Mr. Driller Online's lag-tastic online play
We've received some tips indicating that Mr. Driller Online for XBLA is having a problem with the, er, "Online" portion of the gameplay. It seems that while the person hosting an online game is just fine, the connecting player can't drill anything. X3F put together a video of the bug, which we've placed after the break.
Another test of Mr. Driller's online capabilities was done today with the same broken result. No word on whether a patch is in the works. Best to save your 800 MS points for the moment, as there's no sense in supporting broken titles.

Things like this merely support Metanet's position that most games on XBLA are sh*t. Hell, in fact I haven't checked out the XBLA in a long while ever since there's been a constant stream of crap games on it.
What does this then say for the XBLA QA process? Surely they would do internet testing and would have seen this bug if it's as widespread as you make it out to be.

"Hell, in fact I haven't checked out the XBLA in a long while ever since there's been a constant stream of crap games on it"
I'm pretty sure N+, Poker Smash, Metal Slug, and especially Rez HD are not crap...

i never really took their opinion of XBLA seriously. its just an opinion, just like there are people that think 2d games are outdated.
i have like 7 XBLA gamesw now and ill probably be getting more. and this coems froma guy that spends an hour at gamestop deciding what game to buy next.

Bah, there are crap games on any service and you have to dig for the gems. Seriously, check out Steam sometime, or as I like to call it, "Steaming Pile"
You sort through a lot of shit to find good things on any downloadable service.
However, it is quite upsetting to see something like this occur despite the brags of QA on the service. And if it happened with every game, you may have a point about the service, but when I was on XBL, it was issues that were once every 10 games.

If you're a fan of Mr. Driller - the single player is still great though. I'm okay with that for now as long as they fix the MP within a couple of weeks.

If past performance is an indication of this titles chances of being fixed, then I will not be holding my breath.

Someone want to play a game? It's called "which will come first?"
Aerofighters Assault patch, or Aerofighters Assault 2?

Gold, Jerry! Gold!
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Apr 3rd 2008 7:27PM
That's sad. =(
Joystick Hero @ Apr 3rd 2008 8:05PM
Well. That pretty much shows how much quality assurance they do when a game named Mr. Driller ONLINE doesn't work when played ONLINE.
Fadobo @ Apr 4th 2008 4:42AM
Lol, exactly what I thought. Its not "Mr. Driller" its Mr. Driller Online. Its like selling apple pie, but because you didnt have any apples you just sell em without ;)
nutman @ Apr 3rd 2008 8:08PM
No one else is talking about the real issue here. Mr driller is $10? Thats BS.
Sean D. @ Apr 3rd 2008 8:59PM
No kidding! Save your $10 and go buy a mocha! Or a gallon of gas...
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Apr 4th 2008 5:11AM
I'm assuming that Sean's living in Europe, because around here I could get 3 gallons of gas for 10 bucks.
rockintom @ Apr 4th 2008 6:52AM
And I'm assuming ThornedVenom doesn't know what "sarcasm" means.

When I saw this, I thought "omg that came out this week," so I went and downloaded it. Then I saw "Game Experience May Change During Online Play" as it was loading, and because of this article, I laughed.

While they're at it can they fix the low res blurry visuals as well?
I was all excited to get this game and after playing the demo for a few minutes, I was severely disappointed. The game itself is ugly. The menus, title screen, artwork...everything is hi-res glory. Then you start a game and the game itself is a muddy murky craptastic mess.
Now under most circumstances I let graphics go but in this case, it's unacceptable especially when every other Mr. Driller title I've played (Dreamcast, Playstation, GBA) looks 10x better and more crisp than this one. I guess Namco was too lazy to do anything but get it out the door and start cashing those checks. *sigh*

Hey, if you want a high res Mr. Driller, you should really check out Drill Land on the GameCube. Really sharp high res sprites. The awesome music on Mr. Driller Online is also from this version.
JET @ Apr 4th 2008 11:39AM
I second that. Drill Land is the definitive Driller title. It had a few variations of the theme: an Indiana Jones style game with crashing boulders and fiery traps; a Druaga-crossover RPG with spells and dragons; and an outer-space setting with reversing gravity and wormholes. It also synced with Mr. Driller Alpha for GBA to share progress between the two games.

I still love Mr. Driller.
