Harmonix confirms 'Still Alive' will be free 'indefinitely'

Let them eat cake! A Harmonix representative has confirmed to Joystiq that the delicious download of Jonathan Coulton's "Still Alive" is planned to be at "no charge indefinitely."
Major Nelson noted that the download would be forever gratuit on his Twitter, but on this high holy day of foolery we just wanted todouble triple quadruple check with the source. So all the procrastinators out there can take their sweet time picking up the song on XBM and PSN users -- who won't get the song until April 17 -- don't need to worry they'll somehow miss the free period.

Thats suprising that Microsoft let them off the hook like that! Knowing MS they are always charging for something.
Shmil (Brawl Code 2621-2310-1994) @ Apr 1st 2008 9:07PM
yeah just like how they charged people on thanksgiving for the halo song on Guitar Hero III
seriously where the hell did you come from?
Howl Pendragon @ Apr 1st 2008 9:13PM
Micro$oft has a $ in their name... doesn't that show how greedy they are? Heres more examples.
Microsoft made the 360 cheaper then PS3 so they want more people to buy it because of price which shows they want more market share. and more market share=more money.
Microsoft rehashed halo 2 more times in the form of halo 2 and 3. If microsoft didnt want money they could of stopped the series at halo 1.
Microsoft didn't include Halo 3 with Halo 3 edition of Xbox 360 so now I have to buy Halo 3 legendary edition for 150 and microsoft forces me to buy legendary edition because they forced bungie to make a game that i really want and then have a limited edition which looks cool.
Microsoft means greed in my made up language, so they are greedy!

are you trying to be funny? Because you're really not. If you're going to try and be sarcastic and funny at least put some effort into it.
You're like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie...

"...so now I have to buy Halo 3 legendary edition for 150 and microsoft forces me to buy legendary edition because they forced bungie to make a game that i really want and then have a limited edition which looks cool."
Right. And we're supposed to believe that you actually bought a 360 / Halo 3?
P.S. - Microsoft is a company. This means that they are in the business of selling things / making money.
Howl Pendragon @ Apr 1st 2008 9:23PM
I can give you my gamertag?
Matthew Deweese @ Apr 1st 2008 9:29PM
Howl, stop while your behind.
1) I enjoyed Halo 2 and Halo 3. I'm sure Bungie was fighting off Microsoft to make the other games.
2) Its Microsoft. Not Micro$oft. You look like an ass.
3) Nobody forced you to be a whore and buy the halo $150 edition.
4) Seriously, like an ass.
Tiptup300 @ Apr 1st 2008 9:56PM
wtf, firefox just starting putting my real name on all my posts.
Lone Starr @ Apr 1st 2008 10:40PM
A lot of times, people don't notice things until you point them out, Matthew.
Usagimaru @ Apr 1st 2008 9:14PM
So is that a confirmation that it will be included in the wii version? or are they just going to get the shaft again?
Howl Pendragon @ Apr 1st 2008 9:16PM
Harmonix's shaft.
Wii is sucking it.
Nate @ Apr 1st 2008 9:37PM
The wii is confirmed not to have downloadable content, so no crappy portal song for you.
ChooChooCharlie (Brawl: 1504-5357-9285) @ Apr 1st 2008 9:14PM
I DL'ed it, but I actually kinda wish it was a Rick-Roll, like everyone suspected.

Let's hope that for all the people who don't have Rock Band yet, this offer will be...still alive when they do. Okay, I admit it, that was disgraceful, even considering some of the Joystiq post jokes... :-P
TrojanGuy @ Apr 1st 2008 9:29PM
I downloaded it this morning, but that's good news for people on vacation, whose Internet is down, or who are lazy.
Nate @ Apr 1st 2008 9:39PM
Either Sony times their "downtime" very well, or Harmonix knew they'd be out 1/3 of their user base, and decided to scale back the downloads for this week. Count me among those totally not impressed and not going to miss it for two weeks.
XanthouS @ Apr 1st 2008 10:03PM
Heaven forbid the company offer a large FREE updadate to its FREE online service. It's not like XBL going down during the busiest gaming week of the year...
Purple Haze @ Apr 1st 2008 10:17PM
This gives me hope that they really will be able to make the TF 2 maps free on the consoles.
Neowyrm @ Apr 1st 2008 10:27PM
This is good news! I'll be able to get this when I get an Xbox 360 and Rock Band!
Eventually!
greatslack @ Apr 1st 2008 11:43PM
What's also awesome is that silver members don't have to wait a week for this one.
Judd @ Apr 2nd 2008 8:07AM
This is great news, my 360 Red ringed on Sunday night and will be sent in this week for repair. I thought for sure I was going to have to buy 1600 points (because I won't put my credit card on the account) just to be able to buy this but now that I know it's free I'm happy once again.
umm....hello??? @ Apr 2nd 2008 1:27PM
dl'd it last night. love the song but it's too easy on expert(guitar and bass). have yet to try it for drums/vocals.
@Judd-
They're pretty quick to get you the coffin, repair and send it back. should take less than 2 weeks and they give you 1 month free gold membership card to input.
