Xbox 360 nearing two million sold in UK

UK sales monitor Chart-Track says that by next week the Xbox 360, is likely to have sold two million units in the UK since launching in December of 2005. GI.biz reports the recent price drop boosted sales for the console, with Chart-Track noting another boost over the Easter weekend. This was followed by a drop with the launch of the PS3's Gran Turismo 5: Prologue bundle.

According to Dorian Bloch, director of Chart-Track, Sony still has a way to go before overtaking Microsoft's console in the UK. Now, before the fanboys panic and call Panoramix for some potion, the PS3 hit the million unit sold mark this February (despite its high cost) after being available for a little under a year -- it took 60 weeks for the Xbox 360 to hit the same milestone.

I never realized the European market was so small. I guess this is why companies stick their releases on as an afterthought. :P

You forget that the United Kingdom isn't the only country in Europe.

The European market is potentially larger than the American one(712 million population) but it suffers from poor localisation.

These figures are only for the UK which has a population of about 60 million, which means 1 in 30 people in the UK has a 360, not a bad ratio I'd say.

Poor localization my ass: the real reason is because gaming is so damned expensive in Europe compared to anywhere else.

Is it just me or does that sound low for being out since Dec 05? I have a few friends on LIVE from UK, they are pretty cool.

What about in Japan, has it even sold 1 mill there? Anybody know? MS has the $$$ to hire some marketing guru and boost sales. Drop the price there and do Ace Combat6, Lost Oddysey and Ninja Gaiden 2 Bundles. Something. LOL!

Why do they dislike the 360 so much? So they love Metal Gear, but they dont like COD4/Haloz/Gears? It has to be those nifty sound effects when you alert the enemy lol!

Those Metal Gear enemy sounds are epic.

My friend works at a high street pawn shop and he says he is seeing an increasing number of people their Wiis and 360s. If you search hard enough you can find a 360 for £140 - which is cheap here, but people still don't want them. I think they've sold 360s to the majority of their targeted market. It's too much of an aggressive, testosterone console, or that's the perception.

I know about three friends that traded in their 360's to get PS3's. Now we all crack out on Warhawk. I still have my 360 but I still havent bought a game for it this year.

Yea, Im into FPS's (COD4, Bioshock, Halo3) but I also into 3rdPS, fighting, horror, racing, some sports, shmups, puzzle, retro oldschool. Im not sure where this Fenix=FPS's playing only came from, wierd...

Right now for 360 Im playing Dark Sector which is awesome BTW. Its Gears controls meets RE4. This game is very underated. For PS3 Ive been playing alot of Tekken Dark Resurection Online. I recently dl'd it. I love me some Tekken and cant wait for T6.

To answer your ? I saw that Warhawk is on sale for 2 weeks at $29.99. Im gonna be buying it probably this Friday comin up. I loved Warhawk for PS1 but dont think this is anythig like that right, but Ill be buying it for sure.

just got Dark Sector yesterday. I don't know what game reviewers were playing, but it definitely doesn't seem like the one I'm playing. I'm enjoying it a lot so far.

How is Tekken online? Any lag?

Theres not really any lag but there is a problem with getting into games. I get alot of error messages and it sends me back to the main screen while Im searching for matches. Not a big deal I still love it. What I need is a new headset my kids lost the one I had =(

Considering the GG : Shovelware ratio which now stands at about 10 : 1000, I refuse to qualify it as a console.

Glad I chose my 360 even though it was a tough one.

Consider those simple facts:

Everybody who wanted a 360 already owns one.
PS3 doesn't cost an equivalent of a 6-9 year old car anymore.

Well as I've had 2 360's RRoD on me, and I'm still putting up with it, think I'm doing quite well! I certainly propped the UK figures up by 1 extra console.

Interesting, but yet, not suprising.

Saying that, its a good thing the price has dropped, its attracting people.

But if the console of choice wants to win here in UK, make the next Fifa and Pro Evo exclusive to that console.

UHHM Playstaion 3 released in November of 2006, This past February is Februaury 2008, November 2006 until Februaury 2008 is well over a year, not a little under. And that is also over 60 weeks.

The PS3 launched in March or April in the UK and the rest of Europe, perhaps Australia too.

"2 million"+1 unless theres a PC GTA4 announced soon.

For some reason the PS3 does quite well here (UK, not mainland Europe, heavens no). Obviously not as well as Wii or DS but still.

Seeing as the PS3 got to a million quicker than thwe 360, I suspect the PS3 will also reach 2 million much quicker too.

This is just desperate spin. 2 million in 28 months IS NOT GOOD...

Theres plenty of room for more sales for 360. Ask the Playstation 2.

As for my thoughts on this joystiq community, it all wraps up quite well, it makes sense why there's so many 360 fanboys on a mission to bribe others to go their way.

fanboys are actually trying to make people believe the 360 is the nuts. thus trying to increase the install base/ mimmick the PS2 immense install base.

the 360 sales in comparision to the PS3 let alone Wii is a dismal. By now, the price point of the 360 and early release with a year of no competition should have helped it be WAY over the moon.

ITs funny at times when a PS3 has something positive, people suddenly become defensive as if its some threat against their beloved console. point at HB96st, fenando,
