Chris O'Donnell joins Max Payne cast
As each member has been added to the cast of the Max Payne film, we've been progressively more impressed by the Hollywood weight being thrown behind it. But the addition of Chris O'Donnell? That's a wash. Sure, we like O'Donnell, but his name isn't exactly a box office draw. (Oh, Batman & Robin, if you're reading this, we still totally hate you.)What is interesting is that O'Donnell will be playing executive Jason Colvin, which isn't a name we recognize. That has us wondering: How important is fidelity to the original plot for you? Would you rather they stick by it, or just do what works for the film?

I hope he dies a Painful on-screen death in the Max Payne movie....God....I hated Batman and Robin SO bad.

Speaking of painful, The Hitman film was painful. So was Doom. And the Resident Evils. They are making a mistake by releasing this film.

I saw Batman & Robin on opening day way back when and it f--kin' sucked.
But when I see it on TV now (well, when I had TV), it isn't so bad. I think it's because there are commercials now and it's like coming up for air or something.
I had that same phenomena with the USA Godzilla movie and Office Space.

Sure the movie was terrible, but O'Donnell was able to make doing laundry look almost fun. If that's not acting, I don't know what is.

Wait, this guy still has a career? How can this be?!

The fidelity of the plot is important to me, but I find movies based on video games are rarely about presenting the same story that was told in the game. If the writing/acting and feel are solid, I think this one has potential. Besides, Mark Wahlberg has developed some standards lately, he's been taking some good roles.

At least the Batman movies have taken a major turn for the better, Christian Bale is the best Batman since Keaton.
Max Payne really deserves some good treatment, and yet I predict that it will not get it. This will probably just end up being another game to movie transition that is pummeled into the ground oh so hard. And this is still after having Mark Wahlberg, who I think was a great choice.
And Mila Kunis...I'm not sure, but she's still hot!

Meh, I don't really mind O'Donnell. He was good in that Al Pacino movie, granted that was about 15 years ago. I know that it's every gamer nerd's dream to just have the game's plot almost perfectly translated onscreen, but it's probably not for the best. I'm guessing that ODonnell might be some kind of modified version of the Nicole Horne/Aesir Corp. part of the plot for Max Payne 1.
This movie aint gonna be any kind of Hollywood masterpeice, but as long as they're able to capture the gritty Max Payne mood, it should still be worthwhile. They can either make a tongue-in-cheek overblown almost noir-parody reflecting Max Payne 1, or they can go for a bit more of a mature story in Max Payne 2.
My bet is that they're probably just going to make a cookie-cutter action revenge flick with lots of metal riffs and slow-motion.

I'm beginning to hope for this movie. I also think that coming out so late after the game is a good thing, as it won't just be a cash-grab to get in on the latest hot trend. Hopefully Markie Mark (who must be sick of that nickname by now) choose this because it had potential, and not because he thought it'd be fun to shoot.
dabamf @ Apr 3rd 2008 3:16PM
I usually think it's best to stick to the source plot as soon as possible, but Max Payne was so much of enter room, clear out bad guys, exit room, repeat. You need to add a bit more depth there if you want a good plot.
samfish @ Apr 3rd 2008 3:23PM
O'Donnell's career
Much like high tide jelly fish
Is now all washed up.

FPS games should not be the first on the list for movies. And no, I don't care about the plot. Max Payne was about the technology (bullet time) not plot.
ViagraFiend @ Apr 3rd 2008 4:24PM
They just better have the part where his following the blood trail in the dark with the screaming baby at the end.
theturtle363 @ Apr 3rd 2008 4:31PM
I just watched Batman and Robin yesterday. I don't really know why, i should have turned it off as soon as it started but it was like watching America's Funniest Home videos right before the football hits the guy in the balls
Kangstarr @ Apr 3rd 2008 5:53PM
I wonder if Chris O'Donnell will have to wear a leather jacket with fake nipples on it...
Thr3e2wenty8 @ Apr 3rd 2008 6:05PM
Was never interested enough in Max Payne to ever try the game so if I see the movie I can't be crushed it has nothing to do with the game.
My favorite is the comic book movie that has an officially licenced game that is more like the comic than the movie (see Spiderman 2)
dayuse @ Apr 3rd 2008 8:41PM
NOOOOOOooooo...
Max Payne still stands as one of my favourite games of all time.
This is why I am sad.
Chris O'Donnell makes me sad.
I hope this movie doesn't make me sad.
kaseytiger @ Apr 3rd 2008 8:44PM
Chris O'Donnell......yay?
