Call of Duty 4 map pack going live in 30 minutes

Infinity Ward spokesman "fourzerotwo" (or Robert Bowling, to his parents) has announced that the new Call of Duty 4 map pack will arrive at 6:30 PST, or 9:30 EST or, to put it in terms we can all appreciate: In 30 minutes. So watch a video or flip through the gallery, do whatever you have to do to prepare yourself. What's that sound like blood pumping out of your ears? That's you getting totally, absolutely pumped. ... Oh, also, there's blood pumping out of your ears. We should probably get you to a doctor. Think we can be back in a half hour? Come to think of it, can you drive yourself?

Once the maps drop (and you part with 800 points/$10) try to pull yourself away for a few minutes to come back and share your thoughts.

Well, granted, some of the mod made maps for stuff like Counter Strike and UT2003/4 are better than the stuff made by the actual developer.

That said, these are professionally made maps by people that actually know what they are doing. Ofcourse they are going to charge you money for them.

I know that people lambasted EA for the pay-for-weapons scheme on bad company, but really I'd like to see some new weapons in the next expansion (sorry, "Map Pack"). I don't even care if they have the exact same stats as guns that are already in the game. Tired of looking at the same weapons over and over =D

Infinity Ward released all their new maps for free before they started working on consoles. It IS the "common practice." Anyone who has been with the developer from the start knows that they supported the PC players very well.

Call of Duty 2 changed all that- when they never released the new maps on PC, all their forum regulars walked out and their community manager essentially apologized. I would expect better PC support for CoD4, or they are going to lose all of their PC sales.

One final note about IW and piracy- since CoD1, all of their games have had cd key checks while joining multiplayer servers. I hear they skipped that for CoD4, and if true, it was their own laziness responsible for their high piracy rates.

I was talking about the Priced Map Packs not the game piracy.Seriously when is the last time you've seen a PC map pack that's not free?

And it looks like there are still key-checks considering the amount of CoD4 hamachi servers.

Its free for the 360! just go to the gamestop or eb and get them to give u a pass key for some preorder then cancel it a day later. Hell I paid59.99 for it and thats what the goty cost.

As far as I know it hasn't been announced for PC yet. 360 today and a few weeks later for PS3.

I'm bummed I didn't get to finish Lost Odyssey before the maps were released. I'm on disc 4 and am probably 5 - 10 hours away from finishing it.

I'll have to work on balancing my time between the two this weekend.

Nah, not against the game, against the publisher. Trying to snag a used copy somewhere on the cheap. Everytime a listing goes up on craigslist, it's usually claimed within a couple hours... but all isn't lost. I added ~25 genesis games to my collection through that site on the cheap.

Besides, I just wanted to mention that a lawsuit is coming where a child shot another child over skills learned in God of War....

Because it amuses me so..

Can't wait to see these new maps on the PC. I'm all for variety. I went off CounterStrike because everyone insists on playing Dust2 and only Dust2 all the time. COD4 servers generally have more choice but even so I think the game needed new maps.

IMO the game needs BIGGER maps too. Call me old-fashioned but I'd rather play a game of skill, not one of spam, which is what it is when you have about 40 people running about the place. Shipment? It works great as a map for 2 people playing split-screen on a console. With 32 it's just f*cking stupid.

Personally my attitude to COD4 online is a love-hate one. Sometimes it's great. And sometimes it's all about f*cking kangaroos constantly leaping around getting accurate sniper shots across the map in mid-air, spawn-rapings, random different server rules that see you kicked from one for camping and then kicked from another for not camping enough... and I have no problem with anti-cheat systems so long as I don't have to keep manually updating them all the damn time... which I do with PunkBuster.

Anyway rant over, my point being if the new maps are good enough to get me playing COD4 again and make me overlook all those faults I'll be happy.

Meh. I'm more excited about the Halo 3 maps anyway. How come all the Call of Duty fans rip on Halo's $10 DLC when they all lap at the feet of Call of Duty DLC, which costs the same, has no plans whatsoever of becoming free, and Halo 3 has Forge? What's the matter with you people?!?
