Anyway, I was kind of hoping they'd either use the "dissolve" artwork(recently released as a wallpaper DL on the PSN store) or maybe the one with Old Snake knelt infront of himself wearing the octocamo hood and solid eye(see below for link).

I'd rather see a simple box art like the original MGS. At this point, the series is so well established that it doesn't really need anything special from it's box art to get attention. The stylized art they've done for MGS in the past has been great, and the simple cover for MGS2 was really good too, but I don't generally think that cover art that shows realism like the US version looks good. The European one is better, and I like the foxhound tick, but I still think something a little more simple would suit the series better.

I like how the European box art is similar to older ones, but it's still unique compared to the them.

But I'd prefer the US box art more, just because I think it's completely different from older MGS games and thats the whole point of the game. The fact that it is extremely different from those and also because it's (supposedly) the last in the series.

I've always gone for the artistic feel for games when it comes to covers, and this one is a clear cut example.

Yes, like usual the US gets by far the worst looking and most commercial looking box art. Other countries always take a more artistic approach, the US versions look like they are designed by some 60 year old CEO wanting to make sure no consumer out there gets confused and kills themselves from choking on their own stupidity because they cant figure out its a MGS game. The american one just has no taste and is very "safe" and typical of people who are scared of customers not understanding the product, its a disgrace to such an important game.

Japan's version will probably be the best, they usually go for a very simple and nice looking design with a lot of whitespace.

Simply because someone enjoys playing different games doesn't mean they have a "bad" taste in video games. If anything, you have a horrible taste in video games because a large majority of gamers would rather play GTA IV than MGS4.

I like the Euro box art. It reminds me of the main menu from MGS1. It is also in line with the art from the metal gear series. I seriously hope that is the box art for the US Collectors edition.

Anyways I like the European box art more than I like the ugly up close shot of snake. you can see that they are trying for the graphics whores. The other art fits the style of the series (and the 1,2,3 collection I have).

I've gotta stick with you on that one. The European box-art looks way more stylistically in tune with the other games in the series. And I prefer that over the for 'graphics whores' cover, as you put so delicately.

Also, just having the Foxhound symbol on the cover makes me like it just that little tiny bit more, I seriously love that symbol

I prefer the European box art better because it matches my newly purchased Essential Collection box art more. However, that doesn't mean I don't like the U.S.'s. Simply just Snake's face is a perfect portrayal of a war torn and aged face for a final chapter.

I like the US one just because it remembers what side of the face the eye patch is on. That, and the Europe version, depsite being the drawn version, lacks the delicate use of markers and and ink that the previous versions. It's much more vibrant, harsh, and lacks the subtle movements normally found in the artists hand.

No, the US version is the one that gets it wrong. Watch any of the trailers to see which eye the patch is on. You're probably thinking of Naked Snake's eyepatch. They're not the same person, you know.

He's just not wearing the Solid Eye in the US cover. He doesn't get it in game until he meets up with Otacon's MG mk2. The US box art is just an image of Snake sans eye patch.

I like the European cover, but I've always liked Shinkawa's concept art and style. The extra detail on the US cover isn't bad and definitely looks less constrained layout-wise; the logos on the EU version really box in the image of Snake.

I'll take the open layout of the US version and the Shinkawa art of the EU version on my special edition, thanks.

You seem to be new here.

In joystiq land, the flamewars must always commence, even if that means on the box-art of a huge game. I'm with you though, while I do personally like the EU art more, I don't really care when it comes down to it.

I just want the effin game!

Awww yes, I remember the ZoE 2 demo when it came around on the PS2. I too loved that series, very well done games.

Maybe Kojima will start to work on it a bit more now that MGS4 is starting to wrap up. One can only hope (for that or maybe a new Boktai)!

The only thing I hope for with the ZOE series is more depth. The games were fast pace and fun but they way too short. When you really got a hang of all the flying and weapons, the game was over. A side note, I miss the days of great boss fights, I think ZOE had some of the best boss fights on the PS2.
