Those of you in the market for another guitar for Guitar Hero III will be happy to know that RedOctane has dropped the cost of the wireless Les Paul guitar. Originally fetching a price of $69.99, it is now $10 cheaper.
Have you been holding off on picking up an extra guitar until the price dropped? Have you been waiting to get one but just can't find one? Want a free one? Or do you go from hotel to hotel enjoying the Guitar Hero III they have to offer?
[Thanks, Eric!]

Aren't the Nyko ones only $50 and have been since they were released? At least, they have been at my local store.

I've never seen a Nyko one in a store, and the seperate wii guitar hero guitars at gamestop are 79.99! The manager told me "sorry, supply and demand". he then said "oh we have a used one, i think it's 30... no.... no wait it's 50".
Rip off artists...
so are they telling me the game is only worth 10 bucks then? stupid.

I am holding out for a 3rd party that will make one that is compatible with Rock Band and GH III

I think that 3rd party guitar would have to trick the games into thinking it was an acceptible controller, but that would surely result in a patent infringement lawsuit from both companies.

I don't think that it would. Look at the Nyko Guitar for PS3. That works for both and there is no issue there.

You might as well hold out for one that works on the PS3 and 360 as well. Somehow, I think that both companies are going to try and sell you as much incompatible gear as possible, and prevent the 3rd party ones from doing their best to fill the niche.

Hopefully they'll keep dropping it. As much as I want another controller, it doesnt seem worth paying more for a controller than I do a game. $40 and I'm sold

Yes, the game isn't worth very much by itself, which is why a lot of people have bought another package just for the extra guitar and sell the software on Ebay to help recoup some of the cost. And I confirmed it, the Nyko guitar has been released for $50, so that's the way I would've gone if GH had DLC on the Wii.

Don't sit there waiting for DLC, when there are alternatives: http://www.keanpedersen.dk/2008/04/gh1-and-gh80-on-the-wii/

Keep dropping it, when it hits the $30 mark I'll bite..

Without DLC, I figure I might as well pick it up for cheap for PS2 and then I can play the previous games with the same guitars. I wonder how the total prices would compare.

Yeah, I agree with a lot you on a bigger price cut. I've actually sent a lot of emails complaining bout the price. I don't think the $10 cut was quite enough, but at least its something, not enough for me to just go for the guitar though. Game Stop sucks, IMO, I wouldn't even go back again if they TRIED selling me a guitar for that much more. As for the pricing of the game, considering the costs of the guitars, in theory they should only range 20-30 bucks, but the price for the 360 version is still $59.99.

Amazon and Toys R Us have been selling the guitar for "$10 less" ($59.99) since it came out. This isn't much of a drop in practical terms. Still, maybe all our emails about "Red Octane, you're @#$% ripping us off" made some impact.

that pretty much is what i said in my last email. after the first one i sent them, after the first article came out on this site, they told me they weren't selling them by themselves and that there was no release date. even though i could purchase one off the site, which i did point out in a reply to that. after getting nothing back, i sent another, which all i got back was one saying that that email would be forwarded to someone else. nothing back. then i sent another one. and nothing back. period.
