How does one even begin to justify the definition of a "waste of time"?

I want the 3 minutes I spent reading this lunatic's rant back.

How DARE anyone do anything that isn't a direct contribution to society!

I contribute to society all the time. I scare old ladies out of exercising in malls by following them and barking. Those withered old bags leave the safety of mall walking and get right back out in the street where they are more statistically liable to be hit by a car and help unburden the social security system of this country....

Everyone knows that, and:

Reading is like taking LSD
Watching David Attenborough documentaries are like taking Crystal Meth
Listening to intellectual conversations on the radio is like taking Amphetamine (Speed)

In fact most things are like taking drugs - they stmulate the brain like drugs do.

Mr Mobious your comment started well but the end was dreadful.

Anyway

This, my friends is called an infinite loop:

1. Something cool surges (Music, Entertainment, comics, videogames etc)
2. People are against it (Churches, Radio , Right wing nut jobs, Democrats or just people in general)
3. The people who like it respond with invalid arguments or exaggerating the issue way out of proportion.
4. The opposition responds with arguments way more exaggerated and way more stupid
5. The people who like it respond against it depending on the action of the opposition.

6. The opposition keeps hating’

7. 3,4,5 and 6 repeats until the whole thing gets old and no one gives a crap until something new surges.

Remember when people used to blame Pokémon, Magic the gathering and Marylyn Manson. Rofl…Good Times.

And on a side note: scarily I agree with most of Fernando's opinions. It either means I'm also a Nintendo Fanboy - needless to say only ever had Ninty consoles - or he is getting more inciteful in his old age.

You pretend to be an OBGYN and try to stick your head up the girl's love canal and lick the fetus.

Immersion.

Well, in one regard he does have a point -- video games don't do much in the respect of making life any better, specifically your own. Just like heroine and teenage pregnancy.

But, since I play video games, I'll deride this guy as an old, senile idiot. If I ever kick the habit, then I'll side with him. But until then, HOW DARE HE insult my wasteful habit!

However, with video games, you're -probably- not going to go out and steal stuff to sell to buy more games.

Now, for drugs... well, you go into withdrawals because you become physically addicted. Then... the theft begins! ;D

Yeah, playing videogames is a waste of time and should be given up. Just like watching a movie or reading a novel.

Entertainment is for losers! Everyone should work, work, and only work.

Oooooh, so thats why I was hearing a baby crying, it was my gf having a teenaged pregnancy while I was doing smack and playing COD4.

Silly me, I should have known.

What is this guy on? He doesn't need to do smack, hes got smack naturally flowing through his blood.

You completely missed the guys point. He was not saying that games are as ...; as he said was that he doesnt need to be 10 hour/day WOW geek in order to justify his opinion. Likewise, when you say that certain shows on tv are terrible (all reality shows) you dont need to have seen every second of every episode to make that judgement. Thats his point.

Of course that was his point. But just because you think something is a waste of time doesn't mean you should compare it to activities that have the ability to ruin the rest of your life from just one incident.

I guarantee that him barring his kids from any form of entertainment that ALL THEIR FRIENDS PARTAKE IN will only make them bitter and resentful. Why not be a parent and moderate playtime? If he's talking about a DS (Hard to tell when these uninformed twits use "Nintendo" as a synonym for any video game platform...) Just keep the charger and only recharge the system every other week. There ya go, moderated.
