Treasure's maniacal shoot-em-up Ikaruga is coming this week, April 9, according to the game's website. There's no official word yet from Microsoft, but we wouldn't find the date surprising, as it was leaked once before on the Japanese Xbox site. The game was also "outed" for an April release by the UK Official Xbox Magazine and has reportedly been on PartnerNet since January. Our fingers are crossed that this release date will stick, and come Wednesday, we can enjoy some mind-blowing, color-coordinated space shooting.
Update: Confirmed by Microsoft's Gamerscore Blog for this week.

Amazing game. You 360 owners should be thankful.

Do you hear that? It's the sound of millions of copies of Ikaruga for the Gamecube dropping in overall worth.

Actually, he does have a point. You have a 360 and LIVE. Ikaruga download in bout 2-3 mins. EASY....

I bought Ikaruga for 30 bucks on ebay, which I guess is good for a 2003 Gamecube game, but really it wasn't that valuable. Maybe a little hard to find, but hardly a collector's item.

I don't think Ikaruga was worth all that much as a rare game. This from someone who buys and sells rare games as a hobby.
Gamecube games by nature, however, have a decent amount of value, regardless of quality or rarity. Therefore it's unlikely that Ikaruga will see any change in value.

Blah, the color-swap gimmick was a hundred times better back when Treasure called it Silhouette Mirage. Ikaruga is bland, bland, bland.

Kidding? About what?? Have you seriously never seen this gimmick done, and done better? I'd rather play Varth or Raiden than Ikaruga, and they're at least a decade older.

Great game, but I think I'll just keep playing it on my Dreamcast.

I don't have or need HD, thankyouverymuch. And the Dreamcast controller is way better than the 360.

You're right, who needs HD, who needs better technology.
Infact, we should go back to developing all our games with glorious 8 bit graphics and mono sound.

The Dreamcast controller is not better than the 360 controller. I don't know what you're smoking.

Don't feel bad, the only reason I ever beat it was because I had a friend who was much better than me co-opping the whole time. I'll probably game over in the first 30 seconds this time around...

It's certainly a challenge - trying to dodge hundreds of bullets that are flying in all directions, while shooting baddies is one thing. Trying to do all that, while also switching between a light/dark side is a whole different story. You've got to have some serious Zen going on....or be a Jedi master. One of the two. Probably both.

There is not one standard game on Xbox that looks remotely enticing aside from Mass Effect which is coming to PC anyways. But between this and Rez HD, I could pull the trigger. I won't, and I hope they come to PS3, but I gotta fire up the ol' Dreamcast now.

Sorry mate, Treasure (the company who made Ikaruga) have said they're going 360 exclusive. Despite not liking the 360, I still think it's a pity that PS3 owners won't be able to experience this masterpiece.

It's better than most Treasure games and overall a decent shooter, though quite overrated. Co-op is one of the game's few saving graces. Your money would probably be better spent (if you own a Wii) on one of the amazing classic shmups on VC like Gate of Thunder, Lords of Thunder, Gradius III, SSS, etc; still, for those like myself always looking for a fix and having beaten those games, it's not a bad purchase.

I know the article says unconfirmed but I run the media department in a Best Buy. A Microsoft rep came in and we started talking about Dreamcast and old school games. He asked if I had ever played Ikaruga before after talking about Radiant Silvergun. I said that sadly I had not, and and his response was just wait until April 9th. It's hitting Live. If true, then this more or less adds a bit more confirmation for me.

Unfortunately, you're inability to choose between the words "before" and "after" leaves something to be desired with your credibility about dates.

Tell you what oh might grammer nazi Yourself, I used both words because it makes sense. Have I played Ikaruga at some point before this moment? Coincidentally it happened right after we talked about Radient Silvergun so my grammer stands. To be blunt, you seizing on grammer to debate my credibilty doesn't exactly fill me with any fear that you don't find me a credible source. I'm not trying to be a credible source, nor am I some sort of published media or weblog. I'm repeating what I was told, so basically you can just fuck right off with that.

"That was what we Americans call a joke. Sometimes, we say things we don't mean because they're funny. We call this comedy."
For the love of God, lighten up. I just thought it was kinda funny and ironic that you had a typo dealing with the flow of time in a post related to the flow of time.

So, considering the website is all gibberish...
Is this a direct copy of the gamecube game or did they add anything? Also, how are they doing this with 16:9 ratio? The game was already cut down on my 4:3 screen back in the gamecube days...at that rate half of the screen will be black on my widescreen.

They've updated it for HD, online scoreboards, online co-op and what would have been the back bits on a tv have been replaces with some kind of pretty background.

This game is not that hard. There are two sections that are difficult, the rest is pretty simple. As long as you can remember that you won't die unless the tiny little cockpit in the middle of your ship gets hit, it's pretty cake.
It looks like they didn't do much more than increase the resolution. Disappointing, but better than nothing. I would've loved if they gave it a bit of a graphical overhaul- it's taken them long enough to get it out.
