Def Leppard in Guitar Hero IV confirmed
We're sorry to doubt the messengers of Rock Gods, but we finally got our own confirmation that Def Leppard has indeed contributed three songs to Guitar Hero IV. While not replaying the full interview, Rockline Radio's website did provide a stream of the bandmates talking specifically about the game.
"We're gonna have like three songs on Guitar Hero IV," said guitarist Phil Collen, before specifying "Photograph," "Animal" and "Rock of Ages." We've gone ahead and embedded the music videos after the break for those who want to rock out in this post.

HI-YO!!!
comment of the day belongs to you!
Autopsy15 @ Apr 3rd 2008 9:32PM
Def Leppard has 5 members? Er...4 and 1/2?
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Apr 4th 2008 2:15AM
Beat me to it. Although I thought it was "7 arms" because they had 4 members?
PojoMofo @ Apr 4th 2008 10:10AM
That is probably why Def Leppard didnt opt to go the Rock Band route, the drumming parts would be way easy for us 2-armed folks.
icedrgn027 @ Apr 4th 2008 5:20PM
I dont think these comments are appropriate for a band that basically helped define an era.
As far as Rick only having one arm. Anyone that has seen him in concert or knows anything about how he does what he does would know that his drumming parts are actually too technologically advanced for rock band's drum kit unless they simply make it a 2 handed part. you cant just simply play a leppard drum beat with one hand, it would take someone on a regular set both hands.
And in my honest opinion, if you gave rick his other arm back at this point he would have the potential to be one of the best if not the very best drummer ever, since he doesnt even need both hands at this point to play most 2 handed parts.
Quinn @ Apr 3rd 2008 8:08PM
i bet this is gonna be dlc
P-Dude @ Apr 3rd 2008 8:08PM
Does that mean they'll be in the Aerosmith GH, or a separate title named IV?
Rob Accomando @ Apr 3rd 2008 8:15PM
WOw, can't wait for Guitar Hero V announcements soon!
Random Guy @ Apr 3rd 2008 8:18PM
They're only in Guitar Hero cuz nobody would want to play the drum bits in Rock Band.
meledeo @ Apr 3rd 2008 9:31PM
Not that you aren't funny, but I think all of these songs were recorded before the "incident".
Also, this seems relevant (just skip to 2:15).

Animal is off the Hysteria album, after the drummer lost his arm.

I guess if I watched the first 30 seconds of that video I could have seen it myself. Oh well, I stand corrected.
Moffka @ Apr 3rd 2008 8:19PM
How many of you guys here would say Guitar Hero is now dead to you and Rock Band is now where it's at? Especially since Activision is doing whatever it can to run the series into the ground.
jsn @ Apr 3rd 2008 8:28PM
It's hard not to say it. The series went from offering lots of variety in the music and challenging gameplay to chasing hasbeens to make a cash-in, greatest hits game. Now they're loading up guitar hero 4 with multiple songs from one band? It just screams cash in. Rock Band has raised the bar and is better in every respect. Guitar Hero has effectively become little more than 1/4 of a game.
Farseer (GDI) @ Apr 3rd 2008 11:37PM
I'm certainly with you. Seriously, Guitar Hero just feels like a quarter of a full game anymore.
Zaphod @ Apr 22nd 2008 7:44AM
Oh Please, you comment on throwing three songs by one artist in the game? Enjoying that Boston six-pack? Douche.
teknohed @ Apr 3rd 2008 8:20PM
Deepening disinterest in the Guitar Hero franchise...Confirmed!!!
shawn @ Apr 3rd 2008 8:26PM
so guitar hero 4 confirmed? wow like i didnt see this coming. i wish activision would stop trying to earn its money back so fast. but like they say, tough titty said the kitty 'till the milk....ran dry...
fuzzy @ Apr 3rd 2008 8:32PM
Ha, if there were a Rock Band DLC for Def Leppard, the drum track would be really easy to play. ;p
KeenCommander @ Apr 3rd 2008 8:39PM
My interest in Guitar Hero IV is now official down 15%. Let's hope they're just talking DLC.

Mrblonde @ Apr 4th 2008 3:20AM
Yes Tiptup... Yes it would be. It seriously would be.
mackid105 @ Apr 3rd 2008 9:15PM
you know i'd like to see all you guys making fun of the drummer try to do what he is, that's just wrong to talk about him like that. anyways i'm still in for GH you get more of those great guitar part songs rather than having songs where the hard part is alternating, then again that could have something to do with me owning a wii.
mikull @ Apr 3rd 2008 9:17PM
As a Wii owner, I had great hopes for trying out Rock Band... and then Harmonix dropped the no DLC/online play bomb. Flame me if you like, but right now GH is still fun for me.

It's strange, I thought Guitar Hero was the cat's banana's only 6 months ago. Then GH3 came out, and I pretty much lost all interest at that point. GH3 is nothing like the previous versions, it felt like Madden, rushed out the doors to cash in, no "soul" that gushed from the previous versions.
Shortly after, I got Rock Band, and now GH is completely dead to me. Screw you, EActivision.
Chris @ Apr 3rd 2008 10:50PM
This is great news !!! Ive only played GH III which I think is really fun but some of the music is just crap - Activision, why didnt you put them as a DLC in GH III ??? Rather than hyping the next game, FOCUS on the current one ofr at least a year !!!! More DLC is needed...and real guitar hero bands - Rage against the machine/Beastie Boys WTF ??
Kayel @ Apr 3rd 2008 10:42PM
Wow, lots of undeserved hate. Def Leppard still rocks harder than most current bands. Guitar Hero III wasn't THAT bad. Maybe people just forgot how good of a game Guitar Hero II was. It wasn't that great, it was just a new idea. It seems like people wanted a totally new experience from Guitar Hero III, and short of putting a drunken crowd in your living room, there wasn't much to be expanded on. They added the duel system, which was pretty fun once you got used to it, and they put in a good way to distribute DLC. Weren't more songs what we really wanted after 5 starring everything in the game? Rock Band just captured our attention again because they added the new element of multiple instruments. It's the same thing as giving us the guitar to begin with. It turned the same idea we saw in games like Parappa into a new experience that was more realistic. You can't really compare Guitar Hero and Rock Band though. It's like comparing Guitar Hero to Parappa, they both do the rhythm thing, but Guitar Hero gives us a guitar to play. It's a totally different experience.
I really don't get this recent hostility between brands. Why can't you just play and enjoy both? I enjoy playing Guitar Hero and Rock Band, just like I enjoy playing both my PS3 and my 360 (though my Wii is just a bit dusty...). The whole fanboy warfare is just getting a bit old. It's manufacturer's jobs to fight over who is better, not ours. We're supposed to game and enjoy gaming, not waste hours of our lives in online pissing matches over what's better. We don't have any horses in that race. It's not like your 360 is going to get better if you convince everyone that it's better. Nor is your PS3 going to get a better library if you convince some dumb 12 year olds in an online forum that the games are coming. How about a little more solidarity in doing what sites like this are meant to do: giving subjective reviews to determine whether or not we should spend our money, and keeping ourselves up to date on what's going on in the gaming world.
Donald @ Apr 3rd 2008 11:37PM
tl;dr

Bearxor @ Apr 4th 2008 8:27AM
"Wow, lots of undeserved hate. Def Leppard still rocks harder than most current bands."
I agree.. I'd love to see some Def Leppard... In Rock Band
"Guitar Hero III wasn't THAT bad."
Yes it was.
"Maybe people just forgot how good of a game Guitar Hero II was. It wasn't that great, it was just a new idea. It seems like people wanted a totally new experience from Guitar Hero III, and short of putting a drunken crowd in your living room, there wasn't much to be expanded on."
What made Guitar Hero 1 & 2 great was song selection. GH3 song selection SUCKED.
"They added the duel system, which was pretty fun once you got used to it,"
No.
"and they put in a good way to distribute DLC."
What DLC?
"Weren't more songs what we really wanted after 5 starring everything in the game?"
Yeah, but not crappy thrash metal songs. We actually wanted good songs that were fun to play.
"Rock Band just captured our attention again because they added the new element of multiple instruments. It's the same thing as giving us the guitar to begin with."
No, Rock Band "captured our attention again" because it was fun to play. The complete opposite of GH3.
"You can't really compare Guitar Hero and Rock Band though. It's like comparing Guitar Hero to Parappa, they both do the rhythm thing, but Guitar Hero gives us a guitar to play. It's a totally different experience."
Whaaaa... I was with you about comparing GH to Parappa, but comparing GH to RB is very easy and makes perfect sense. They both set out to accomplish the same thing. Except one actually succeeds.
"I really don't get this recent hostility between brands. Why can't you just play and enjoy both?"
I enjoy playing both. As long as you don't count GH3. I still play GH2. GH3 is actually completely in the box, guitar and all, on a shelf in my closet where it has resided for the last 6 months. I think the hostility comes because Activision and Neversoft have taken what was a great franchise and ran it into the ground after only one try.
"It's manufacturer's jobs to fight over who is better, not ours."
Ummm... Yeah it is. Do you think manufacturers get together and one of them just decides, 'Hey, you know what, you're better than us. GG sir!' No, it's decided by us.
The rest of it sounds like you're trying to run for gaming community president or something...
Kayel @ Apr 4th 2008 10:17AM
Ok, you trolled just about everything I said, but didn't really make an argument.
What about Guitar Hero III was THAT bad? Just the song selection? Are you telling me that you deem a game inferior because it doesn't suit your music preference? That is by no means an absolute argument. A lot of people actually like a lot of the songs in the game, and if I recall correctly, before either GH3 or RB came out, people seemed more partial to the GH3 play list. I certainly don't recall an overabundance of thrash metal. You don't have to like the duel system, but I thought it was fun.
As for comparing GH and RB, I don't see how you can justify direct comparisons. The analogy I was trying to make is that even though Parappa and Guitar Hero are both good games in the same genre, Guitar Hero does something that Parappa didn't that makes it a totally different game. Rock Band adds dimensions that GH doesn't even try to add, and that makes it hard to compare.
Regarding DLC, I'll refer you to wikipedia and kindly ask you to STFU:
"Since the game's release, downloadable songs from Aerosmith, Avenged Sevenfold, Boston, Deftones, Die Fantastischen Vier, Dropkick Murphys, Extremoduro, Foo Fighters, Foreigner, Journey, Linkin Park, Mastodon, No Doubt, The Used, Thrice, Trust, Velvet Revolver, the game's boss battles, and a metal version of the Christmas carol (technically an Epiphany carol) "We Three Kings" (by Steve Ouimette) were made available for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 releases. The Halo theme song was only made available for the Xbox 360 release."
As for the brand argument, no it's not our place to fight to make one brand or another better. I don't get what the point of that is, honestly. We have no horses in that race at all. The marketing departments at each respective company is responsible for that, as they actually stand to make a gain. I don't know what anyone here gains from trolling about how they enjoy their 360 a lot more than some other guy enjoys his PS3. I don't see why the console wars need to extend past the companies themselves.
I'm not trying to run for president, I'm just trying to talk a little sense into the general population so we can maybe get a little maturity instead of constant, pointless bickering about what system/brand is better.
Bearxor @ Apr 4th 2008 12:42PM
My measure of how a game is good is wether or not it's fun to play.
Guitar Hero 3 was NOT fun to play. The Karma speaks for itself.
Big George @ Apr 3rd 2008 11:43PM
I just got back from seeing Def Leppard in Ft. Myers. You people are twits, they totally kick ass.
Martez @ Apr 4th 2008 12:29PM
I'm afraid I'm over Guitar Hero. Harmonix knows what they are doing with rhythm games, Activision does not. I actually really liked the song list on GH3 and enjoyed playing it, but Activision just doesn't know what they are doing; they botched the Wii version's sound, the DLC system is stupid, this new Aerosmith edition is stupid, they're already talking about GH4 and forcing more stuff we might not necessarily want down our throat by making us buy a whole new disc. If I want to play one or two of the Aerosmith songs, I don't want to have to switch discs to play them. I don't want to switch between GH3, Aerosmith edition, and GH4 to play the various songs I'd enjoy on all of them, it's just stupid when all the systems have an online component in place where you could just download what you want. Rock Band doesn't need a sequel, it doesn't need a new disc. It just needs one edition with a gazillion choices of DLC. I should've known better and just followed Harmonix the whole way, now I'm selling GH3 and getting Rock Band.
Also, Bang Camaro songs FTW.
CHAOS!!!! @ Apr 4th 2008 3:12PM
Lol, rock band fanbois.
It is one of my most solid theories that everyone hates GH3 because they can't pass some songs on expert.
Initial Setup @ Apr 4th 2008 4:08PM
Rick Allen may only have one arm, and he may not be the best drummer in the world, but because of his determination (and nifty set of pedals) he still manages to play fantastically, especially live.
I for one will definitely be getting this Guitar Hero.
Azhrei @ Jun 4th 2008 8:10AM
Wow, there are some serious morons in here. Oh no, a mighty three (three! count them!) Def Leppard songs are going to be in GHIV! That means the game will suck! Wow, I don't suppose you twats could just NOT PLAY THOSE SONGS, could you?
Anyway, I'm glad to see some Def Leppard showing up in GHIV, though I would have preferred Gods of War, Wasted and Switch 625... especially that last would have been perfect for Guitar Hero. Oh well.
