Today in Joystiq: April 3, 2008
As pointed out by Joystiq expatriate Kevin Kelly, the above picture (text box excluded) was reportedly featured in a recent Yahoo! article on Xbox Live cheating. It seems a bit, erm, antiquated. That, or Yahoo! has some inside scoop on a new Xbox 360 revision that looks exactly like the original Xbox (are they calling it retro yet?). Check out the highlights for today:

god i hated that controller...
Sora267 @ Apr 4th 2008 12:13AM
The hardware revision thing IS possible, considering that Microsoft owns Yahoo! now...I think.
samfish @ Apr 4th 2008 12:25AM
Not quite, but they're working on it.
gobble gobble gobble!
Sora267 @ Apr 4th 2008 12:25PM
I wanna gobble gobble all over your avatar, Samfish. ;)
mr mobius @ Apr 4th 2008 12:16AM
Thats the new fatter controller because it has to have more room to hold motion sensors. I thought that everyone knew that by now. It has wires because that's only a prototype.
HB96st @ Apr 4th 2008 12:17AM
Just goes to show that even the media are out of the loop on certain stuff... like videogames. "sigh"...
cheese @ Apr 4th 2008 12:29AM
maybe the new retro version won't RROD. That'd be a winner.
Scotto @ Apr 4th 2008 1:51AM
Flogging that dead horse.

Player1 @ Apr 4th 2008 10:11AM
Not really, considering the horse keeps dying over and over again.

The sad thing is that the original "Duke" controller was designed by Microsoft's American division and they said they had many gamers test out the controller.
So the "S" controller we all knew and loved launched with the Xbox in Japan and everybody wanted to use this controller instead.
Picking a Japanese controller for an American console, the irony? Probably not that funny but still. : )
Lone Starr @ Apr 4th 2008 12:56AM
Was I the only one who loved the Duke, even more-so than the S?
It may have felt like a loaf of bread, but it was a damn comfy loaf of bread.
*confusedly goes back to his flask of whiskey, twirling his mutton-chops, eyeing his portrait of the Queen*
Scotto @ Apr 4th 2008 1:52AM
I loved the Duke, but then again I'm 6'5", with very large hands.
I was kind of bummed that they phased it out completely - I couldn't even buy them in a store for myself.
- Scott
Jack @ Apr 4th 2008 7:42AM
The Duke was fantastic. It felt so happy in my hands. The only downside to it was that shoddy d-pad.
PojoMofo @ Apr 4th 2008 10:13AM
being 6'-3" tall and being able to easily palm a basketball, the Duke is easily my favorite controller of all time. When I had my launch day xbox 1, I had the Duke that it came with, and I used that thing until my xbox finally crapped out about 6 months ago. I had 2 S controllers for guests, but I always used the Duke.
Hirsbrunner @ Apr 5th 2008 5:03PM
The Duke was also my favorite controller. Fit like a glove.
Leonidas @ Apr 4th 2008 3:19AM
Is the punishment being forced to use that controller?
vidGuy @ Apr 4th 2008 4:20AM
The Duke was the reason I stayed away from the original XBOX. It wasn't until Logitech released the wireless controller, even smaller than the S controller, that I jumped on board. I have average hands but everything on the Duke was just too awkwardly placed.
Imagine my delighted when the 360 controller was revealed to be very similar to Logitech's.
ill trooper @ Apr 4th 2008 9:07AM
THE DUKE LIVES!
It was like holding a big hamburger... yum.
Jayslacks @ Apr 4th 2008 7:23AM
The DUKE! Man, I miss that thing.
baby sea tuna @ Apr 4th 2008 8:29AM
A lot of hardcore Halo players really loved the Duke. Personally, I wasn't the biggest fan.
Co @ Apr 4th 2008 9:10AM
Fuck the Duke and fuck the XBox.
deaftly @ Apr 4th 2008 9:36AM
Fuck Florida, theres a reason fark.com has a Florida tag for your retarded population :)
PojoMofo @ Apr 4th 2008 10:16AM
Be honest Co, your wearing jorts right now arent you
jinn35 @ Apr 4th 2008 12:19PM
i didn't like the duke
cheese @ Apr 5th 2008 9:53AM
The S controller was essentially a carbon copy of the Microsoft Sidewinder PC game pad.
