Iwata asks about the many Wii Wheels of Nintendo
In a new edition of the contrived Iwata Asks, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto and product development guy, Kenichiro Ashida, sit down with president Satoru Iwata to talk about the Wii Wheel shipping with Mario Kart Wii.
Ashida regales that in early 2007 the product development team got the first build of Mario Kart Wii and started messing around with developing a steering wheel. Some 30 prototypes laters the team had a design that was about the size of a real go-kart steering wheel and added a B button to the underside of the wheel for a child's fingers to reach. Mario Kart Wii drives into stores April 27... coincidentally, two days before that other driving game.

I'm far more hyped for Mario Kart than SSBB or GTAIV.
=p

Gotta agree with you there, Fernando. Although all three games are undeniably made of awesome - got all three on pre-order! :D

I'm kinda expert in Mario Kart... and I will definitely going to try and master motion controls... I want the Wii Wheel icon next to my profile. =)
By the way... interesting article... a Super Mario Galaxy character will be on Mario Kart Wii.

Mario Galaxy character in Mario Kart? I bet it's Mario!
/jk (I had to do it)

I missed that first time through. Are there any new characters in Galaxy other than Rosalina? I doubt they'll make those star things drive a kart.
mr mobius @ Apr 5th 2008 8:01AM
It's pretty obvious that Rosalina/Rosetta will be the new character.
I wonder will there be a Galaxy track, or could the Rainbow Road (always in a Mario Kart so its expected to have a RR) be the Galaxy track?
After the amount of effort they put into SSBB, there should be an awful load of options.

that one guy in the picture looks terrified of Miyamoto

As far as purchases go, I'll probably get Kart after I get GTAIV. I've got so many games yet to beat. It never ends does it?

with the giant hype machine that is brawl....mario kart just snuck up on me.
Between the 2....I won't be going outside all summer.

It's just the normal process of any design, whether it be character, object, scenery or industrial design.
Thumbnail loads, prototype quite a few, end up with one: the first product is always the most expensive, but manufacturing a lot of copies is extremely cheap.

Can anyone imagine a feature called "Yamauchi Asks" featuring Hiroshi Yamauchi sitting down an interview and photoshoot with Kenichiro Ashida, Hideki Konno, and Shigeru Miyamoto? Me either.

The only game I'm looking forward to on the Wii is Okami , SSBB, Mario Kart Wii both look recycled. I want something newer and fresher. Yes I know Okami was on BS2 but I don't buy Sony shit.

I don't care what fanboy allegiance you pledge, but you have to laugh at the above comment
T2Master @ Apr 6th 2008 12:37PM
Wow! 30 prototypes for a worthless piece of plastic! That was a very good use of resources!
