DualShock 3 available next week, compatibility list released
Let's get ready to rumble! Sony's PlayStation Blog announced today that DualShock 3 controllers are currently shipping to North American stores and should be available next week. The controller originally had an April 15 release date attached to it, but can now be sold as soon as retailers receive them.
We've placed the full list of DualShock 3 compatible titles after the break; games with an asterisk require a patch (which will automatically download if you're connected online). Sony has also added a page to its official PlayStation site dedicated to listing titles with rumble. DualShock 3 compatible titles will have an icon on the box and the controller's suggested retail price is $55. For those who truly don't care about rumble, keep an eye out for falling Sixaxis prices.
Update: Edited piece after Sony let us know that the DualShock 3 compatibility page is live and confirmed the controllers can be sold as soon as retailers receive them.

I doubt you realize the IRONY of your comment.
You have the Wii, which is the BIGGEST JOKE of technology parading as a current generation system.
Fernando Rocker @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:23AM
Just like the PS2 had the worst technology in graphics last gen?
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:27AM
Rumble is last gen. We don't need it. Our customers don't want it. Nevermind this patent suit thats pending and if we put rumble in the sixaxis we wouldn't be able to sell the PS3 at all because of a court ordered halt on all sony controllers with rumble in it.
No. Its because tilt sensing and rumble are two mutually exclusive features, and tilt sensing is a next gen feature (because Nintendo is doing it and everybody seems to love it. Wait, you didn't hear us say that). Therefore, the NEXT GEN PLAYSTATION 3 will have tilt instead of rumble. Nevermind that the wiimote has tilt AND rumble.
Oh whats this. The suit is over. Well we've suddenly figured out how to put rumble and tilt in the same controller. This is REAL next gen. Nevermind all that crap we just spun for you about it not being next gen. Just forget we said it.
ALL HAIL KEN KUTARAGI!

Jagzi11a @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:54AM
Welcome to 1999. PS2 didn't have the worst graphic of last gen, the game cube did. It was on top when the dream cast died until the 360 came out.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:57AM
jagzilla really doesn't know what he's talking about.
Gamecube probably had 2 to 3 times the horsepower the PS2 had.
Fernando Rocker @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:58AM
Jagzi11a
Yeah, whatever you say. Please, search firts for some information and then we talk.
The Gamecube is a lot more powerful than the PS2. Every multiplatform game, has better graphics and framerate on other consoles than the PS2.
Just check reviews from multiplatform games. Viewtiful Joe PS2: jaggies, 30FPS. Gamecube version: 60FPS no jaggies. Resident Evil 4: PS2 version looks like shit, with no real time cutscenes.
na2ru1 @ Apr 2nd 2008 12:01PM
AA batteries is also an upto date top notch breakthrough.
Wish my ipod and mobile phone used AA batteries instead of reachargable.
Those tough durable lightweight headphones sure keeps a tight grip on the 360 control pad. Not even a dead man can undo the headphones. Its also pleasing when suddenly the headphones decide to de-syncronise when so many irritating teenagers yell in Live. Never thought i could mute them myself "please reconnect controller"..........ah i can hear and talk to them again.
MS hardware is cleverly top notch and i would love them to dominate the world with there cleverly thought technology.
(is tranando is MS girlfriend?)
WiiSports Machine...Fernandos in disguise PSN: Killjebus @ Apr 2nd 2008 12:11PM
Fernandos,
Comparing the Wii with the 360 and PS3 in terms of power is like comparing the PSone with the PS2.
In some ways the GameCube was more powerful than the PS2, in some ways it was not. Overall, the PS2, Xbox, and GameCube were in the same ballpark.
The Wii is NOT even in the same city much less ballpark with the PS3 and 360.
Crono,
Sony PR thought it was the best way to avoid talk about the lawsuit. And they thought (wrongly) that maybe Playstation fans will not care enough about rumble to complain about it.
Well, they were wrong, and now they have fixed it. I see no problem with that.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Apr 2nd 2008 12:16PM
Wow, that's great. Gamecube had 60fps Resident Evil 4? As one of the few owners of a Gamecube that had progressive out, that's great for me.
But given that over 80% of Gamecubes didn't even have progressive out capability, and for those who did, Nintendo had stopped selling the (expensive) cable a long time ago, it's pretty tough to argue the Gamecube had "more capabilities" in this area for people.
Whereas all PS2s could do 60fps out with cheap cables.
You sure have an interesting slant on things Fernando. Any particular reason why you think that pointing out a shortcoming right as it is about to be corrected is useful anyway?
We might as well blab about how Xbox Live doesn't support jump-in, jump-out online play. Well, it didn't before MS fixed it 18 months ago.
xFenixKnightx @ Apr 2nd 2008 12:52PM
Resident Evil 4 on Gamecube VS RE4 on PS2. The first screen is from Gamecube, then PS2.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qz0LbKpZtI
Blows the PS2 right outta there. Damn my little cube packed a punch back in the day. Sadly RE4 for Gamecube looks better than most Wii games.
Ripcord83 @ Apr 2nd 2008 12:54PM
I agree with Fernando, to a point.
Yes the PS2 was the worse of the bunch.
but did the Xbox, GCube & PS2 come out at the same time?
When I was younger I worked in a game store during those two launches, and dont remember the PS2 coming out too.
Oh yeah, It came out way before that.
Now im not talking smack to you one bit.
i have all 3 of them so its not a bias remark in anyway.
Fernando Rocker @ Apr 2nd 2008 12:56PM
@Fenix
Nice finding =p
xFenixKnightx @ Apr 2nd 2008 1:35PM
Thanks, yeah the Gamecube version looks alive and full of atmosphere. The PS2 version looks dead and lifeless with crappy textures.
I remember the first time I bought this game gor GC I was BLOWN AWAY and so were my buddies. I was like how the fudge did they do it? Then there were the spanish speaking zombie villagers (which I thought was fricken awesome and took no offense whatsoever too) that made me like the game more.
Thats why Im so hyped for RE5 on 360. It should be awesome. Ck this vid out 3min RE4 GC it makes me want to pop my GC verion in the Wii just to play it again for a little while.

Tiptup300 @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:38PM
The dual shock 3 is just two wiimotes duct-taped together.
xFenixKnightx @ Apr 2nd 2008 4:13PM

How bout NO!! If God of War were multiplatform you better believe that it would look better on GC. Shadow OTC although amazing as it was, wasnt a great looking game.
FAIL!
Vidikron (FU) @ Apr 2nd 2008 4:52PM
In that compison video Fenix posted I think the PS2 version actually looks better in the first two scenes. Actually, far and away better. The scenes after that though definitely favor the GC version.

Phil Ringsmuth @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:07AM
Well, I sure am glad that I'll finally be able to pay an additional $55 to replace the controller which came with my console in order to have technology that was last generation's standard practice.
Thanks Sony!
why not the LS2LS7? @ Apr 2nd 2008 12:18PM
Don't forget the Classic Controller.
Thanks Nintendo!
Thr3e2wenty8 @ Apr 2nd 2008 1:17PM
Yeah, Microsoft would NEVER do such a thing..HDMI?
Lets not get into nintendo, they have changed thier minds more often than anyone else.
(Cartridge/mini disk/CD/DVD)
why not the LS2LS7? @ Apr 2nd 2008 1:29PM
HDMI wasn't exactly "last generation's standard technology".
But frankly, MS is the worst offender when it comes to accessory costs if you ask me. $99 for WiFi? And the wireless racing wheel is junk at any price.
Let's face it, in an industry where losing money (or at least making none) on the initial sale is the norm, you're gonna see all the companies participating in trying to sell you a lot of high margin accessories.
BrokenMonkey @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:19PM
At least you can add a WiFi adapter to the 360, I feel bad for the people who got 20 GB PS3s and can't add WiFi. Also, I'm pissed that the PS3 can't connect to Ad-Hoc networks, which means I can't set up a WiFi network on my PC and connect my PS3 to it to play online (I can't use consoles on my dorm's Ethernet connection).
Synner @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:33PM
Buy a crossover cable (system link cable), get a 2nd Ethernet adapter (USB or PCI), Plug the Crossover cable into the PS3 and one of your Ethernet ports, Plug the school ethernet into the other Port.
Open Network connections.
Select the 2 ethernet connections.
Right click, select "bridge connections"
You're set.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Apr 2nd 2008 5:15PM
Broken Monkey:
There are plenty of 3rd party WiFi adapters that work with all Ethernet devices. They were very popular with original Xbox owners. And now people use them for their DirecTV recievers.
But if you needed WiFi, why did you buy a 20G?
baby sea tuna @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:09AM
While I still think it sucks that this costs almost as much as a game, I'll be picking one up to use as my primary controller (SIXAXIS FTL). I can only assume that something that I actually want to play is coming out eventually...
Phranctoast @ Apr 2nd 2008 12:05PM
no games comment ftw!
deaftly @ Apr 2nd 2008 2:09PM
Hot Shots is pretty fun, just make sure you have something to do to kill 30 minutes before you wanna play.
Co @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:10AM
Even if some don't care for rumble, it adds much needed weight to the controller.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:29AM
Thats for damn sure. Freaking sixaxis feels like it'll shatter if dropped.
Also feels cheap.
kbomb1upc @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:35AM
True... The DualShock3 weight feels prefect. Its just heavy enough and it conforms to your hand, unlike like the SIXAXIS that feels like at any moment it will fly out of your hands and attack your big screen TV all Wii-like.
xFenixKnightx @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:39AM
Good point Co, that thing feels like crap. Im buying one of these for sure. Hope the battery life lasts longer than the sixasses.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Apr 2nd 2008 12:22PM
The SIXAXIS may be light, but it doesn't feel like it's going to break if dropped. And in fact, it won't break if dropped. The SIXAXIS is built rather well actually, and adding more parts isn't going to make it more reliable, especially since these new parts are heavy and will thus likely tear loose from their mountings before the chips on the board do.
I have a DS3, and the extra weight doesn't bother me, but there's no actual advantage to a controller just simply being heavier (as opposed to more sturdy) and so the extra weight is something I live with and not something I prefer.
Hyams @ Apr 2nd 2008 12:30PM
I dropped my Sixaxis and it broke. (I drop it a lot actually; because it's wireless I like to throw in the air as a celebration when I win). The side of it came 'opened up', and the right trigger got stuck.
Thankfully banging it against a wall fixed it. :)
Maverick Saturn @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:14AM
What? So Genji and Lair get no rumble, well thats just bang out of order, just when I was beginning to think rumble would change the way I play Genji forever :O
GumbyX84 @ Apr 2nd 2008 2:23PM
A friend of mine who got a DS3 imported said Lair does support it. Me thinks Sony threw this list together after the figured out that stores probably weren't going to wait till the proper launch day to sell these and make bucket-loads of money (with Sony making about 5x that themselves).
Matt B @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:15AM
Look at all the grumble for the rumble.
WiiSports Machine...Fernandos in disguise PSN: Killjebus @ Apr 2nd 2008 11:23AM
It's comical isn't it. Everyone knows that the REAL reason for the lack of FFB was because of a lawsuit that has since been settled.
Now, I will buy 2 of these and have 4 controllers. And I can "give" my 2 sons the Sixaxis controllers.

Unlike alot of the whiners and babies on Joystiq, I understand what you said cannot HURT me. I understand that it was a JOKE and that they are just words. I also understand that even if you were NOT joking, I could care less what you say because they are JUST words.
Please do not feel if you need to hold back. I rather enjoy the harmless banter back and forth.
Now STFU and go stick your Wiimote up your ass. (remember, just words)
