Gears of War 2 appearing at this month's NY Comic Con

Though it's hard to imagine anything more exciting than obtaining The Hulk's autograph or shaking hands with Iron Man (watch out for that palm beam!), this month's New York Comic Con will also give attendees a glimpse of upcoming testosterone-fueled chainsaw epic, Gears of War 2. The convention will host a special "preview" of the Xbox 360 shooter on Sunday, April 20th, delivered courtesy of Michael Capps, president of Epic Games and Joshua Ortega, a man described as a "writer" for Gears of War 2. Must be some in-joke we don't get.

The New York Comic Con will take place from April 18th to April 20th at the Jacob Javits Center. In New York.

Sadly I won't be attending. I wish I had more time/opportunities to travel to these events, but I have a pretty packed schedule at work.

Thank Jeebus (not wiisports-fernandos-krrazzzy ken) for the intarwebz though for being able to pretty much bring it home to me. Though it's never quite as exciting as actually being on the ground floor =(

GT5P sold 350,000 on last weekend... I doubt it will sell 650,000 more on this weekdays.

The bet was because everyone was saying that GT5P will sell a million in the first day in EU, but thats impossible with an install base so low.

The 1 million preorder thing is just publicity... a way to spin the news. Maybe it was a million preorders to retailers. Same thing happened to Mario Galaxy in JP... 800,00 pre-orders, only 250,000 sold.

But I take other bets too: Mario Kart Wii will sell more on first week in USA than GT5P in his first week in USA.

Other convos are GT5P, GTA4, Gears 2, and the new FIFA, I wager you that FIFA09 will beat all of these. UK sales alone :)

I wonder if most of the backgrounds will be static this time around. And I wonder how much more CliffyB can sqeeze out of the DVD9.

Gears2 will be another stellar title in the 360's lineup.

I agree. They both quality games, but Gears of Wars was incredibly successful for its first outing, and there's no doubt the second one will sell extremely well. Not to mention that it's still fresh, considering the first Gears of War should only be a couple years apart.

My ego and my life will still be here if Gears outsells MGS4. Fernandos most important thing in life is Nintendo, mine.....skihnope, not so much.

I played through Gears recently, and i think the story was perfect for the game. They could've opted for no story what-so-ever, since the gameplay was highly entertaining, but they didn't. They did it in the same way that the first halo did, which was kind of drop story hints while you play. I hope they don't bog the second one down with useless BS like what happened with Halo 2.

MGS is probably in the top 3 of my favorite games series', but the game leaves little room for expansion. Everyone went ape shit when Raiden was the main character instead of Solid Snake in MGS2 (even though he was still the main character). Since the characters are so unique with there one distinct personalties, It's hard to branch a game like that off into different genres without watering it down like crazy.

Whats the point? If Gears 2 sells more than MGS 4 does that make it a better game? Look how many copies that POS Wii game has sold. Mario and Sonic at the Olympics. Wow sales sure are a fantastic barometer of how good a game is... *sigh*

As far as graphics, from the last tech demo of the game I saw it wasn't a majorly impressive leap. The water they were showing off was rightly impressive though.

Not so sure about gameplay, the first one seemed to nail a lot of things pretty squarely on the head, though it's not a top favorite of mine.

There's always room for improvement and Epic doesn't generally disappoint too horribly =P

That tech demo was using Gears 1's character models and maps though. I wasn't expecting any increase in polygon count or quality of the textures in it.

Looking at the tech demo it gives away alot of clues. In Gears 2 we should expect the following...

Better environment lighting
Better character lighting and rendering
More characters on screen
Destructible environments
Way more realistic water
Better in-game cinematics

All of this with the added touch of Epics excellent creative art dept and Gears 2 is gonna blow peeps away.

I think Gears 2 should stack up to be a pretty solid game. I just hope Epic holds up on their end and really utilizes some of the new features displayed at GDC. In my opinion, the graphics for Gears are just fine for a LONG time, but as long as they keep the game fresh and "next gen" in terms of realism, I think it'll keep from getting too stale. Can't wait!

If the entire convention were about a dying art (comics) it would last all of half an hour. I love comics but they are dying and only have a small niche now in popular culture.

In my opinion video games have not only replaced comics but have almost become moving comics. We are the characters. I see a lot of similarities between the medieums so they certainly belong together.

The convention has been around a while and a rename would only hurt its image.
