PSP enjoys 'Monster' success in Japan
And it would have outsold all of the competition combined if it weren't for that pesky Xbox 360 contributing 1,547 units to the tally. The number the other systems had to defeat was 129,986, the number of PSPs sold in Japan last week according to the compulsive counters at Media Create. Nintendo's DS occupied the second place in the chart with 58,916 sold -- less than half of that managed by the PSP.
The system's monster success arrives hand-in-hand with Capcom's Monster Hunter Freedom 2 G, which sold 880,468 copies in its first week. Capcom revealed earlier this week that it had already shipped over a million units of the PSP expansion in an attempt to satiate the demand for "epic battles with giant monsters."

Alright, let's not make shit bigger than it is. Nintendo could stop selling DSs immediately and it would still take Sony quite a while to catch up. I know that I sound like a Sony fanboy when I say this, so please don't point out the irony, but just wait until DQ9 comes out.
"These numbers are alright, but wait until Monster Hunter 3 comes to Wii!"
I so wish there was a PSP-Phone.

Because we all know that the N-Gage sucks ass. But the PSP is quickly becoming a badass system after a really slow start. I'm happy to see it too, because Nintendo does handhelds well, but it doesn't mean that they offer the best of everything.
And maybe I'm a bit of a MS fanboy, but I would like to see what they could offer in terms of a handheld gaming system. I know the Zune is adding gaming functionality, but I would love to see a dedicated portable system from them.
The thing I like about the Playstation brand is that their systems have had the perfect combination/variety of games, large library of games and good variety of Western and Eastern games (first person shooters and then Japanese sim dating games).

Uh, yeah, good thinking, Capcom...sheer genius. :/

That's like if you had said in 1997 "All the success of Final Fantasy on Nintendo consoles, and they're going to put it on this PlayStation thing?
Yeah, Square, sheer genius"

I think so.

Of course its not as good in sales as the DS, but its survived against almighty Nintendo, unlike many other poor handhelds that have tried, like the Neo-Geo pocket and Gamegear.
I am glad to see another great alternative on the handheld front that is the PSP.
Just like many of you are happy to see an alternative to the PS3, which is the 360 and Wii. Always good to see more than one entry in the market.
