The Force Unleashed selling point #17: Play as Darth Vader!

In our long years of outrageously nerdy existence, we've never been able to truly emulate the lifestyle of Mr. Darth Vader, feared Lord of the Sith and champion emperor tosser. The costume's the easy part, but if all you have to do in your intimidating black cape is mull about the grocery store, it's clear that there's something missing from the experience. Like choking people from afar.

Incidentally, you'll be able to do that in September's Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. The game's opening moments see you taking control of Darth Vader and wreaking havoc, shortly before encountering your "secret apprentice." If that isn't enough to excite you, perhaps a long string of hip and happenin' youth buzzwords from project lead Haden Blackman will do: "[The Force Unleashed] means you have access to force powers that are amped up, over the top and in some cases, totally out of control."

Wait a minute... there are cases where force powers are, in fact, somewhat in control? So much for selling point #16.

As if this game needed another selling point. It will already sell a gizillion copies. What a nice surprise it would have been to fire up the game and start watching the opening cut scene with Vader and then all of a sudden getting to play as him. I know why they ruined it, but I don't think they had to.

well I managed not to be spoiled about Snape/Dumbledore or the ending for book 7 and I work in a bookstore where people are talking about books all the time. I have found that in order to be spoiled, I have to actively seek it out.

"See" or "sees" is not in reference to "game" in the sentence. It is in reference to "scenes."

Plurals do not sees.

Perhaps I should not have been so harsh, though...

Playing as Vader during tutorial level < Playing as Vader in some kind of hardcore end-game level.

I think it works better, actually, Star Wars Canon is something that licensees take very seriously, so you cannot have Vader undertaking some sort of great struggle in the 19-year period between III & IV

Something small is just about all that he could do without wrecking Canon

There was a Star Wars game that came out a few years ago that had the funnest light saber battles.... Jedi Knight????

was it the episode 3 game from 2005?
That game was a simple hack'n'slash, but they had some interesting lightsaber duels

Sweet but um I think that guy is going to be killed at the end of the game.

I'd assume so, unless he goes off to hide on a distant planet, never to be heard from again. Until a new series of books come out telling of his tales.

This is going to be a successful game no matter if it is good or not. But I am REALLY hoping that the gameplay combat and what not turns out to be awesome!

Furthermore, if you hit Left-Right-Left-Up-Down-Up-O-X*, you can make Darth Vader throw his head back and howl: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Now that's what I call unleashing!

Saying "Mr. Darth Vader" is about the same as saying "Mr. General Patraeus". The Mr. makes absolutely no sense.

But who cares, I can play as Mr. Vader! :D

Is is me, or is George Lucas intent is to tarnish the original reputation of Darth Vader killing all the jedi?

The Jedi Knight Games had the use of force powers also all be it I am sure that I could not roll an AT-AT into a ball so it should be interesting to see how force powers work in The Force Unleashed. There was also some slight force power usage in a SNES series of Star Wars games but nothing like Jedi Knight.
