Evan: I'm not talking about all games companies. I'm talking about Nintendo in particular.

If one movie studio found its strength/niche lay in making documentaries then I would expect them to fully focus on making those sort of films. At the same time there will always be studios making action flicks (which for the sake of this will be 'hardcore' games).

What I'm lamenting here is that Nintendo use to be my favourite publisher, I grew up with them and still do dearly love them. At the same time though it is apparent that they no longer are catering for me in the same way that I want them to. It's not their fault, they're just doing what is good for them, but it still makes me a sad bunny.

Nintendo No longer cares about you or me. You would think that they would take care of their "loyal" fanbase that is older now like me 30+. Sorry, Zelda and Metroid don't cut it for me anymore.

Hey Nintendo, how about making a in house studio devoted to the hard core gamer? Like REAL FPS (not metroid), REAL fighting games (not Brawl, even though it 's good) and REAL racng (not go carts). Heck, throw in some REAL sports too.. I am a adult. I am no longer into Mario. Truthfully I liked Luigi more..

So you want Nintendo to be like every other (western) studio?

Don't we have more than enough of those?

Actually, everything they are doing nowadays seems to cater to me, a 25 year old married man with little time to play games and no desire to spend loads of money. Plus I get to play some of the best games coming out this gen.

Sorry, not everyone like those generic, gray-shaded shooters.

Metroid, Smash Bros and Mario kart are way better than almost every generic shooter, fighter and racer.

And believe... it's far more challenging to finish any Metroid Prime game than any Halo or other shooter... you actually need to think, not just shoot, shoot, shoot.

Oh gaah you are s000 right!
How dare Nintendo continue to use iconic characters and fun gameplay thats been a winning formula for years.I mean what the HELL is wrong with them?!? They should revamp all their games to have gore, sex, and drugs(because that's what makes a game hardcore right? and oh damn,I wonder how the NES era ever survived!?) That way little Johnny won't be afraid to tell all the popular kids in school that he plays mario.

Nah. I've been playing Nintendo for the past 20 odd years since I got tired of Amiga loading times (which never died, they can now be seen on PSP and PS3) and I don't want them to change. I want these genre revolutions to hit every 10 years, minor sequels to them inbetween. etc.

I'd say the opposite... Nintendo still seems to care about fun and gameplay, the cornerstones of classic video games, while Sony and Microsoft have degenerated into pumping out pseudo-realistic soft-core violence-porn for adolescent male fantasies.

I agree with you...

Nintendo of all companies should realize what a gold mind they have now.

They are able to appeal to EVERYBODY therefore they should create games that are targeted at all age ranges. Not just Rated E games or kiddie games. I'm not saying thats all the Wii is.

However theres a problem when you're most adult like games are Brawl, Metriod, and Zelda. I don't even include Manhunt since I find the series to be stupid and not worth my time or money.

I think Nintendo is playing it smart with staying true to their roots in characters and gameplay. Yeah, it would be nice to see some more modernized titles, but I don't think that’s enough for the "Hardcore" gamer to get onboard anyway. Nintendo really needs to rework the online/personalization aspect of the console for those people to want to switch to it (or give more time to it).

Yeah, even if it doesn't have the best graphics it will get people playing it online and devoting their time to it if there is some method of making the interface friendly and more communal - like the other consoles have. People like to show their skills, have some personality in their profiles, and read about what games others play. Some kind of reward system like Live has and the PSN will have is also a good idea.

I agree. Purchasing a PS3 or XBOX 360 would easily remedy your problem. Probably much quicker than Nintendo will.

In Nintendo's defense, why should they cater to die hard Nintendo fan's such as yourself? They are making much more money catering to Soccer moms worldwide.

God I hate Nintendo.

I've been living in Japan for the last 7 months, and I've given up trying to figure out the Japanese. All I know is that adults here love their "general purpose" software, like brain training and wii fit. I think it gives them an excuse that they're doing something productive even though they're playing a videogame.

It's the same in the US, except instead of pretending to improve yourself, adults pretend to be gangsters and elite soldiers...

The way to understand japanese gaming is as follows:

There are two distinct groups. (1) There are the kids and hardcore gamers, just like in every other country.

But there are also the (2) middle aged men and women, businessmen, hosewives, people learning english, etc.. who are a totally different audience and probably never buy what we would consider a game. They use the DS (mostly) as a learning tool for what they want to do in their life (pass english tests to get promotions, travel guides, brain training, cooking, fitness, golf, dictionaries, etc...)

For group 2 the DS and Wii aren't really games machines, they are tools.

In the west we haven't really had group 2 yet.. though I think the DS and Wii are starting to create that group now.

I never bought a n64 or a gamecube. Once playstation 1 came out i was a ps fanboy ever since. I thought the games on the nintendo consoles were just to kiddy for me then. This time though i purchased a wii. Theres not a whole lot of games on it that i like cept a handfull. But man, me and my friends are addicted heavily to brawl. Where going to a tourney in a few weeks :). Also to be honest iv really enjoyed my 360(luckily no red ring). Good library of games, and wow a decent selection of RPGs 0_0!. Sadly im probly gonna buy a ps3 when i get my government $$. Ps3 library is gonna start heating up and i dont wanna miss it. Each system has good games. The few good ones on the wii are at least very high quality games thanks to nintendo. Really though i think it depends on the person. Different genres of games are like different flavors and foods, not everyone likes pizza but a majority do. To each their own.

Personally though im an RPG, mmo, fighting games fan ^_^

Just going to point out what others are thinking re this statement:

"Sadly im probly gonna buy a ps3 when i get my government $$."

If you preface it with sadly, yet you are voluntarily doing it, then why are you doing it at all? Nobody is forcing you to get a PS3 – are they? You may want to think about your statement there - it sounds like you really don’t want to buy one in the first place, but are doing it anyway. That makes no sense to me.

Yeah, get a truck or a deep frier like a good American. Or blow it all on overpriced gasoline, that's what they really want us to do with it.
