I like it. Funny that the PS3 is the console where you can see the Master Chief vs. Samus battle happen. That and PC of course.

Haha, yeah this is very cool. It's too bad MS is so closed off with Xbox Live and the modding community. It's great that some PS3 games are getting mods like this.

Why is Unreal Tourny III getting all the glory for the ps3 version, all the other PC versions of the game all the way pack to the first unreal game has been doing this for YEARS!!!! Ironic?

Mods are great though, I've been enjoying them for YEARS!

For example, http://jediknight3.filefront.com/file/Samus_Aran;28016
http://jediknight3.filefront.com/file/Zero_Suit_Samus;76770
http://polycount.com/models/quake2/samus/
My god.
Anyway, yes Samus vs Master Chief, greatness, hopefully it wont end up like some stupid like a badly polygon sex scene, after a series of overly used Matrix soundtracks "cough" haloid "cough".

This is why I LOVE the mod community! I really haven't played anything modded since Quake 3 Arena... maybe? Regardless, there's a ton of talent out there that should be allowed to experiment and grow.

Not my kind of game, but seeing all the crazy mod's for UT III is alot of fun. I'd love to see modding abbility's added into an RPG or a Mario game, (I'm a big fan of fangames:) ) it would be a lot of fun.

People have been modding for RPGs for a long time now. Oblivion had a ton of PC mods.

Yes. Oblivion does have tons of PC mods, as well as Morrowind. Morrowind has some of the most impressive mods I've seen too.

I just wish that this type of thing was possible on the 360! I want to play modded files on my console too, my pc handles Oblivion alright, but not quite as smooth as it is on the Xbox... sigh =(

Just goes to show how important art is over GPU power. She looked 10x better in the Cube and Wii Metroid games, despite the lower specs.

that is very true, but this mod is very good. It works both with and without the helmet, and has multiple types of armor to choose from, and it all came from an enthusiast, and not a professional. I can't say it enough, this mod is really cool. It even has the ability to go into ball form.

Don't forget to mention characters from Gears of War, Crysis, the easter bunny, and a really amazing Rendition of Spawn... All great character mods that are available for DL.

"Just goes to show how important art is over GPU power."

Actually, it shows nothing of the sort. It just what some guy was able to do for in his unpaid free time. Using you own example, take the "art" from the Wii Metroid version and apply it to the the more powerful 360/PS3/PC platforms and suddenly your "art" will look better.

Ahaha I knew I was gonna get voted down for that one, and receive a comment by one of the retards (vidikron).

The point is that people are too focused on tech specs, and modern game developers are getting used to just making things look shiny by applying a pretty pixel shader. They are un-learning their skills, most modern game artists (and I say most, don't throw exceptions at me) need HD and shiny computer generated effects like a cripple needs a crutch. If you don't get this, then you're a dumbshit.

It amazes me what the Unreal mod community has done, now all we need is a Gordon Freeman skin and the FPS "battle of the stars" can begin!

I love that the mod community has done things like this long, long before, and only after it makes it to a console does it become a big deal.

Go to a pc gaming site (which joystiq isn't) this isn't a big deal and it's been done many times before.

I'm not sure why tools like yourself are even bothering to make that point. I think most people here are aware of PC modding. A lot of are actually PC gamers too. It's just cool to finally see this moving onto consoles. Why be a buzzkill about it?

Ugh. Do it right if you're going to do something at all. That Samus is misproportioned and the textures and shaders need work.

Then lets see your work if you think you can do better. Or lets put this in better perspective: This Samus was Probabbly done by one enthusiastic Programmer in his spare time on his computer, where as Samus on Gamecube/Wii was done by a handfull of proffessional artist and another handfull of proffesional programmers working with more advanced, and highly specialized tools getting paid for at least forty hours a week. When you put it in perspective, this guy did a damn good job.

I have the right to criticise, regardless of whether I could do better. That'd be like saying that I can't say a game sucks if I couldn't make a better one. The head is too large, the textures are undetailed, and the shaders are flat and dull. Sorry for expecting more quality in newsworthy novelty mods.

But you did say you wanted to see my work. One thing I worked on (I made the bsp and did the UVing of the bsp): http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=2731
Another (I did the modeling and UVing, along with making the custom textures): http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=3167

I'm familiar with modding. I'll admit that I'm not much for biped modeling, rigging, or shader work, but I know more than a few people who can and have done better, just for fun.

Wow... Sorry, but I actually read and looked at your links... You have absolutely NO room criticizing this model, when your models and maps are VERY noobish.

I followed a few links and think that the picture shown isn't the most flattering. I think the model has multiple armors and another screen I saw had the more contemporary "globes for shoulders" look and was done quite well. Although I do admit that if you follow the links to the main artist's page you'll actually have something to criticise: Samus's face.

:[ heebly jeeblies, man.

Why the hell did I waste £30 on that "game" on Steam...

Sweet. Now we need a moded gun that looks like the Power Beam. Are there any melee weapons in UT3? Some guy above me thought of modding Gordon Freeman into the game, and he wouldn't be complete without his trusty crowbar (and gravity gun if possible).
