What maneuvers exactly? We're not quite sure, but the new mid-air tricks probably aren't among them -- A Link to the Future notes that an IGN preview specifically mentions Classic and Gamecube controller users can hit the d-pad to perform those. We find it hard to imagine that the plethora of joysticks and buttons on the alternate control schemes can't replicate the controls of the somewhat button-free design of the Wii Remote. Could this be an effort to encourage more use of the
From the fact sheet:
Control: Mario Kart Wii is compatible with four different control schemes, so players can customize how they want to play:
- Wii Remote Controller (with or without Wii Wheel): Steer by tilting the Wii Remote left and right. Or snap the Wii Remote into the Wii Wheel to transform it into a steering wheel for an intuitive, motion-based control scheme.
- Nunchuk Controller: Steer with the Control Stick on the Nunchuk and use the Wii Remote to accelerate, perform tricks and drift.
- Classic Controller: Mario Kart veterans can let their thumbs do the driving with the Classic Controller. However, players cannot perform certain moves with this control scheme.
- Nintendo GameCube™ Controller: Experienced Mario Kart fans may also enjoy this familiar scheme, although some maneuvers cannot be performed.

Maybe we should change subject now.
Oh wait, you were making that up.
Roast beef? Really?
The features missing are motion for the tricks (obviously)... you need to press the D-Pad on the Gamecube controller in any directon while in mid-air).
And other missing feature is the IR Pointer for menus.

With the Gamecube controller you just move the analog joystiq forward.
what kind of stupid person would use joy...
ill shut up now :)

Yahzee made a good point when reveiwing Zack and Wiki, sometimes obvious commands are ignored, other times commands that would be cool are ignored. Wii boxing for example has no uppercuts, roundhouse punches etc ¬_¬

I've done it, as have most of the people I've played with.
Only tools and Sephiroth fans (same thing) don't use the wheel imo.

For people like me, who are playing their first console Mario Kart, it will be a great leveller for online play. Assuming you get some sort of boost or bonus from these "certain moves", it would seem everybody will have an equal chance at winning.
Getting pwned by some 13year old with all the time in the world isn't that fun. This control limit seems like a good idea.
This game is going to be so cool and it's only a week or so away.

$250 for Brawl and Mario Kart and eventually a decent Mario Party isn't that bad. I expect nothing more from a Nintendo console. It's the way it has always been.
But fuck the wii-mote. I had full intentions of getting a classic controller with modded handgrips and a gamecube controller if I ever buy one.

There are no missing moves. It's a misundestood. Yes, there are some missing features, like IR Pointer or motion, by the fact that the Gamecube or Classic controller doesnt have motion or IR Pointer.
Meaning I can do all of the same things, I just won't have motion BS?
There are several full reviews, because this game is going to be released next week in JP and EU.
There are no missing moves... just missing motion "features", but are replaced with buttons. And the missing IR Pointer, obviously, but thats just to navigate the menus.
Mario Kart only needs a button for accelerate, brake, throw weapons and power slide. And now, in this version, they only added the mid air stunts. When you are in mid-air, you just need to press any direction in the d-pad with the Gamecube controller, or shake the Wii-Remote.
first you take out snaking (instead of leaving it as an optional online mode) and now this?
that $15 plastic piece of shit wheel should be waggled up Iwata's ass for prioritizing the casual/non-gamer over the hardcore gamer.

I mean, anything Nintendo does has to be an improvement over last-gen, but its the REAL gamers who are going to keep on buying games after Wii-fit is done and every soccer-mom has Wii sports. They can't abandon us completely.
I'm glad it's gone.
I hated playing race after race on Delfino Square because that was THE snaking stage. So annoying. It's just like when I go to play people in Brawl, and I'll get 20 consecutive matches on final destination, because EVERYONE wants some watered down, blah, plain-jane stage in the name of being "hardcore".
Save that shit for tournaments.
Wouldn't a smarter person try to shoehorn in a Jamie Oliver reference since he's healthy but some people have a giant rage against him?
If anything isn't the 360 the Macdonalds console since there are no motion controls (STFU about that camera, stretch-your-arms-out game)? Hmm hmm?
You're spot on there. Playing Brawl on final destination without items is like playing Bioshock without plasmids. It's removing the game's most unique aspects.
Your Nintendo phobia must be stressful for you and your loved ones.. But remember as weird and detached as you must feel right now you are not alone.. There are others like you.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjxOt2u2BGM&feature=related
moving on...

Plus Shag's mom smells like roast beef, and I'm guess like old mayonaisse as well.
And Shag, -1 for the smells like roast beef comment. Not because I didn't laugh, I did, but because, well just because, ewww. Alright yeah I laughed quite a bit, +1 instead.

It's likely time where I should just go ahead and bookmark the link to the 'do our comment system work lolz' article so I could just paste it in here at times like this.

You didn't even try. No effort.
You need a gimmick. Curmeo has Nintendonald's. What's yours? Shall I help you create one?
no, that's Microsoft.
Nintendy's?
Nintarbys?
Bob Nintevans?
Nintendobee's?
Nintendcastle?
Intendo 'n' Out Burger?
Maybe the technology is just ahead of its time? Maybe with Wii 2, you'll physically point at the screen instead of "finding" the cursor at the sensor bar. Maybe gesturing will be 100-percent reliable. Would these things spur on the revolution we all thought was here, or is motion-control destined to never fully replace buttons? I don't know.
But the remains will be felt. If anyone winds up using that awkward dual-analogues scheme for FPS's next generation in lieu of some sort of pointer tech, I will be very surprised
The waggle (shake Wiimote to do "x") sort of thing isn't, but the tilt and the pointer have made their mark, quite well
