Harmonix released its own in-game gag today, announcing "
Rock Band Kart 2008." The Fools' revelation was posted in
Rock Band's 'Community' section, accessible from the game's main menu. We can't help but read the "road" reference as a jab at recently unveiled
Guitar Hero: On Tour, which severs the Harmonix-created series from its raison d'être, replica instruments, and
conveniently shoves the remaining experience into your (really big) pocket.
Kart takes the cash-in spinoff concept one giant leap of faith further. So will the Wii version be compatible with
the Wheel?
[Thanks, Lewis]

Only about 4 hours left of this crap.

Is it seriously too much to have this one day out of the year? You can't stand a couple of clever jokes for a single day? Bah to you April Fool's day haters. Be proud of the way our medium handles April Fool's day, it's pretty much a normal day everywhere else, but for gamers it's just a bit more special. Too bad, there's people like you out there who can't appreciate a joke, even for one day.

april fools ftw
Mills and Boom @ Apr 1st 2008 10:08PM
Huh, it's not supposed to be "all day". It's supposed to be until noon.
But hey some countries just take it too far, probably because they don't have good enough comedy on to decrease this joke pressure incrementally.

@mills and boom
where is that rule from. My parents told me the same exact thing and i thought it was just a family rule so we wouldn't annoy each other too much

Why kill the fun of April Fools by alerting everyone of the pranks?

Why go to Joystiq on April Fool's?
XanthouS @ Apr 1st 2008 10:01PM
It's two-fold:
1) The highlight the clever tricks put out there by various websites/developers before they're gone.
2) There are a LOT of idiots out there. Joystiq probably doesn't want to be flooded with 6,000 "OMG BARD CLASS IN WOW GH MEETS WOW OMGZ" emails.

@ Rule 2:
Oh god, there are way too many people who think these jokes are serious. WoW insider readers actually flamed the writers to stop the April fool's day joke. God, Parker and Stone had it right when they said "half of America is retarded".
Mills and Boom @ Apr 2nd 2008 6:48AM
Yea, or maybe they don't want to see April Fools jokes? Maybe their lives are happy enough without the overly abused "jokers" running rampant for twice as long as they're supposed to?
Heres a lesson - learn from the BBC. Make less jokes but make them INTERESTING. Pasta trees? Flying penguins? April Fools day only works when a respectable company does something jokey.
