Did you miss the date for Final Fantasy IV in the last issue of Nintendo Power? We did, and so did many others; we were all too busy reading the incredible ten page spread on the game to look at the chart on page 18. Now RPGFan is also reporting that the game will ship this July, so it should be only a matter of time before Square Enix confirms the release. At this rate, we can expect Final Fantasy VI (also known as the one we're waiting for on the DS) in July of 2009. Can we get on that, guys? Not that we aren't excited about Final Fantasy IV (we are!), we're just ... uh ... looking ahead.

Yeah, I'll probably get this, eventually, but the DS needs new RPGs. New.
Aside from Contact, and the shitty FF3, I haven't played a RPG on the DS. My cup runneth over on the GBA, why can't it be the same on the DS?
But I'll probably get this, eventually. Right after Bangai which is being released in July. Or June. I can't remember now.

FF3 is shitty?!?! What's wrong with it? (aside from being a little light on story)

jmf ,
Did you get to the last super castle?
The difficulty ruthlessly jumped up, leaving the player to grind and grind. Final Fantasy games aren't about grinding. And you couldn't save inside dungeons. Dying after navigating that massive castle, only to be wiped out by the final boss isn't satisfying. It's tedious. It just felt like an old game in new skin.
Also, there's too little thrust. The lack of story doesn't help.
I saw some other annoyances about the game, I just can't remember them all now.
I'm not whining, I hope I don't sound like I'm whining, but I didn't enjoy it - that much. I only got that far into the game because I invested so much in the game being the first Final Fantasy on the DS. If you understand what I mean.

FF games not about grinding? Maybe you're talking about the new, awful FF games, or different FF games than I have ever played, but even in FFVII, the most overhyped game of all time, there is a fair amount of grinding involved to beat the extra bosses. While its not necessary for the story, it still is grinding. FFI and FFII both have large amounts of grinding involved, and I would daresay IV, V and VI do as well. So, tell me again, that FF isn't "about grinding".

I don't care what anyone says about FF being about "grinding" or not, but that last super castle in FF III was ridiculous. I haven't beaten it, and I don't plan on trying again.

Uh, I didn't miss it. I read the article noted the lack of release date mention, then flipped back and saw the release date. So, I guess I win.
I though I commented here before, but now I can't find it. Well, I KNOW I commented on the cheapassgamer forums. Everyone please give me kudos. Who's making me kudos?!?! ;)

JULY OF 2009?!?!? WTF? I'm sorry, as much as I've been waiting patiently and telling people to chill out, localization takes a long time, it does NOT take almost two years to translate a game! Especially not a REMAKE!
Please, PLEASE, someone tell me this is a typo. I am dying to get my hands on this game. It is one of my 5 all-time favorite games, ever, and I am seriously going to cry if I have to wait another year for it.

Um, just to clear things up, they're saying that FFVI is dropping in July of this year and that for those of us who tend to be on the wishful side of the spectrum we're hoping maybe Square will be nice and release FFVI the following year. And then if they were to follow that up with a Chrono Trigger release/remake the year after that it would be enough for most jrpg fan's heads to explode.
Sadly, this is all wishful thinking. Except FFIV, that's releasing this July.

I just hope it's a little more like the SNES version than Final Fantasy IV Advance was. The added areas were cute, but overall the game felt like it was made easier for some reason--Magus Sisters, Bahamut, and Zeromus (among others) were all pretty much jokes.
