N-Gage application finally launches

After months of delays and agonizing, nail-biting anticipation, Nokia's N-Gage platform has finally launched, with a handful of games supported on five different Nokia phones.
The official announcement of the platform is due on Monday, but Nokia has gone ahead and flipped the switch before the weekend, in the interest of drumming up some early traffic. The application is compatible with Nokia's N81, N81 8GB, N82, N95, and N95 8GB phones, and at this time only five games are available, including Brain Challenge, System Rush: Evolution, and World Series of Poker. All games offer free trials, and can be purchased from directly from the computer once the N-Gage account is created on the mobile phone.
More games are listed as "coming soon," including Worms World Party, Sims 2 Pets, and the ever-ubiquitous Tetris. If any of you have had a chance to install and try out the N-Gage app on your Nokia handsets, let us know your thoughts in the comments. We're quite curious if it was all worth the wait.

Got this for my n81 awhile ago. Although the games were all trials at that point.
The application is really cool, and it reminds me a lot of xbox live.
Actually, it's exactly like xbox live. (Gamercard, 5-star rep, gamertag, achievement points, gamer pic, etc)

I had the original N-gage and QD, and never regretted it - This is the same thing, I'm still not regretting it either - Ive been angry at the delays but the final release is good, the layout is clean and simple - sure some of the games are not the best quality (World series poker and Brain challenge im looking at you *java quality*) but then you get System rush, or even Creatures of the deep and there fantastic deep mobile games. Nokia are doing a little better with the launch with more game developers for instance like EA who are bringing the Sims franchise to the N-Gage (Which is a good start). Some people may love the new N-Gage platform, or may not but remember the new N-Gage isn't aimed at the PSP or DS "Hardcore" gamers (Unlike the first N-Gage which tryed to take on the Game boy Advance for instance) They are just revamping mobile gaming to something a little more interesting, nothing hardcore just simple. And before some people think I'm being a little biased towards N-Gage, I'm not Ive also got a PSP and DS and I love them both, Each platform has there moments ;)
I'd just like to point out, before people start slagging the Gamer Points/online system (Being close to XB-L) It is yes, but you forget Nokia bought out Segas on line division back in 2001-2 which may have something to do with it ;) Work the rest out yourself's.
Peace hOAx

mksolo @ Apr 4th 2008 1:27PM

wootman @ Apr 4th 2008 4:21PM
nokia needs to bring the n96 (same phone as in picture, but with more stuff and a dual slider) to America already.

Thought this was cool - until i found out that the phone pictures costs FREAKING SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS. All of the "N" line of phones is mad expensive. Check the website if you don't believe me. Gee wow - $600 for some crappy old ports. Gee i cant wait.
Mills and Boom @ Apr 4th 2008 6:04PM
I'm mostly an iPhone user but the N95 has a lot of features. Even a good, albeit cumbersome GPS system. Personally I'm waiting to see if the N96 is any good. I hear its got DB-T or something.
TBH I don't mind paying extra for good quality stuff.
