@ FenixKnight

Ok I will try to be nice here because we are cordial now and pseudo buddies. I understand Gears Of War is your favorite game. Heck, your name says it all. So I can understand your anticipation and excitement for the game. But, let me tell you something about myself. The MGS series is my favorite genre, game and whatever you want to call it of all time. The way you like Gears is the way I have liked MGS since the 1st one dropped. I have beat all of the games and I even bought the essentials collection which I am playing through now.

Judging from some of your earlier comments I am going to assume you have never played a MGS game all the way through or never at all. So if I am correct in that respect how can you even have an opinion about how hard the story is to follow? The thing about the MGS games is they all go together. I could understand trouble with the DMC franchise chronology because each game jumps to a different time frame in the games universe. However, if you played through the previous MGS games the story flows perfectly. If you only played Snake Eater for instance then yes it will be harder to follow the story. But thats like jumping into Star Wars from the second film and not understanding the story. You cant understand the story if you haven't watched it unfold from the beginning. Just like you can't really appreciate the story as well.

I liked the first Gears Of War and i thought it was a super fun buddy multiplayer game. However, IMO the story was nothing more than a futuristic alen flick (like starship troopers meets riddick). As I said I liked the game for its multiplayer but the campaign mode in my opinion was trash. Even General Raam being the final boss just felt like an insult. Now, I am of the opinion that the first Gears game was really meant to be a multiplayer game with the campaign added at the last minute. So as far as Gears 2 goes I am expecting a lot in terms of actual story that I did not get in Gears Of War I.

I have seen no proof that the tech demonstration at GDC will represent changes in Gears Of War II. Those were simply updates to the actual engine. It stands to reason that you could see all of those things in Gears 2. However, if work on Gears 2 has been going on since before Gears 1 was even finished (rumored) then I do not expect to see all the enviornments destructible, 100 locust on screen, dynamic lighting and actual water effects. I think it will be somewhere in the middle of what we saw in the demo and what was in Gears 1. Just my opinion.

I think both games will be great but they are in a sense completely opposite. Gears of War was a game with a fantastic online component (albeit 4 on 4 is not enough) and a tacked on single player mode that certainly had its moments but overall was not a fun experience and had no replay. MGS is a franchise that has always been about the single player campaign mode and sneaking around instead of the blow em away approach in gears. This time around Kojima is attempting to add changes to suit other players like an online component (stand alone) and a FPS mode.

I know you like Assassins Creed and if thats true you should be able to love MGS 4 even more if it lives up to the hype (I think it will win GOTY). Again its all a matter of opinion but I am anticipating both games for different reasons.

In a way we are opposites but very similar. We both have all 3 consoles except you seem to prefer the 360 where as I favor the PS3. I respect your opinion as I do anybody elses on this site. I just think your hating on MGS 4 for the sake of defending Gears 2 which is not necessary. Hopefully they are both fantastic games in their own right.

Whats up buddy =)

Heres a funny thing about my Gamertag. When I first joined LIVE and created my gamertag it was this xXPhoenixXx because of the bird, NOT because of Gears. Gears of War hadn't even came out yet, that would be dumb. I love Gears, but I also love Ninja Gaiden, Assassins Creed, COD4, the whole Halo series, SO many other games but I get pegged and its annoying sometimes of course. Sometimes I dont even wanna post on a Gears thread because Ill get the losers trying to call me out but whatever. I think Im a bigger COD4 fan than Gears as you can see Ive had more COD4 avatars than Gears realated ones.

Back to the Phoenix thing. Ever since back in the day on Saturday morning cartoons on X-men (member that, awesome huh) you know when Jean Gray would get the Dark Phoenix power and all that well I just had never heard of that and it really interesting to me. This mythology of resurection and all. You get it right?

Anyway I had Phoenix for a while and I would always get asked over LIVE "Hey Phoenix so are you from like...Phoenix AZ?" Id reply "uhh, no its based on the bird...you know reborn from the ashes and so on and so fourth." So anyway it became so annoying because my buddies started calling me Pheonix Arizona over live because I would get that all thefricken time, and I was like, BS!!

Long story short Gears eventually came out and yes I loved it and the main character just so happen to be named Marcus FENIX so I was like (lightbulb) screw this Im changing it to xXFenixXx, my buddies were like NOOOOOOOOO. lol So then one day I was browsing games and I saw the game Phoenix Wright and it just clicked to me, hey Fenix Knight sound cool. And thus the man, the myth, the legend was born. =P Annoying right?

Well that whole deal about Gears selling more was just to get KrazyKen all riled up. Here is my history and experience with Metal Gear. I had Metal Gear on NES and let me tell you it was just about one of the best games I had ever played on NES. Getting key cards to open doors and gas masks, the music the military aspect and just the whole experience was awesome to me. Then When I heard Metal Gear for PS1 was coming out I got real excited because hey I loved the real part one =P I remember playing the demo of MGS on PSX b4 it dropped and I loved it. The style and the story was great. Then part two was pretty good but I noticed I wasnt as hyped and then part 3 I had the demo but never bought it. I just, lost interest for some reason. Either way, yes I DO know the story is KAYRAZY like Ken.

Honestly Jpoop, can I call you that? Ive already said Im most likely buying MGS4. It looks like they are breathing some new life and some new ideas into it. Im also wanting it for Metal Gear Online. That, and I have to justify my PS3 purchase right? Haha kidding!! So there you have it sir. Do what you will with it.

ONE MORE THING!!!!

Not that anyone in this thread said it but I am tired of hearing "UT3 looks like Gears Of War" "UT3 ripped off the Gears characters" blah blah blah... Anyone over the age of 17 knows that Gears directly rook from UT... There was not a rip off anywhere its just the art style.. But to say UT3 ripped off Gears annoys the piss out of me... I prefer UT3 to Gears actually especially with the mods and what not... Its much faster and has no melee but I like the game a bit better... They are both terrific games but it comes down to preference... try playing UT3 with the action cam and then tell me Gears Of War is a better game... Well maybe you will still like it better but you know what I mean
