playing it (via custom soundtrack) on my 360 version of Test Drive Unlimited. I was dissapointed to find that doing this did not magically make flies splatter onto my windshield. So... yeah... I'll be re-buying this on the VC.

They shouldn't have released Cruisn' USA, but they can't just U TURN it now, can't they?
Jerk Face @ Mar 31st 2008 12:01PM
Heh.
elmer @ Mar 31st 2008 11:37AM
This is slander.
The N64's best approximation of the USA was quite obviously Pilotwings 64, featuring many popular sites including President Mario at Mount Rushmore.

No. Its libel. Slander is spoken.

I used to love the Crusin' games...but time has been very, very cruel to them.

Release San Francisco Rush already!
I'll be playing that with my pants off when it come out.

I loved Rush, that would be SO awesome if they released it on the VC.

BTW, Cruisin USA looks better.

WOW. Does anyone know this marks the first NON Nintendo published game for N64 on VC?
Ken Seang @ Mar 31st 2008 12:20PM
I remember me and my friends would always play that crusin game in the arcades, not so much on the n64 tho...
VTFootball @ Mar 31st 2008 12:28PM
The cruis'n games were awesome. You always had to give the gas a double pump in order to get that speed burst.
Kneon @ Mar 31st 2008 12:46PM
If they were going to release a third party racing game for the N64, it really should've been BEETLE ADVENTURE RACING.
Now, where's my MAJORA'S MASK, SUPER SMASH BROS. and MARIO PARTY....?
Obie @ Mar 31st 2008 12:58PM
Wonderboy? What is the secret of his powers?
ChooChooCharlie (Brawl: 1504-5357-9285) @ Mar 31st 2008 1:59PM
I believe it's the power to kill a yak from 200 yards with mind-bullets.
(That's telekinesis, Obie.)

*Sidenote*
Wonderboy should definitely be Rock Band DLC.

I'll probably buy Cruisin' USA in the summer if no good releases come out by that time. I enjoyed it back then and hopefully I can enjoy it now.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Mar 31st 2008 1:38PM
Cruisin USA is indeed quite enjoyable to play.

Please. If it happens it'll be a Squenix remake as a separate release on DS or something with extra content at a full price
