The pimps, hoes and other assorted citizens of Saints Row are ready to return August 26 on Xbox 360 and PS3. IGN reports the release date was announced at THQ's Gamers' Day event held in San Francisco. The official Saints Row 2 website is now up and blinged to the nines with ghetto fabulousness.
Late August seems like enough breathing room between SR2 and GTA IV to give the game a chance. Then again, depending on how over-the-top Saints Row 2 ends up being, it could carve out its own niche. We're just looking forward to some co-op play, because you gotta have friends to survive in the ghetto ... and a pimp hat, yeah, we're gonna need big pimp hats.

You think so? They have it at Target for $25 right now I was thinking of picking it up. Anybody else want to tell me what they thought about Saints Row?

IMO saints row was an incredible game. I play it pretty much every day and have since it came out. Even if it's just half an hour. But I've 100%'d it twice and I still play it.

I enjoyed Saints Row. It's funny in ways not intended and the humor goes for shock rather than clever like GTA but Saints Row is the first sandbox game I beat so that should tell you something.

You are better off playing any of the previous GTA games, because Saints Row is basically a direct ripoff anyway (and not in a good way).
Garbage is certainly the correct term.

I must be one of the few people in the world that enjoyed Saints Row more than GTA. I prefer a customization that doesn't force me to be a preselected character. I spent a ton of time playing Saints Row... lots more than I did with any of the GTA games (probably more than I did on all of the GTA games combined).

I found SR to be a very fun game, actually it's the only game sandbox game I've ever finished (I never bothered to finish and of the GTAs... only vice city).
I got it for $29.99 ($21.99 now) on amazon, it's definitely worth the cash.
The only thing that sucked is that your gang uses purple.

Umm, except for these aspects...
-GPS... added a LOT to this genre and frankly, I hate that Burnout Paradise doesn't have it. And no, GTA didn't have it before, GTAIV will be the first (and they basically took Saints Rows system and expanded on it).
-Gunplay that works. I always stopped playing GTA because I got tired of the piss poor gunplay which actually stands on equal ground with Resident Evil 3. Seriously, I couldn't take it. Loved the game, hate having to work with something that's broken and the gunplay in GTA has been broken since they went to 3D.
-Variety in how you progressed the game. You could take on any story arc you wanted and the additional things to the game actually had purpose.

I don't know how a game can be ignorant. Unless by ignorant you mean stupid. Even then calling a game stupid is pretty ignorant of yourself.

I actually had the same thought. GTA4 uses a lot of racial stereotyping in their humor, but they do it in a very sly and subversive away. The game clearly has a level of self-awareness.
I've never played Saint's Row, but I looked at that image, and found it offensively cartoonish.
Not trying to be all heavy, but I just came here after reading a New York Times writeup of MLK's assassination 40 years ago today. My first thought was, "I'm glad he's not alive to see that."
Am I getting the wrong impression from that image, or is Saint's Row just dumb blaxploitation stuff?

Copa,
That's weird because I had my browser shut down and when I opened it they had Chasing the Dream: How Far Have We Come as the story. I was on my way to Joystiq to check this article before I left the house. Now I'm feeling, well, dirty and confused.

well im black and the cover isnt offensive or anything to me. there are plenty of black people (not to mention people of all other races) that aspire to look like that. im fortunately not one of them. i may pick this up if im not still playing GTAIV then. it does seem to be playing alot on stereotypes but its not offensive. box art isnt a reason not to buy a game. the only time i played the first one was in Game Crazy for like 15 minutes. it was an ok game that i could c myself getting into given the right circumstances (like it being on a console i own lol)
oh, but yea, MLK would probably kill himself if he came back today. watch that Boondocks episode about MLK coming back if your into that show (of even if your not lol). its funny with a point.

I didn't say aspire to look like, I said aspire to be. I'm not talking about the grill I'm talking about the whole image. The whole image displays a lifestyle that should be little more than fantasy, while its of course completly exagerated, the idea of being a successful criminal, and that success being displayed in your persona via excesses should be offensive to everyone. I HATED the sopranos, I could not watch a show about pricks like that.
I can't believe someone used the term Obamafied...(Im sure it must have been a joke). I mean who would want to aspire to be like the potentially next president of the USA, when you can aspire to be like the scumbag depicted on the cover of saints row?
Look its a game, i get it, its a fantasy, i get it, I'm not usually one to bitch about such things, maybe I'm just getting older, and everyone needs to stay off my lawn, I don't know. I do know there are a lot of stupid people out there though.
I rest my cast.

well i go to college and work a job and i have little time for gaming. i still buy them though and play mostly in the summer since i dont have homework. i just to work and then thats it til i go in again. with school its school, homework, work, then games.
i think we go back on the 25th of august next semester (assuming the 26th is a Tuesday) so i more than likely wont get to play this one til winter break if i even pick it up.

That's awesome..... I personally love the graphic. That dude in the background has a gold rifle hanging around his neck!
I found the first game to be quite amusing. I didn't finish it 100%, but I actually played it through to the closing cut scene, which is far more than I do for 90% of the games I get.
